ANGELINA JORDAN now 16 years old - Signed with Republic Records only 14 years old. Her first album is at work with Republic Records for release. Born and raised in Oslo, Norway; this world-renowned singer has earned fantastic reviews for the amazing breadth, depth and maturity of her vocal talent that simply belies her young age. She started singing when she was only 1 1/2 years old!!!!
Angelina’s videos have received over 1 billion views on CZcams and almost 2,5 billion views on Facebook. Amazingly, her passion for music began at just one-and- a-half years of age when Angelina first saw Whitney Houston on CZcams performing I Will Always Love You. Whitney - and later Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington - became her first major musical influences.
At the age of seven, Angelina auditioned for Norway’s Got Talent performing Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She won the competition with the show drawing record TV audiences.
Not surprisingly, throughout her rising career, Angelina has featured in prominent media outlets including TIME, CNN, BBC, and People while also performing on the U.S. network TV shows Little Big Shots and The View.

As well as singing before Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, charitable causes to which Angelina has given her talent include the Rainforest Alliance at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and Ein Herz fĂŒr Kinder in Berlin where she helped raise over 21 Million Euros for children and families in need.
This multi-talented singing prodigy has also written a successful, illustrated children’s book in her native Norway making Angelina the youngest published author in the country’s history.
Based on the true story of when she was six years old, Angelina met a homeless, shoeless girl. After they talked for a long time, she gave the girl her shoes and vowed never to appear on stage again wearing shoes until all the world’s children had them. Since that time, Angelina has always performed barefoot in public.
The reason they still take it fairly slowly is that she is only 16 years old - This in agreement with Republic Record, the family, and Angelina herself. She is now working on her record. Angelina has already sung in many countries, and all important people in the music industry know who she is. They only need to press the button when the time is right for the next step. No point in "burning out" a 16 year old jewel of a singer and I think many people forget how young she really is since she is so mature for her age!
Angelina’s videos have received over 1 billion views on CZcams and almost 2,5 billion on facebook.

I hope you listened to more Angelina on your own, because if you only listened to two songs in 11 months, then you are really missing out. ‘I Put a Spell on You’ at age 9 is a masterful arrangement (by her) and performance. It pays tribute to the composer/original performer in both the way he wrote it (a love song) and how he was forced to perform it by the record label (very theatrical).

This rendition is a masterpiece, the gold standard I would say - I prefer it even over the Nancy Sinatra version. No one can copy Angelina's voice in this, her voice is innocent, smooth, and at the same time mature. I am still speechless when I hear it, I simply cannot understand how she is able to pull this off. Pure genius, unprecedented.

    "She interrupts herself". Excellent observation.
Angelina is simply an amazing interpreter of music. As you say, many of her techniques are too complex to be taught, or even thought of during the performance, they must simply be natural things which happen TO her while she sings. She somehow, at 8, has an unerring instinct for whats right at each moment.

@@morticias5043 I think that is definitely happening with her. She was absorbing, loving and singing jazz since she was a baby. She is able to mimic what she has heard with a phenomenal degree of accuracy and nuance, like an impressionist doing voices. But she does much more than that, even at this age she is also interpreting the songs and adding her own flavor, as if she can store the performance in her mind, reproduce it with her voice, then improve on it. She can manufacture an ideal version of any song. Bang Bang has so much tonal idiosyncrasy and odd pacing, yet she totally nails it. Yet again, the best version of a timeless song.

I really enjoyed your insights on this one. You pointed out some of the things that really set her apart from others (like her incredible sense of timing). I especially liked how closely you listened to the details. The way you replayed that one part ("church bells") several times to fully appreciate it... She will give you so many of those moments in any song she sings. She is able to pack in so many of those little details, and she sometimes does it so subtly that you barely even hear it... but you still feel it. As you go through more of her stuff, you will find that she creates these special little "church bells" type moments again and again... and in so many different ways.

Hi H, you seem to be keen on the subtleties of AJ's performance and that is what is valuables to AJ's fans. I think we're safe to say that AJ is a prodigal genius and she does it mostly without thought - or maybe it is better said that she seems to be making a lot of unique sounds on the fly. She does what she does because, to her, it just seems like the right thing to do. As one of the judges said during her audition song (Gloomy Sunday), "Don't think, just sing". That judge was quite astute to know that what this child was doing, for the most part, was not a song that had been tirelessly practiced but rather, she permitted the song to flow through her. I think for Angelina, a part of her wonders what all the fuss is about - she is just doing what is easy and fun. If I may, I will give you a personal example. My company had a softball team and during one game a player got hurt. The manager ask me to go in and play 3rd base (all the players cringed because I was already where I should be - on the bench). The first batter hit a hard shot along the 3rd base line. Instinctively I nabbed the ball, planted my foot, and threw a perfect ball to the 1st baseman. My teammates and the crowd went crazy but I wasn't sure why. It was so easy and natural. However, the next inning, the batter hit a slow roller towards 3rd base and I ran and scooped it up, planted my foot, and then threw the ball into the parking lot (it actually hit an older lady as she was getting into her car). Musically, Angelina never throws a ball into the parking lot.

Hvala vam, Hrvoje (English pronunciation, HER-voe-yay?). Great reaction. Like you, my first exposure to Angelina Jordan was her Bohemian Rhapsody performance on AGT. That performance hit me in the face like a sledge hammer. This performance of Bang, Bang snuck up on me from behind and then tied me up in a 1000 knots. It's just a great rendition. Yes, it's patterned heavily after the Nancy Sinatra cover. But, there are significant difference, both subtle and unsubtle, that make Angelina's performance stand out. They both have the same backing guitar part and seem to be at the same tempo. Both singers very the timing, speeding up and slowing down the lyrics, as you pointed out in this video. However, Nancy can sound a bit rushed at times and occasionally lose that flowing legato that Angelina never drops, no matter how Angelina plays with her phrasing. Those two big glissandos in the third verse, "people sa-ang" and "church bells ra-ang" are solely an Angelina invention. The constant lagato and those big slides make the piece even more melancholy than previous versions. And of course, no need to repeat the many, many subtleties that you pointed out, which added to my knowledge and appreciation of this piece. Here is a link to Nancy Sinatra's performance, which may be of interest to other viewers,

Very nice reaction/analysis and comments H. If you decide to do more from Angelina you shall soon realize that not only is she super gifted vocalist but also a music genius since this very young age. Her winning song "Summertime" is absolutely mind blowing. Also her A Cappella version on this show of Billy Holiday, "I'm a Fool to Want you" will mesmerize you. Thank you for sharing and supporting Angelina on your channel, BTW, please show support for this young artist by including the Link to her Original from her YT channel. Thanks.

When I first heard Angelinas version, I went back and listened to Nancy Sinatra, and I’m sorry to say, Sinatra’s version is flat, unemotional, and bland compared to the 8 year old Angelina. Angelinas version is more soulful and emotional, with layered vocals that Nancy just didn’t have.

I've found you can say the same thing about a great many of her covers. And it really doesn't matter how legendary the original singer is (in case there's anyone out there saying, "Well, yeah, _Nancy Sinatra_
!"). The one that shocked me the most, I think, was Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing". Her original studio vocal (in the official music video) sounds almost _robotic_ compared to Angelina's _much_ more interesting vocal arrangement (posted at 13). Even many of the belted high notes don't sound as strong and "assured" as AJ's (IMO). It's crazy

She has one of the most beautiful Humming voices I've ever heard...
If you want similar performances from her continue with her earliest performances, because later she started to experiment more with various type of stuff, I guess to train her voice too...
I would recommend "Summertime" from the Finals of the same competition, and than "What a Difference a day makes" - the version where she is performing outside on a small concert with big flowers in her hair

@H: Marvelous comments & analysis. Notice how Angelina looks over at her guitarist near the end to (I believe) cue him for the plan for his notes to match her sung words and thus enhance them. Also how well she articulates every word clearly (and not even in her native language).

The Los Angeles-based 14-year-old singer and songwriter amplified her voice around the globe, racking up over half-a-billion CZcams views, just shy of 2 billion Facebook views, and praise from Time, CNN, The BBC, and People.
ANGELINA JORDAN and all her fans, so we can share her music and her many gifts ♄ - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She began singing at the age of one and a half . At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube ...
Angelina Jordan (born Angelina Jordan Astar; 10 January 2006) is a Norwegian singer whose audition for the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent, singing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of Billie Holiday, became a viral video online and brought her worldwide press coverage at the age of 8. She went on to win the competition with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime".

At that age its not possible to have learned that level of control. Vocal fry, intonation, vibrato, berth control, pitch and timber used to such great effect at that age is not learned its natural and she Is better than 99% of any of her "contemporaries". She is setting the bar of excellence back where it should be, and I adore her for it.

Love the reaction! Well done. I really enjoyed how you pick up on those subtle nuances that Angelina does, I believe, out of instinct. This is what makes her a true artist. Did you notice the end of the song? Angelina looks over at the guitarist to make sure they were together and how the notes played on the guitar followed her down. Just magic!
The thing that always gives me a little chuckle in this one is the first line of the song. "I was five and he was six." Thinking about her singing this melancholy retrospective, I want to say, "It's only been three years, sweetie!"
