I knew you would do a good job with the repair. Don't be so disappointed Captain Blaz. I looks pretty clear that the bumpy runway and the lack of suspension on the bird is what lead to the crash. All it takes is a little bump in the runway to send the bird in a different trajectory as you trying to get airborne. It doesn't give you much time to correct it when the bird is only a few feet off the ground. Thank you for showing the repair work and I salute you for not giving up after the second crash. I also salute your wondering guest smoker for taking a phone call while you guys are filming a video hahaha.

Like others have said right and down trust 2 degrees will help on take off. Also lower prop pitch fly not so fast and helps on landing. For landing mix in down elevator about 5% that should help with the balloon when flap are down. Get back on the horse as they say. Salute

I learned a lot about my quarter scale cub with AXI electric powere which embarrasses me with dreadful torque rolls to the left. It brings me down thinking how bad I am while still flying other planes very easily. Thank you all for giving me something to try: side and downthrust to start with, then gentler power application, longer takeoff roll, and even a gyro to catch things quicker. It should be simple but it isn't. But we have to remember that this is a very, very old design and our aircraft have developed considerably. Even Ugly Stiks, which I love, are fifty years old, but absolutely vice-free, so going back in time to underpowered floating planes is a big of an upheaval - it should be easier but isn't. Thanks for making this, its helped me.

Captain Blaz, well done for handling a very difficult situation - a broken aircraft that doesn't want to fly nicely. We all know that, without the pressure of unedited filming, you would have given up after the take off went wrong. I have been in the situation of trying a land an aircraft where something is wrong (for me, it was a 3D plane with massive throws in a strong wind and I had forgotten to program any expo!). I also managed to land after a few attempts but I know only too well that hand shaking feeling. Have a few beers tonight and show us the Pitts tomorrow!

Because of the high lift /high mounted wing, you need to set up aileron differential. this means that you should have more up than down movement when the ailerons are deflected fully. The best way to achieve this, is to set the control horns OFF of the normal 90 degree angle to the control surface. This will give you more control surface deflection in one direction than the other.
What in fact is happening, is that the aileron moving down creats more lift. while the one moving up, less lift. this is what is causing the tip stall. my son has an old 2 mtr DB J3 with this set up and it has never been prone to one wing stalling before the other. Hope this helps? P.S. absolutely LOVE watching your videos. DONT STOP. Best Regards Adrian (Winco) Horn.

    Capt.Blas,
    That was very interesting.
    Here are some ideas.
This plane has a dihedral high-aspect, flat-bottom wing and a short-coupled fuse. You can expect some quirks.
First of all, you can expect a lot of adverse yaw (see @16:20), so you will need a lot of rudder with the ailerons.
Also, it will be very squirrely on the ground. Better wheels with some toe-in and positive camber should help.
That high-aspect, flat-bottom wing will have a lot of lift and also ground effect.
It was coming in hot without flaps, but it wouldn't come down with flaps.
You might try checking the wing loading. Light is good, but If it is too light it will be hard to fly.
I would like to see you fly this plan again before you convert it.
You got it up and down twice so far. I bet you can do it again. ; - )

a lot of Cubs and super Cubs on the market have zero right thrust built into the firewall that is the problem you are experiencing. Add two washers behind both left side firewall bolts. insert the washers between firewall and electric motor mount, this will give you right thrust. Optimum is 1 1/2 degrees right thrust.. add two washers on each left side motor mount bolt. the plane will fly much much better!!

Captain Blaz, so good to see you get back on the horse and ride it.
As I said before the P effect is strong with this one captain, and as some have suggested about 3 to 5 deg right thrust will help with this, just try with some washers under the left hand side of the motor mount. Watch the right rudder on take off.
With the tip stalling, you can deal with that by lifting the aelerons up a bit, say 2 to 3 degrees each, quick and easy fix.
I can understand your feelings for the flight as you always try to do your best, but don't let it beat you, you never let a glow motor get the better of you! The viewers want to see you succeed, as do I, and it will be a good learning experience for us all.
Good to see such lovely spring flying weather over there, greetings from NZ where conditions too are great for flying.

    • @vumba1331
      @vumba1331 Před 5 lety

Fair enough, a nice large dia slower turning prop on a 4 stroke will have less of a P effect on take off, it will also sound better. However the tip stalling may still be a challenge.
We look forward to seeing it in its glow reincarnation.

this plane likes a lot of rudder on take off roll.... i was flying mine on 4S 5000 mag lipo with power 45 motor, at first I never used a lot of rudder and my plane was always trying to tip stall left wing, rudder input will fix this momentum and when you have it climbing straight full power... once you get it done for the first time you will love this airplane

But what’s thiiis hey!!? The confident Capt Blaz is starting to loose it 😄😉. But we know, It’s not easy to fly a beginner plane in wind free conditions hey!! 🤣😉😉
We still love you Capt Blaz 💙

You can make this fly well! Fix the wing trailing edges with epoxy and glass fibre cloth over it. Reinforce the front support with carbon rod and epoxy. Put some (more) side thrust to the right in the engine and mix LOTS of down elevator with flaps. These things balloon like crazy with flaps and no elevator compensation, so much that they can stall when you select flaps It’s too beautiful to put away! 👍

I have a Hanger 9 J3 Cub 40 electric with an E-Flight Power 46 670 KV. I fly it with a XOAR 14x6 and 5800mah 4 cell with plenty of power. Light aerobatics and lots of flying time if I just putter. It's flying weight is about 3300 grams and wingspan the same as yours. It gives 3000 grams thrust at 50 amps full charge. I fly the VESS 14x6 on a 5 cell 4400 - 5000mah and it gives crazy power and strong aerobatics. Both setups give 25 minutes flight time if I just putter slow flying. Your 600KV just be really nice with a 5 cell and any 14x6 prop. BTW, don't use mixing. Give right rudder at take off. You're big boys now. Any landing you walk away from is a good one. Glad you put it down safe. Good job.

You're flying like an expecting father...lol. Good job coming back and getting a good flight....The key is to ease the Power on takeoff so you dont get torque steer...But You made a Great Flight anyway...

Seems tail-happy, and I'm with RedWASPfpv on that right/down thrust check. Check that CG and check that thrust. Also check tail-to-wing incidence. The real J3s and SuperCubs had an adjustment on the tail to allow a trim for nose attitude in flight.
