Well, if there's one thing we learn from the old Greek myths, it's that no matter what you do, all prophesies will inevitably come true. Maybe Coeus knew this and just...took the path of least resistance.

@Max Payne Nonsense. Greek Gods have NOTHING to do with Covenant Myth and are OLDER than Covenant/Angel myths. Stop trying to make other myths/religions fit and lesser than your religion. It's sad. And pathetic.

@Max Payne Not angry. Just calling what you are saying BS. Because it is BS. Again Greek Gods are not Fallen Angels. This doesn't even fit within what the Covenant myths SAYS about Fallen Angels. It's just STUPID to say and believe this. Satans are ANGELS. They work for GOD. Their job is to TEST THE FAITH of people(important people). Poseidon is not a Satan. Satans have NOTHING TO DO WITH Greek Myth(or any other myths). Nor does your myths have anything to do with Greek Myths. Just stupid. Just so vastly stupid. LOL
And "Paganism" doesn't "come" from anything. Paganism just means religions not of the Covenant faiths(Judaism, Christianity, Islam). It doesn't mean how you are trying to use it. Again just stupid.
Your BS position makes no sense. But sure keep believing that a God that only had dominion(and known of) in a very small country that kept being conquered, created and everything and all Gods. That makes so much sense. - sarcasm. Since the beginning of your religion, only those in that small country believed in it, until it was spread by ROME after they again conquered the land while believing in those same Greek Gods. LOL.

If Coeus was the pillar of the world, as in the Earth's axis, or the axis of the Earth around the Sun (vice versa to the Ancients), then that would imply that he was a Titan of cosmic order. But yet again, like with Oceanus and Hyperion, with the advent of the age in which the Olympians were being worshiped not many Greeks would have probably wanted to worship a glorified support beam.

@@Lu11abi I don't necessarily agree that poets and philosophers of those days were one and the same. The point I was trying to make was that, as their society advanced further into the Classical and later Hellenistic periods, the Greek authors of myths saw a transition from the abstract deities towards more human characters of gods. The Titans were natural forces of nature while the Olympians were wielding the natural forces. Think of it as the same as how the Greeks saw humanity as being the handlers of the earth, fully allowed to tame and manipulate it.

      Then Google "World Bearing Animals".
Lots to research and connect dots.
Also the Andalusia (southern region of the country of Spain) symbol is Hercules between 2 pillars and behind 2 lions. Might the lions be a representation of him freeing two titans ?

So why does anyone.. mortal or Immortal.. fight?, might be the better question.
We fight For something in which we believe.
    Perhaps sometimes that is unwise..
I have fought for an independence since my youth, and yet, I remain utterly Dependent upon the Grace of Almighty G0D.. and rightly so. If I am held captive to my own egoism, I can never understand the Greater Purposes for my own fragile self. If I strike out at Death while failing to see the necessity of it for my flesh within my youth, shall I not curse the failure of its bloom in my weakened condition as an old woman? Shall I resent the very vessel that has borne me hence? Shall I Rail against Time Itself and speak ill of my progenitors? Or shall I age gracefully, recognizing my strength is not found in my Vigor, but within the Wisdom found within the experiences of this living?
So many questions I can't even answer for myself.. how shall I speculate upon the thoughts and intentions of the gods who are, it seems, no more capable than I, to Rule over my own Destiny?
And that, will be my own question for those who have gone before me, in this life, at some point, I suppose, until ultimately, I stand before the King of Glory who Establishes the Times and Seasons for us all.
Blessings and many thanks for this series, dear soul!
Your boundless enthusiasm for our ancient histories is delightful!
    Much Love.

So, to answer your question (if He was prophetic, why did He fight Zeus), if the Titans are philosophical concepts, than Coeus may represent something like "Truth"--he is Pillar of the North, Axis of the Cosmos. He is the Cynosure, the unyeilding point around which the entire cosmos revolved. The North Star, for us.
And Zeus is the Bringer of Order to the half-assed universe Ouranos and Chronos left Him, right?
What He wants, He gets. Nothing can go against His word. He re-shapes reality.
So, the Titanomarchy is His big Re-Ordering of the universe.
When Ouranos slapped reality together, there was a certain "Truth" to it, and this was the form of Coeus. But when Zeus imposed a new paradigm, He fundamentally changed the "truth" of the Universe. This was Him confronting and defeating Coeus.
Why did He not see Zeus coming? Maybe he did, or maybe the universe can't predict the actions of the guy who can change the universe. Are there even any prophecies about Zeus? Is He out of "sight"? (but He does bow to the Fates...so...idk)
But why did he not JOIN Zeus? I have an answer for this, at least.
    He couldn't.
Zeus could not accept the universe that retained Coeus in his old form.
Even if he begged to side with Zeus, the big guy wouldn't....couldn't allow it.
To build the universe so well ordered and balanced that fragile little things like humans and flowers could exist in it, Coeus had to be altered, or "defeated".
But all this is based on my theory that Zeus represents the Ordering Force of our universe (among other things) and my work on nailing this down as "likely", or even Intended (by some poets and mythographers) is not very developed yet, so don't build a religion around this angle just yet, lol

I don't know why Coeus was not able to think of something to defeat Cerebus even though he is the Titan of intelligence. Heracles used only his brute strength to defeat the dog and he's only a demi-god.

RIGHT, so true, that's why it doesn't make any sense a.k.a the Greek and Roman mythology gods and goddesses don't add up. Because it's just a storyteller it not real. And people make up this. Although it is amazing story how we look at it. Because it is interesting it's a myths. But yeah I'd also agree how and why not a strong Titan like Coeus cant beat Cerberus but an Demi-god like Hercules can defeat Cerberus!?? It doesn't add up. It swem that the Titans loss some of their powers being in prison for to long!! Its a theory but this whole thing is just an Theory.

    • @herpderp5727
      @herpderp5727 Před 3 lety +3

Coeus is meant to stay in Tartarus forever. There is no scheme, bargain or trick that would help him escape because he is never meant to escape. As an inhabitant of the underworld, he is, unless RELEASED, forever trapped. Why doesn't he wrestle him when Heracles did so as a demigod? Probably because he is nowhere near the power of Heracles. Heracles (even when he was a demigod) is powerful enough to beat Hera, Apollo, Poseidon, Hades and Ares SIMULTANEUSLY. Ares (the weakest of the 5) was able to frighten the titans (unwittingly mind you) by fighting Athena. Cerberus was feared even by Hera (the most powerful of the 5 by A WIDE MARGIN). So Cerberus is way, way stronger than Coeus. And that's not even mentioning the Erinyes (who was able to subdue Coeus' more powerful brother Iapetus).
Contrary to what most believe. The Olympians (and anyone on their level of power like Caerus, Heracles, the Moirae Hades, Persephone) are far more powerful than their titan predecessor.
The only titan close in power to their olympian counterpart is Rhea (who is close in power to Hera).
