    This video saved me a ton of time and frustration. I hooked the illumination circuit to an aftermarket JVC stereo. That was a bad idea. The dash light dimmer did not dim the radio lights, so it obviously wasn't right. Now the illumination circuit is disconnected from the radio and it looks just the same at night. Hopefully that will solve my problem. After replacing the fuse, all lights work properly. Thanks for such an informative and time-saving video. Well done.

    Thanks for the tip. My 2008 Chevy Aveo5 hatch speedo and tach lights are out. I checked the fuse in the dash fuse box but that was OK. Morning I'll check under the hood.
    You MIGHT want to install the newer LED indicator fuses though. They make it SO much easier to isolate a blown fuse in the dark (worst time to lose your speedo light!).

      Thanks for watching & sharing your comment! Let’s get this figured out!
      It’s very possible that your issues are tied to the Park/Lamp.
      We also recommend checking every single fuse & verifying that all fuses are in good operating condition. It’s also important to verify that you have spare fuses positioned in the spare fuse slots!
      Reference the diagram & verify that a fuse is positioned in every single slot that the diagram shows a fuse to be.
      Let’s start there! Keep us posted! Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your CZcams notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩

      Thanks for checking out the video Ty Boyd! Whats the update...Have you checked the Pk/Lmp fuse yet? In most cases, its the fuse however if your fuse is still good, we need to look deeper into the electrical system. There might be a short somewhere. I recommend removing the tail lights and checking to see if you see any loose wires...usually never the case however we can't rule it out...In addition, its possible that the splice kit/box may beginning to fail...again less likely than a blown fuse! Keep me posted! Please Subscribe to the channel and turn on your CZcams notifications that would be sweet! Thanks again Ty Boyd!

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for checking out the video. It can be a couple different things.
      Its possible that the wires have been harmed...such as over heating/melted. Take a few minutes and inspect your wiring under the hood near the firewall as well as the wiring inside the car near your foot pedals.
      Its possible that your "Ground Wire" has become loose which leads to the intermittent operation of the lights.
      Check the fuse box...Verify that you have the correct fuse in the slot for the lights...example: if it calls for a 10 fuse...make sure you insert a 10 and not a 15 or 20.
      I have attached a video that shows me replacing some bulbs behind the instrument panel...it might help you. Keep me posted

      Thanks for watching & sharing your question. The fuse box shown in this video is inside the engine compartment as shown.
      You will need to go inside vehicle on drivers side. On the lower left side by brake pedal, you will see an access door to an additional fuse compartment.
      On the back of the door will be the fuse assortment diagram. Try & locate a fuse referencing the pressure indicator.

      @@DIYwithMichaelBorders well I'm not sure yet! I put the fuse in, turned on the lights to see & the damn thing blew again right away! I did just have to get the wiring on that light rebuilt a few months ago so that could be my problem. I'm taking the car back to them on Wednesday. Who knows how long that light hasn't been working! At first I kept blowing the fuse for my brake lights almost ever time I drove, carried a whole box of fuses with me at all times! The wrong bulb had been put in last year & burnt the connection where the build got screwed in. Sorry this is all jumbled but it's late & I can hardly keep my eyes open. Anyway I'll let you know! Thanks for the reply Robyn. Check the underside of the fuse box. Look at what amp fuse the light is requiring.
      If it’s requiring a 20amp fuse & the shop accidentally put in a 10amp fuse, it will blow every time.

      @@DIYwithMichaelBorders well you were right!!! The fuse was blown on my right tail light because when they replaced the wiring on that side when they put the light back in place a wire had been bent & over time got pinched causing it to blow the fuse which also took out my lights on my instrument panel. Now that they have unpinched the wiring & replaced my fuse I have all tail lights working & I will now be able to see how fast I'm going when I drive at night, my instrument panel lights do go off the same fuse as my right tail light. Its rare that the actual light burns out which leads me to the 101 splice kit. Recently I spoke to an individual that had a shop look at his car dealing with same issue and found that one of the wires within the 101 Splice kit had rusted/burned to a point that was not allowing it to allow electric current to pass through it. 101 Splice kits can get pretty expensive when having shop or dealership repair them. Thanks for watching Evan! Let’s get this figured out! It’s possible that a fuse has blown. We recommend checking all fuses that reference lights.

      Thanks for the reply! Lights working intermittently is almost always due to a loose ground connection. At this point it’s important to check all wire connection points as well.
      You may want to remove the new bulb you put into the front drivers h/l. See if this alters the activity you are experiencing. It things go back to normal...we need the address the front drivers h/l wiring, harness, and get a different bulb.

      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  Před 7 lety +1

      Hey there thanks for checking out the video. I did a little research on this vehicle.
      1. Several Kia Cerato owners have found the problem to be a lose connection behind the instrument cluster. This will require you to remove the cluster and check connections. You may even need to readjust the tension on the connection cable.
      2. Previous owners have experienced a lose or acting up headlight switch which is on the same circuit and may alter the workings of other bulbs.
      3. In 2006, there was a Manufacture Recall on this issue and was announced that all repairs by a certain date will be covered however that date is expired.....maybe the previous owner had it replaced.....any records of if they did or not????

      Anthony, thanks for checking out the video. I did some research on your vehicle and I have found that many people have run into your very experience. Looks like there was a recall on the instrument cluster for this vehicle years ago. You vehicle is covered if still below 70,000 miles and less than 7 years old. I have found that most people experienced this issue around 125,000 miles.
      There are other Escalade owners that have run into just one side failing while the middle and other side still work. There is usually 1-3 electrical connection points that clip into the back of the entire instrument cluster...one may have come loose...not likely though because if its just your fuel not working and your engine temp gauge is...then its connected.
      I recommend calling the dealer and explain the issue...get a second opinion. The cool thing is there are a few CZcams videos that show changing that instrument cluster. It might be something you can do at home. Keep me posted. Please Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome!

      thanks for viewing and commenting. I did some quick research and have found that it most likely is your ( Side Maker BULB ). The reason for all the outages is due to the fact that it all runs on a single circuit. This means once one item on the circuit goes bad "Or burns out"...it turns off all additional items on circuit. Change the marker bulb and see if that fixes the problem. Keep me updated. Subscribe to the channel if you're up to it. Thanks again!

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your experience. Since the lights are blinking at different times rather than completely not working leads to a definite short in the wiring system. This can be as simple as a loose ground wire. Do a thorough inspection of all your wires that lead to the under side of your dash. Verify that all wires are connected.
      Check that the fuses are all in and secure in all the fuse slots. Also check the larger wire harness that runs from the fuse box to other wires throughout the dash. Lots to look at, so sorry !!
      Another option it can be...however "In most cases" unlikely because your car is running fine...your Alternator may be starting to perform intermittently...which can cause the flickering of your dash lights. Like I said though, since your car is running good, this is most likely not the issue....but not to be completely ruled out haha!

    I was able to use this as a fix but the fuse keeps blowing after a minute or two, any ideas?

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  Před 7 lety +1

      Kevin Grove Thanks for checking out the video. This can definitely be an annoying issue. In short...as you know, Fuses are specifically designed to save the electrical system and its wires. Most of the time you run into a fuse blowing on a consistent basis...you may have a short. (Possibly exposed wires that are coming into contact with other wires).
      I would first disconnect your battery and then begin to look for any frayed, loose, burnt, or damaged wires near your electric box under the hood as well as near your tail lights. If you come across any signs of damaged wires...you'll need to address them. In some cases, electrical tape can be used to secure any open wires however my recommendation is to get a second opinion from a MX shop due to the possible severity of a bad electrical connection. Keep me posted...we can get this figured out together! Please Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome thanks again 😎👍

      Ok so I checked the wires and couldn't see anything, unfortunately my large head could get that far under the fuse box, but from feeling around I didn't feel anything loose or open. I just put another fuse in and it has not blown out yet. Thanks again and I will keep you updated later tonight if it happens again (hopefully it doesn't)

      Kevin Grove Very cool. That's good news! Also you might want to check the connection points that your fuse fits into and clean out any debris/corrosion....Make sure your battery is disconnected....if you have an air compressor, you can try to use the air hose nozzle to remove any/all dirt, lint, leaves...

      Thanks for watching, we recommend disconnecting your negative terminal from your battery & inspecting all wires feeding into & behind paneling leading to your instrument cluster.
      You may have a loose connection which is leading to a short...which is then causing the wires to overheat and/or arc which will lead to your symptoms.
      Locating a loose connection point and then re-securing it & replacing damaged wires will hopefully fix your issue.

      Thanks for the update. Have you removed the entire Cluster for inspection? By chance have you pinpointed any specific wiring or connection leads that are hotter than others that feed into Cluster?
      If you have access to replacing all light bulbs in rear Cluster, new bulbs may help eliminate increased heat...It’s uncommon however possible.

      +Michael Borders I figured it out I made a comment on another video describing how to fix it. But in my case my dash lights wouldn't work my brake lights wouldn't work and neither would my license plate lights and for most people it is the instrument illumination fuse but in my case and most ford cases it is the main light switch fuse

      Thanks for watching & we hope the video helped. If your vehicle is a 2007, we recommend removing that 20amp & installing the correct 10amp fuse. If your vehicle is not a 2007, it’s possible that your system uses a 20amp. Check the inner side of your cap & see what it says....10amp or 20amp...???

      Thanks for checking out the video!
