I guess like it has to be one of the first ever horror concepts, in a way. a copycat creature that can get past your defenses by looking like you... although Mimics are a little different in that most mimics don't really look like you. They'd look vaguely humanoid but unless they were one of the elder mimics, you'd be able to spot them. It does add an interesting twist to it and differentiates from the Alternate, I was concerned to start with that folks might deem it to be "copying" Mandela Catalogue, but it's very different!
it would have been better without the goofy ass ET looking face it showed in the video where the person was hiding

@@iamnotawellknownperson Okay, two things: one, I'm in a car far away from home, so eat it, and two, the Elder Mimic is a subspecies of the regular Mimics, so I just lumped them into the Mimic category.

Then a door knock appeared in the audio; I think that would be the Mimic trying to lure you in and confuse you
At first i thought those were gun shots outside my house
I absolutely LOVE that it’s not a normal mimic. That it literally has to kill to become more human but also if it kills and eats to much, it becomes something much more terrifying. It’s a brilliant idea to the mimic type creature in the horror genre.
It’s like the mimic sees no purpose in trying to blend in when there are so many potential targets, so it just improves its ability to kill instead.
It becomes an elder mimic if its diet is low, and grows human traits if its diet is high
@@Delicious_H2O they become elder if they eat too much
@@bigwheelfromspidamahn1037 if they eat a lot, but don’t have a consistent source, it will become Elder Mimic I think
@@Delicious_H2OI think it’s if there’s a steady supply, it becomes a more human mimic, but if there’s a massive over abundance, it becomes an elder mimic. It’s the same case with the 40M meat snake, it’s skin gets harder, and gets darker.
I never really thought about just how terrifying mimics are since most of the time they're represented as chests instead of people.

I nearly pissed myself.
I was scared of everything except the monoliths for some reason. I just imagine a bunch of giant creatures standing in a circle, T-posing and screaming at each other.
The creator has really done a job to educate himself so everything seemed really believable. This is remarkable.
The concept of the “mimic” is one of the creepiest of them all in the horror genre. Especially when done like how this video portrays their version or even with the Mandela Catalogue’s Alternates.
The mere thought of creatures who are in some way humanoid, whether they share almost all characteristics of the human shape and body or they are close to it, is the unsettling factor. I’d attribute it to that uncanny valley effect.
It’s a cool concept to think of creatures or beings that can take the mimic the form of humans. Equally as terrifying to think they will actively hunt down humans, either to feed, such as this video, or to replace, such as the Mandela Catalogue or even in Assimilate.
bro these mimics are insane they make alternates look like childs play
I think Gemini Home Entertainment did it best, the way mimics actually occur in that universe is just horrifying.
I barely see anyone in the comments talking about their mutant version, the hosts. Imagine, you simply came to your backyard to get some fresh air, and your body starts to feel funny. It hurts, you almost can't feel it. And then? Suddenly you're leaving your house, going inside the forest. Your body is being controlled by the host, but your mind is confused and scared, probably well aware of what is happening and that there is nothing you can do. After hours of walk, almost dying of exaustion, you see it. The Host, surrounded by past victims' bodies. You kneel to it, open your arms, exposing your organs in a "end my suffering" position. And not even caring to kill you first, it just opens your insides take whats edible for it and just restart the process. Your very last thoughts as you bleed on the forest ground is how you are clearly not the first to receive this curse, and most certainly not the last.
@@ldkWhatToWriteHere Now that right there, is genuinely terrifying at it's core!

It's tring to make more of them self's
My theory with the Prince story: The prince in the story is Vita Carnis, potentially an invasive species of extraterrestrial origins, dropped down from extraterrestrials, possibly predating the dinosaur ages. So long ago, scientists can't even tell if it's of earth or extraterrestrial. The critters are humans. They discovered Vita Carnis in its slumber state and most decided not to interfere with it. However, a select few (possibly scientists) decided to tinker with it and awoke it, blossoming into the Crawl. It indeed grants lots of magical benefits, such as food and natural abundance. However, it has yet to evolve (prince is still young) and its next stage of evolution can be more sinister and invasive than humans anticipate (prince stated that with the power of himself and his KINGDOM, he'll HEAL this land). Sounds like a "cleansing" is happening. And the Monoliths and the Singularity are waiting for the Goldilocks condition (when The Crawl's evolution is mature enough). And then it would be pure cataclysmic calamity. Just my theory.
The Famous theory is that the Singularity is the prince himself which is why in the story it mentioned like theres good or bad people around the prince and the monoliths is the good one which you can count in the picture theres 7 persons and theres 7 monoliths.while the bad is all the entities which evolving violent and violent due to what bad peoples have done
I think that singularity is the prince and that it has eaten so much it has become pitch black since the more a vita carnis eats the darker it gets
Fun Fact: 'Vita Carnis' is Latin for 'Life of the Flesh' which I think is a pretty fitting name here.
Edit: (for *ROUGH* translations of some of the Carni's names)
The Trimmings ("Ignavus Carnis" - Means "Cowardly Meat")
The Meat Snake ("Mutuari Carnis" - Means "To borrow meat")
The Mimic ("Trucidatum Carnis" - Means "Butchered Meat")
The Harvester ("Congregentur Carnis" - Means "Gather the meat")
The Host of Influence ("Imperium Carnis" - Means "Empire of the flesh")
The Monoliths ("Coelum Carnis" - Means "Meat Heaven")
The Singularity ("Verum Carnis[?]" - Means "True Meat")
Wow, I really didn't think much about the names but in the order that they're in seems like a list of phases or something like that.
Trimming means "Tickle my ba11s" in latin
Even the Latin names are well thought off and not just something to make it seem smart. Hats off to Darian
Kinda like name meanings to dinosaurs

@Cosmic Power Nah, it handles itself better than the others because it doesn't try to use cheap jump scares out of nowhere and not all the entities aren't some sort of god like being out to kill humans because it wants to. But except they're animals following instinct, nature, and their purpose. The Trimmings are actually kinda cute in an ugly sort of way. The creator even made a Trimming pet care guide. (Edit: the guide also explains the Mass of Trimmings at the satellite dish. Apparently they like the sounds of radio waves as well as human voices if you decide to keep a Trimming as a pet.)
I just realized, this could be related to the signals given off by the singularity

Analog Horror is terrifying but also insanely interesting
YES
The scientific take on it is what captivates me so well, and the horror is done right. Like the part where it said "The mimics diet is entirely comprised of human flesh" and the music just cut off made my hair stand
What I love about vita carnis is the detailed ecosystem. It isnt just ooo we hunt and eat humans, theres actually interactions with other organisms, Especially with the harvester sharing a symbiotic relationship with small animals.
Really love Ryan's reaction on this!
Well They Are Unique Shapes of Life. Out of All Species They Eat Nature Elements Except That One Species That's Bipedal (The Mimic) Who Eats Humans. Vita Carnis is The One with Detailed Ecosystem. Unlike The Mandela Catalogue. These Shapes of Life Actually Tries to Wipe Out Humanity. They Do Not Show Ecosystem. So The Alternates are Just Creatures from Hell

Local 58 has been around for about 5 years and I'd say that's one of the first things that did "analogue horror" specifically. before that there were similar creepypasta concepts but the actual presentation, local58 is the first that I remember. 15:40 when a cell splits off by mitosis, it is known the newly created duplicate fully replicates and copies the dna and nuclei, making the new copy a direct clone of the cell that has performed said mitosis
Asexual reproduction?
Ryan didn’t talk about this but I think people starting having Trimmings as pets to help alert them to danger, they mentions how they’re cowardly and squeal if threatened so a Trimming could be used as guard dog that would alert you to something not being right unless the Mimic and Trimming have some sort of bonded connection making the Trimming not realize the Mimic as a threat, but a family member.
Even if trimmings aren’t scared of mimics, I doubt a mimic would attack someone who owns a trimming. After all, it would mean they are likely up at night rather than asleep due to the trimming, and thus being a worse target.
@@bigboykenob2244 But mimics will still attack when you're awake.

The concept of most of these things, especially the elder mimic…really makes it scary. The fact of how these creatures realistically evolved as well is so scary.
The tension and anxiousness during that closet scene was absolutely pure spooky gold.
The monoliths appear somewhere in Nunavut, Canada.
Around Hudson’s bay if I remember correctly?
Also I really like how unlike most analogue horrors. If you see the “horror” then your not immediately screwed. They actually give you a chance and a strategy to survive. And it’s not just to ease your nerves. It actually seems genuine
I like this one because it’s the only one where the government is actually somewhat helpful with their advise, when they said not to use weapons to attack mimics I really thought they were going to tell you to just accept your fate and die, but they actually gave good advise to not die.
I think the reason they said not to shoot the mimic is that even though it damages them it doesn't kill them as hinted at in the mimic survival guide
This furthers my belief that mimics are like bears but more dangerous
@@Im_Local im telling you, 12g slug to the dome
@@Im_Local I think because the Mimics themselves aren’t fragile like us humans, regular small arms fire cannot take them out.
Remember: They are STILL flesh based organisms. So a Mimic is definitely not surviving being burnt alive, being blown up, or falling from a REALLY high height (Skyscraper for ex). They just are slightly more durable than us humans, not invincible.
@@someguy1011 That's what I really like about this. These creatures are talked about and treated in a way that feels realistic and reasonable. All but the last two, though durable, aren't just eldritch monsters unable to be stopped by humanity, but just other creatures with their own shortcomings and vulnerabilities. They're intimidating, but able to be overcome nonetheless.
@@Im_Local Nobody said mimics can't feel pain. If you shoot it you can run while it deals with the pain. If that doesn't work you can stun it. Nobody said you can't stun it. The best way would be to electrocute it. This could also kill the mimic. Maybe my first point is invalid, as mimics may not care about pain, or can tolerate pain really well. My plan would be to run or push it away.
Finally, this analog horror is getting more attention.

at 37:13 you can actually see the singularity in the bottom right corner before it's introduced: my theory is that this could be hinting at the singularity's ability to control the monoliths, as well as all the other carnis species.
the singularity can emit electromagnetic waves and "pattern-like signals", and according to the trimming care guide video, pet trimmings "enjoy" listening to radio static, which could potentially be the singularity's way of communicating with them (which could have eventually led to the giant group of trimmings taking over an abandoned satellite dish).
there is also a possibility that the singularity (like alternates from the mandela catelogue) can manipulate analog media. though their intentions are unclear, a lot of the carnis species' goals are something along the lines of "collect meat," which they might be using to build some kind of "meat kingdom" (flipping the script on the story of the prince and the woodland creatures). in the "cooking with crawl" video, the nutrire co. "flavor enhancer" seems to be Host spores, hence why the person cooking the crawl was wearing a full-body hazmat suit. in addition to that, in the most recent vita carnis video, the "flavor enhancer commercial," the demand for their product continues to escalate until people are quite nearly worshipping the flavor enhancer before the screen cuts to static (and another frame of the storybook).
but why are officials hiding information regarding the singularity? well, to quote wendigoon, another one of the youtube greats: "next time somebody tells you 'oh, the government wouldn't do that,' oh yes. yes they would." if corporations and CEOs are willing to endanger the lives of others for profit, who is to say that the government isn't already sold out? and the saddest part of it all is that we've seen this story told time and time again; in nope, the mystery flesh pit, and more. the story of how animals and other living beings are exploited for profit and spectacle, before the flimsy, gilded foundation of said exploitation is either exposed or goes up in flames. in order for something to be "profitable," it first has to be controlled. made to conform to the standards of production. able to provide an unlimited, steady supply of product with a finite amount of resources. this business model is incredibly dangerous when it relies on wild animals (ex. circuses) for production, so imagine how a business built on a bunch of human-consuming flesh creatures that pose an active threat to a vast majority of the human population is going to pan out.
tldr: the monoliths are a lock, the singularity is the key. the negligence of corporations (as a direct result of capitalism) and their instincts to profit off of something that isn't yet entirely understood were the real villains all along.
Thank you for your wise words.
You have helped those having pea sized brains like me
also thank you so much for doing this video, you introduced me to my favourite analog horror thing.
Imagine how terrifying a mimic could be if they could look completely human on demand, that would make this way worse.
(Edited my comment so it makes more sense.)
That isn't how they work, but that would still be terrifying.

One of the biggest likeable things about this horror project is that they didn't make these some unfathomably deadly powerful creatures. They are *just* powerful enough to be a threat, without them being powerful enough for us to consider them a threat. And then they have more than enough uses for us to want to keep them around.
You have your super-monsters that extinct humanity out there, but these are more like subtle-monsters, that snowball until humanity's *only* remaining choice is to coexist, but coexistence itself automatically means the monster wins.

My favourite thing about the harvester is that it doesn’t just eat any creature, it tries to take in as much energy as it takes to catch prey like a real animal, and the instructions are realistic! It’s not ‘if you see this creature, run away as fast as you can’ or anything, it seems to have a target demographic of hikers or nature explorers since they’re the most likely to realistically run into them, and tells you to use things you might have on you and slowly back away! Just like some advice you’d be given in case of an encounter with like a bear or any other wild animal

I like we just have a picture of a trimming sleeping in a bed, peacefully living the dream of being in a home away from predators, feeling comfy and warm from the near chimney fire, *in a analog horror full of horrifying mimics*
Also here's a fun fact, the reason for the smile on the mimic could be to bite the prey's neck whole, similar to a cat's mouth which has evolved to bite the prey's neck whole, this comes with a disadvantage, as the cat will have to use it's tounge to drink since it's lips cannot create suction to drink, and the cat's mouth also reaches to both of its ears

imagine not being able to control your body and can do nothing but walk for potentially an extremely long time. then you see this strange meaty creature over the horizon and once you're close enough it opens the slit in its neck and begins to devour you whilst you are helpless and cannot even move. yikes

I am SO Happy you decided to check this one out, Ryan! I certainly put the suggestion or there in the smile tapes comments - the world of analogue horror is filled with amazing talent but sometimes certain ones just stand out and strike you. like Gemini. and like this!
At 5:40, if you look carefully, you can see a small black spot where the crawl cannot survive around Brazil. This spot is removed about 1-2 seconds latter the map turns red.
This was a fun video and I really liked it a lot,the horror to it is so cool
