Has anyone ever checked Texas football's all-time scores? For a top program, they have a lot of embarrassing blowout losses. This is one at 46-3. But look at some of their losses to Oklahoma. There's a 66-3 loss to UCLA in 1997. There's a 47-6 loss to BYU in 1988. They also lost to Houston 66-15 that same year. 1989 sports a 50-7 loss to Baylor. It's not like the teams that they lose to in these games are necessarily outstanding teams (Oklahoma could be the exception). Just interesting to me...

Texas coaches depend on recruiting superior talent and they are very successful, player development and game planning is pretty much non-existent. The game was won by the Miami coaching staff. Texas failed to make in-game or half time adjustments. Texas believed they could use the strategy used against Houston to win. It was incorrect because Miami had the nation's best O-line. Zone coverage, nickel and dime should have been used. The receivers were running wild
Offensively, in two back sets, the counter, trap, blast and off tackle plays are the go to plays against an upfield rush like this. The shotgun also should have been used. The short and intermediate passes and the draw are the go to plays. All of this is to spread the defense out and take the sting out of an overaggressive upfield rush.
The tools were there for Texas to be competitive; perhaps even win. Sadly, they didn't know how to use them.
Yes, there was a talent differential. But, it wasn't as drastic as the game portrayed. The talent in coaching made the difference
