- Today is day #404 living in my camper van and it's an extraordinarily normal day. I thought I'd share what an average day looks like living in my 1989 GMC Vanguard Vandura.

Over the last year I've traveled solo in the camper van as well as with my partner and have driven it over 60,000km (37,500 miles) crossing parts of Canada and the United States. This 1989 GMC Vanguard Vandura named Bertha has been through it all! Sandy deserts to snowy mountains and she's held up quite well considering!
Over the last year the van has traveled through Alberta, British Columbia (and Vancouver Island), Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. This included a 100 day bucket-list road trip through the States, but the majority of my time was spent on Vancouver Island and lower mainland Vancouver and Squamish.
My biggest lesson I learned this year living in a van was that "happiness is only real when shared" which is a quote from Christopher McCandless. I loved solo for 7 months and that's why I wanted to get into vanlife in the first place. So explore and travel solo as I had always loved that in the past. But as time passed without communicating or seeing anyone I knew, my uring for solitude turned to wanting to share these incredible moments and places I am seeing. Leah moving into the van for 100 days brought new life into the van life for me and reinvigorated my passion for travel.
I learned and saw many beautiful things and places this year. But none more important than life is meant to be shared.
The river you took a dip in looked beautiful (but cold!) Have you thought about getting a cheap solar shower? I love ours-- hated dealing w/ grey + black tanks so we don't use our RV shower anymore, a solar shower took its place.
I subscribe to many Channels and watch hundreds of videos. This vid was the most authentic day in the life which inspires me even more. GREAT JOB !! Waiting for your next and need to binge watch from the beginning. Thank You from California !!!!
Get a simple shower and 3x2 liter pop bottles. That's 6 liters heat the water on a stove you use 1 to get wet lather up then 2 to rinse thoroughly. Cheap simple and works
Great idea! I actually have a hot water shower in the van, but I don't like to use it much as it uses so much of my fresh water. I like your idea for an off grid DIY project!
When you got to that dead end i'm thinking, oh that's going to be tough to turn around, at which point you said, "I guess this is home!". Haha, love your videos brother. I just bought a mini school bus yesterday! So stoked to start the adventure!!
All-in-all, I agree a good day enjoying life. You are a natural story teller. I'm listening.
Loved this “day in the life” video! Keep sharing your adventures! Love them 👍🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼😬
I'm glad to hear that! Thank you for following along!
10:16 OK, Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets, that's a really nice meal :P

From Josh, to Ryan & your trip up to Alaska & back...what a trip... Just finished this vid....all the best in your travels...and, Yes, I've subscribed....Happy Trails...Best from BC
I would love to be parked next to that river for a few days. We used to have a friend that had a cabin in Canada and he used to let us use it for a couple of weeks every year. I remember that he had pine tar soap for us to use when we bathed in the lake so we wouldn't pollute it. Have you ever tried that?
Thanks for sharing your 'day in the life.' The scenery looks amazing!
Thank you for this as it's a great reminder that I'm on the right path!
Cool camping spot(s), nice view and the sound of the river is relaxing! Can't wait to do my own camper van thing in the future!
2:11 believes/buys/eats grapefruit as an appetite suppressant; 7:30 eats processed wheat/carb that spikes insulin & blood glucose. Just start fasting til you get to OMAD (1meal/day), frees up time, effort, money and health
Great Video. Greetings from Berlin in Germany
Good video! Nice to see Bertha running well. I'm glad you didn't risk the danger alone for the hike.
Thanks Shine bright! I'm glad she is doing well too:)
That's a great life to be living. 💚
I’m actually getting ready to start my whole journey on the road and going to film my whole experience! I’ve been wanting to do this for the longest time and it’s finally happening. I’ve been watching your videos and it just keeps reminding me on why I want to live that type of lifestyle and how much fun it’s going to be! I also have a question on the WiFi part? What service are you using so you can use your hotspot unlimited. I’m really going to need a network connection for me to upload and also run my online business!
Look up a group on FB called Skoolie nation. Join that, then search the archives. This topic has been covered there in great detail.
Hi Johnny, thank you for your question. I've had a number of people ask this question in the past and am thinking of doing a Q&A video answering this question in the detail it needs. The answer depends on where you live. It's much easier in the States than here in Canada. Which country do you live in?
@@lfilson Great recommendation Ifilson
lfilson thank you so much

good~
Great video, and nice to see what the weather looks like this time of year as my wife and l were thinking of driving to Vancouver island, but worried about all the snow we keep seeing in Calgary. I like your rv and know not having a fridge is hard, my first thought is a DC chest cooler. We had our 3way fridge fridge refurbished with a lifetime warranty in New Bruinswick. Looking forward to more videos on your travels to Vancouver, l curious were you can park in the city and what route you take? Safe travels 👍🇨🇦
I really need to know your 2 screen laptop setup. More details please?
Nice🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
You're giving millennials a good name 🚌
how are you finding these places, trails, roads ect.
I actually made a video just about your question! Here you go: czcams.com/video/J4cUCCc_ats/video.html
Like your video though, good luck with it.
Thank you Karen!
I want a van so bad to have some freedom! I'm tired of living in other's houses. I can't afford my own place at the moment. I have seriously thought about living out of my 2008 Chevy Cobalt coupe. It's just too small, although it would make a van feel massive if I lived in the car until I could afford the van.
Awesome video! Question: do you ever get lonely?
Ive looked at a few of your videos while researching (I'm saving for a camp van) what ive learned thus far, is to have cash stashed, and if you gotta buy older pay cash so your monthly money goes towards repairs not the actual van,
Yes, motor home is car and house, so much can break down on the car side, but then there is also the house side and it's expensive unless you can fix it yourself.
New sub here
👍👍👍
Thanks for the thumbs up!
How do you get service way out in the boonies? We camp alot in the Mt St Helens and Mt Adams area and cant get any service. Which most of the time is ok😀...Nice video btw
There are definitely spots where I don't have service in the mountains. I just try to stay within service if I know I'm going to need it for work. A cell booster can help extend the range though.
What is your unlimited plan and with whom? Wow
How do you choice where to park for the night?
Wow, could you link that guitarist!
Will you ever convert a sprinter van ?
That's what I was originally planning on doing before getting this van. But it is still on my mind and would love to one day!
This vanlifer/filmmaker lifestyle is exactly what I'm aiming for. I thought the idea of traveling to the locations where I'm hired and using the van (or trailer... maybe) as a home base wasn't really feasible, but seeing you doing it gives me a bit more confidence to try it out myself.
Nice to see someone living life to the fullest. And your not that cool, that was funny.
Now what did that tree do to you, go back and say sorry
i think you need a hobby bisides netflix?
all those fake wake ups :)
You’re cute 🤤
So, you're saying there is no such thing as dinosaurs now. Huh ! Sounds like you're the one who is 8 years old to me. Where do you think they developed from to begin with. You're blind when it comes to evolutional possibilities. Let alone your own evolution, bud.
How do you choice where to park for the night?
