He didnt step in to it, he started there. You should check out You Need Me, I Don't Need You recorded in the live room. It was what helped launch his career. It is him creating an entire song on a loop pedal and rapping over it. It is absolutely amazing, and done in 1 take also.

Not only is he a good rapper like ren, he can also tell a story too like ren. Small Bump was a song released in 2011 by Ed. It came out at the same time as my and my wife were having issues with her pregnancy and is a song i will never forget
the abilities that this guy has are just unreal.. people mainly know him for his radio hits, it doesnt even resemble anything that he is capable of doing musicwise

My mum used to play his older stuff all the time when I was a kid (god that makes me sound young, I'm an adult I swear), his first albums are insane, it's sad that a lot of people don't know them but I'm glad you're discovering his stuff. It's a lot better than just his most popular songs.
He sings “perfect”, most beautiful song. He does a duet of the same song with Beyonce and another one called perfect symphony with Andrea Bocelli. My favorite all time song was Swaying to the music by Johnny Rivers from the 50s but now it’s Perfect. With your romanticism you will love them.

F64 is a great modern one about his best friend he lost.
The Man is a slower rap/singing, but a notable one and the same album as thinking out loud.

There’s a lot of amazing stuff that weren’t single hits that are great too
Interesting that you mention Ren. This could have been Ren if he didn't get Lymes disease. They are almost the same age (Ren is about 11 months older) and Ed's career took off at about the time Ren released Freckled Angels. Obviously they have similar influences but very different life experiences.
Ed Sheeran is often discounted as just another mainstream artist, but his talent is undoubted. I would love to see a Ren/Ed collab!

His rap style is called Brit Rap where they rap with their accent. When you sing your vocal cords are stretched more the talking. That is why singers loose their accent
Rapping is simply talking fast and some sort of rhyme scheme. Rap used to be called nursery rhymes. For infants.
