Prometheus is a proto-Christ relating to Matthias, a disciple or student, a mathematicus. The craftsman god, Iapetus the piercer, got carried on as Hephaestus and perhaps influenced Jupiter. Josephus Ben Matthias claimed to be a historian but passed on allegorical tradition, creating a mythic place for Israelites in cosmopolitan religious tradition. This paved the way for henotheism to replace polytheisms all the way to the Mideast.

I don’t think Prometheus was arrogant. He was truly one brave titan with his vast intelligence he knew on some level Zeus was gonna completely lose his mind over being defied and would be punished severely for his actions yet he still did it because of his desire to see humanity go forward. He probably on some level also hated the olympians which is why he was tight lipped about the mother of the future usurper in that he saw it as humanity’s destiny if you will to challenge and eventually surpass the gods

Its just a teaching story. Prometheus never existed.
What it teaches you is that humans have the same power that the Gods in the story have. Prometheus gave it to them. The fire in the story is not really about a flame in your fireplace. It is the "Ability To Create". Never take any of the Mythologies at face value. Don't discount them and think they are meaningless. The opposite is true. They are all fake stories that contain a very real and very true secret worth preserving and worth teaching.

Prometheus which caused humanity to be cursed was freed by Heracles, lifting the curse. According to the bible Jesus freed humanity from the curse of original sin. Both curses were caused by access to knowledge of the gods.
Heracles had a father as god, Jesus had a father as god.
Heracles had 12 labours, Jesus had 12 disciples.
Heracles died after torture and was taken up in the heaven to be with his father. Jesus died after torture and was taken up into the heaven to be with his father.

@@mizukage_josh9125 Yeah. The fallen angels were the polytheist gods like Zeus and Poseidon. Who regularly bred with mortal women creating offspring with superhuman powers.
Zeus and his family comes from Cronus, the angels from God. Which means the Christians/Jews see God as Cronus. And this Titan was likely inspired by a real king called Cronus from that area where the Canaanite (Jewish) religion began. So the Abrahamic religions are actually worshipping a human king.
"Byblos had the reputation of being the oldest city in the world, founded by Cronus. During the 3rd millennium BC, the first signs of a town can be observed, with the remains of well-built houses of uniform size. This was the period when the Canaanite civilization began to develop."
"When Hellenes encountered Phoenicians and, later, Hebrews, they identified the Semitic El, by interpretatio graeca, with Cronus. The association was recorded c. AD 100 by Philo of Byblos' Phoenician history, as reported in Eusebius' Præparatio Evangelica I.10.16"
"Philo's account, ascribed by Eusebius to the semi-legendary pre-Trojan War Phoenician historian Sanchuniathon, indicates that Cronus was originally a Canaanite ruler who founded Byblos and was subsequently deified. This version gives his alternate name as Elus or Ilus, and states that in the 32nd year of his reign, he emasculated, slew and deified his father Epigeius or Autochthon "whom they afterwards called Uranus". It further states that after ships were invented, Cronus, visiting the 'inhabitable world', bequeathed Attica to his own daughter Athena, and Egypt to Taautus the son of Misor and inventor of writing"

I'm so happy that you brought up Deucalion an Phyrra in this story and mentioned the parallels to Genesis. I had read that it might have been Poseidon who foretold mankind's extinction to Deucalion and it was he who told Deucalion to build the ship with which to hide in during the flood. I'm guessing that, as him being god of the terrestrial earth, Poseidon would have been very bummed-out if there were no humans left to ride his horses and use his cattle to plow the fields in the future.

here's my personal interpretation of the first story:
I think Prometheus found himself likened to the existence of humans, who, having been an afterthought after animals, from the god Epimetheus, is similar to how Prometheus's tactics were always an afterthought to pure strength.
I think Prometheus found himself wanting to live through man, to see how man would triumph over such struggles, or to experience their power over the earth. He gave humans many gifts, in order for their situations to be likened to his own.
I think Prometheus was able to endure his punishment because, even though chained, a piece of him was free in the eagle, free to soar like no other being of his kind.
Even though his liver was being consumed, that physical piece of him will stay with the eagle, for as long as it lives. He was able to experience the freedom of an eagle, through his liver in its stomach.
However, doing so would eventually lead to the eagle itself acting like the chains on his person, now consuming not only flesh, but his person as well. Only being unchained once the eagle was destroyed.
I think that Zeus's punishment was to teach that even though Prometheus can live through humans, his true person will be chained down and consumed, as if chained to a mountain, with a hungry eagle nearby.
Through this perspective, it teaches us that we can live through others all we want, but it will eventually lead to us being chained by our ambitions, and killing the relationship with the person we pushed our ambitions onto.

He recognizes to switch sides when he recognizes Zeus will win. However, he needs a plan B for defeating Zeus. In his wisdom, he recognizes Zeus goes the way Zeus's father does. Prometheus's work to form and keep humanity alive is to ensure they reach their destiny to overthrow Zeus with his help. Zeus knew Prometheus crossed sides to help him win. He knows Prometheus is capable of doing it again. Prometheus is the story of the Kingmaker.

Prometheus is the hero of humanity. I think the 'fire' he gave is a metaphor for consciousness, which is why Zeus was opposed to it.

  • @uniqueglow9541
    @uniqueglow9541 Před rokem +1

Some notes and remarks are in order. In Antiquity Prometheus was not at all viewed as a "rebel against injustice" or anything of that sort. He was not regarded as very wise or "righteous".
The story of Prometheus has been misinterpreted and modified in the last two centuries, especially by romantic writers who made Prometheus look like a hero or benefactor.
In short, for many centuries since Antiquity and beyond, Prometheus has been viewed by poets, authors and writers as a lowly, jealous trickster who did not help or benefit anybody by his actions. He stole fire by hubris and envy, hid it or misused it without helping anyone, and he was justly held accountable and punished. Then when the time was right he was justly released by Hercules/Herakles under the instructions or with the permission of Zeus.
Zeus was in Antiquity called among other things the lord of justice, the protector of strangers, and the keeper of oaths. People plausibly thought in Antiquity that when Zeus punished Prometheus it was justice, and when Zeus released him it was also justice.

It is the hubris of the ego. How forethought never goes as planned. And solo relying of just thinking ahead doesn't work. Epimethius or hindsight is needed as well for it to equate to us gaining wisdom.
So we can end up with our egos plucking at our forethinking and it torment us. Pandora is imagination equated with tiamat and chaos and opening imagination is letting the door out to all monsters of possibilities. The box being our subconscious which holds fears and insecurities among other things. So it makes sense they used promethus as being kinda arrogant in thinking amd not actually being open to things not going his way as he is extremely methodical and logical. Lacking hindsight he probaly cant cinceptualize empathy yet. He doesn't think back on his actions in this sense he just plans and enacts those plans. Jealousy arises when we think about future amd being not where we plan for it to be. It is the start of thinking but not the whole, it is just a part and like all parts has its flaws. This can be how it is seen as a trickster to us when we solely focus on just the future and how our plans can and usually will deceive us when we actually enact them. I think it all speaks towards this psychological aspect of it and understanding the mind.

Another version or explanation of the story of the theft of fire is that Zeus intended to take away (a more advanced way to make and use) fire from humans temporarily, for a few months during the hot season, and humans already knew rudimentary ways to make fire. But Prometheus didn't want to wait. He tried to hurt Zeus and make him look bad, he didn't really care about helping or benefiting anyone. He stole fire from Zeus by hubris and envy, he hid it or misused it, and he was consequently rightfully punished for it.
