    I am impressed, Getting a factory representative on your jobsite to make sure you know what your doing is fantastic! The MST system is unbeatable in my mind. Tho I think he was the winner with the amazing weather the view was Impeccable, a win all the way around Matt, Keep up the good work Sir.

    In the condominium collapse in Florida engineers discussed how important it is that the rebar is close to the surface on the beams. Apparently some of the rebar was to deep in the beams of the collapsed condominium. Also interestingly to many rebars in the beam makes it weaker.

      I seen that video. The rebar was too close to one another, not allowing the aggregate to pass through the rebar, and creating pockets of air (cavitation).

      Lack of maintenance was the practice at that building in Surfside, Florida. The board spent money on bling they could see, ignored the rest. Horrible weathering on everything on the roof. Witnessed it personally

    The better information people can get on new products the better they can understand it. MST bar is new people are old school and don't like change but once you realize its the same thing there no point not to try it. Covid made fiberglass rebar use in my area go up because it was stronger and way cheaper then steel and then crews that used fiberglass rebar are still using it today because they found it is just as good and easier to use.

    Great video Matt. The placement of rebar in a ICF concrete wall build is like the difference of having a bomb shelter to a stick frame build in a tornado.

    This comment is late in coming because I am late in watching (so much going on in the political realm, I’ve been distracted). Things are calming down a bit and I’m happy to be getting back to my happy place(s). Great video!!
    Between you and the captain (Kleeman), I get my regular doses of great variety in content but without the typical noise often associated with parsing through gobs of input (and w/ you, it’s all on one channel w/ data from trusted sources). Videos like this one are invaluable to those considering the use of different products/methods on future projects. Although I don’t have one in my line of sight future, one never knows. I found the data here to be interesting and highly loaded with value. My opinion: I watch a lot of channels where ICF and MST are becoming more and more utilized…your data is spot-on accurate (again, my opinion). Good on you sir!!

    5:35 The only downside to the MST bar is you can't bend it on site. Well, you would have to be a time traveler to "ensure" you have the custom bent rebar for those unexpected or unique shaped situations (the lighthouse/castle is full of those situations). At least you can use steel rebar for those situations instead of shutting down the job to order custom MST bar. Even though we saw the video where Matt toured the manufacturing plant, it still blows my mind the differences and positives of MST bar over steel. MST bar is a game changer!

    • @nyamillennial
      @nyamillennial  Před 3 měsíci +1

      If a person has a print MST will pre bend all shapes needed. But yes if on site it is more difficult. But be mindful you can still use straight piece to make a corner with one extra off fall piece to make a triangle.

    Thanks Matt for having Marty there to explain and confirm what you have discussed with us earlier.... ok questions...
    1 Is MST products available in Australia?
    2 Can the MST bar system be used in a 'normal' slab?
    3 If the system can be used as above, would it need to be tied with say cable ties (zip ties in your country) or can you use the normal wire twisters?

    Hi guys,
    Great stuff. MST bar looks like a great smart product.
    I have two questions. Is there any down side to using a thicker mst bar in your pour?
    Since the density between steel and mst bar at a 4:1 ratio. Does that make the wall any less strong since there isn’t the same weight within the wall?
    Can’t wait until you all have your get together to answer all the questions.

    • @nyamillennial
      @nyamillennial  Před 10 měsíci

      Comes down to your engineered plan. But there is a chart for X sq/footage or smaller bam no engineering required. Rebar isn’t strong because of its weight. So less weight does not equal less strength.

  • @fredericrike5974
    @fredericrike5974 Před 11 měsíci +1

    One of the largest questions I have is about the expansion rates between Iron and this product. My second is if the plans are already complete, will I need to buy new pages to get my foundation inspected, etc? The "numbers game" on his product meets or exceeds the soft iron the plans are usually drawn for; is it a one to one replacement or is some other formula involved? Last but not least; how much is the cost in comparison with iron rebar? I'll take a pop corn break and let ya'll "do your thing"!

    Great video, saw the factory tour brilliant product. Even if it was dearer than the equivalent in steel the ongoing costs would more that make up for it, less in transportation and when on site you would save on equipmen, sundries and even manpower. And then when the structure come to the end of its life time, its easier to dispose of, meaning again less cost. 👍

    Are all Fiberglas rebar made the same? Do they all have the same strength, shearing and tension? Where can a person go to check out the comparison of these things? I really do think these rebar have their place in new construction, if the comparison is the same as steel. Old school guy, I have to convince myself before you can convince the homeowner! Fibreglass appears to have advantages I had not thought of !! And not springing back when moulded into different shapes will make rebar cages look the way do on the plans 😁

    So in the corners it stated its better to over lap bars and zip tie corners together to give you a stronger joint but you don't zip tie all other connections thru out the job.

    • @JteRaa
      @JteRaa Před 11 měsíci

      Zip ties only hold the bars in place during concrete pour.

    • @nyamillennial
      @nyamillennial  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Only reason to tie corner is to keep it from flying around. All other bar in the wall is either long enough or heavy enough or trapped by lock feature to not move

    I thought the advantage of steel rebar is the flexibility? Why is everyone only about tensile strength?
    Seems like a combo of TRT-formed, hot-dipped galvanized steel rebar plus these GFRP bars (or basalt!) might be great for residential projects, but I am purely speculating.

    It's a Canadian Product!
    It's designed for the harshest freeze/thaw cycles in North Americia! No worry about expansion or contraction of steel in the wall, especially in above ground applications.
    And you can use zip ties, no special ties, tool, or fumbling to connect your rebar.
    I won't say "idiot proof", but it's close! Lol
    The "idiots" have been stepping up their game....hense the warning sticker on my lawnmower "NOT to be used as a Hedge Trimmer"! Lol
