Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya, (Tamil: முருகன்) is the Tamil god of war and victory. Murugan is the main god worshipped in Tamil Nadu, South India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and many other places where Tamilans live. He is a god with six faces. Murugan has six shrines in Tamil Nadu, which are known as Arupadaiveedu. In Tamil Nadu, Murugan has continued to be popular with all classes of society since the Sangam age.
Murugan is the son of Shiva and Parvathi, who was created to kill the Asuras and be the eternal protector of the Devas and other living beings. The Asuras were demigods who frequently warred against the Devas or gods out of jealousy because the Asuras were denied sensual pleasure. The six sites in Tamil Nadu where Murugan sojourned while leading his armies against the Asuras are Palani, Swamimalai, Thiruparamkundram, Pazhamudirsolai, Thiruthani and Thiruchendur, the Arupadaiveedu.
Other names of Lord Muruga: Subramanya, Kumara, Muruga, Skanda, Velavan, Velloreavan, Saravana, Shadanana, Devasenapati, Shanmukha,karthikeya.
O.S. Arun, as he is more popularly called, is undoubtedly one of the most gifted Carnatic Musicians in the country. He is known for his sonorous voice that he wields with much confidence and musical personality which he employs in tandem with his superior stagemanship. O.S. Arun inherits the mantle of singing from his family where music has been a way of life. Arun started his music life under the guidance of his father, O.V.Subramaniam and later qualified Alankara Purana from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. O.S. Arun was conferred with numerous titles like Brahma Gana Samrat, Bhava Sangeetha Vasigara and Madhura Gana Sironmani. O.S. Arun’s music has combined grace of sound grammar and warmth feeling. He also has a wide repertoire of songs, which has earned him a keen following Rasikas.
