Brave is a sword song. Writing it made me feel armed to face my lesser self. Because becoming a better version of myself requires taking account of the painful missteps along the way and fighting the anguish of facing them. And to ultimately (and hopefully) come out better than who I was before. Taller and stronger. This is the highest achievement a human being can hope for, everything else is secondary.

This song feels so intimate, as though the audience is peering inside such a vulnerable time in his life. This is what music is all about and for Ruston to capture those emotions, you are singing what's in so many hearts, so many stories now told. This song sings to me, absolutely beautiful.

I wish I could tell you that he did this one, but I WAS at an all-inclusive resort and alcohol WAS free, so...

I was so grateful to learn this was being released to the world so everyone could benefit from it like I have. Over the last year and a half, everyone has called me brave for blowing the whistle and telling the truth when I felt anything but. I kept telling everyone I wasn't brave because I didn't have a choice, not if I wanted things to change, not if I wanted my experience never to happen to anyone else, not if I wanted to live with myself, until my brother said "Just because it feels absolutely necessary doesn't mean it's not also courageous." This song appeared on CZcams around that time (thanks, Mike Capo), and, being a hardcore RK fan, I found it. It became what I listened to when I had nothing left to fight with and allowed me to find that last bit. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this song and the video. Thank you.
