The reason why they're priorizing Brazil and Latam is because Rurouni Kenshin, along with Dragon Ball, is huge in Latinamerica. It's the same reason why KoF runs so many tournaments in México, even though the series has died out pretty much everywhere else, they can count on us being there for it.

Yeah, Samurái X/Rurouni Kenshin was really popular in LatAm when they used to air it on Cartoon Network in the early 2000s. Though I have some issues with the new anime's Neutral Spanish dub, Crunchyroll sent the anime to a smaller studio in Cuernavaca, Mexico and while the voice acting is decent, most of the voice actors are don't have that much experience and some characters like Kenshin himself sound kind of weird
To be fair, Samurai X never had a consistent dub, the first anime was dubbed in Colombia, the anime movie was dubbed in Mexico City and all the live-action movies were dubbed in Argentina. Nobody was hoping that Kenshin's original VA, Alexander Paéz, would reprise his role, though some were hoping that Óscar Flores (who voiced him in the movie) or Alejandro Graue (who voice the live-action version) could return, but alas Crunchyroll decided to dub the show in a small studio, which is weird because other less popular anime distributed by CR sometimes are recorded in bigger studio with more experienced VAs

I remember watching some episodes of the 90s Rurouni Kenshin, or Samurai X as it was called, on Cartoon Network back in the early 2000s when I was in elementary school
I recently watched some episodes from that dub and I have to admit that it sounds weird, but that's maybe because it was dubbed in Colombia and they didn't have a lot of experience dubbing anime, but some voices, like Kaoru's actually sounded kind of nice
The animated movie movie was dubbed in Mexico City and the live-action ones were dubbed in Argentina, but the new anime is being dubbed in Cuernavaca, Mexico with actors that aren't as well know as those from Mexico City, but they're doing a good job, though the dub is trying to be more faithful and honestly I kind of missed those mistranslations like calling Kenshin "vagabundo" instead of "rurouni" or referring to him as "Battosái el destajador" in the new dub they just call him "Hitokiri battósai", they dub also refers to Kaoru's dojo as "Kamiya kasshin-ryū" in the Colombian dub they translated it as "escuela/dojo de ken-do estilo Kamiya". Sometimes I just feel that leaving lot of terms untranslated feels kind of unnatural

Yes you could do 'just' the final arc, but that would be a little weird given how old the original is, so I think just remaking the whole thing, presumably this time including the final arc, is the most logical way to go about it.

Samurai X was of weird in that its LatAm dub was made in Colombia instead of Mexico like most of the popular anime from that time, and while the acting wasn't as good as those series dubbed in Mexico, or Venezuela and Chile for that matter, it still has its charm. It's kind of a shame that for the new anime the Spanish dub is being made by completely new actors in a relatively small studio, I was hoping they could at least bring some of the original dub VAs from Colombia, or the ones from Mexico who worked in the anime movie or the Argentinean cast that dubbed the live-action films

The English audiences greatly underestimate how many fans there are in the Spanish speaking countries. Latin American news channels still play the Spanish edition of the theme song from Saint Seiya from time to time -- and it's still on Spotify as a popular hit! And the news anchors sing along! The West grew up with our cartoons. From my limited experience/research and listening to people's experiences, the Spanish speaking world got anime more than the Western cartoons. Good video tackling the new Kenshin anime, as I have yet to fully sit down and watch the first season. Having grown up with the original series, I knew it wasn’t faithful 100% as with most adaptations in the late 90’s that came out as the manga was still ongoing, but yes there were still some fond memories from that show - especially the kick ass OPs and EDs (Sobakasu, Heart of Sword, 1/2, etc). Takes you back to a fun time and before the anime boom hit the US - and when I first saw it here in Manila in ‘98 it was dubbed in English by Sony using voice actors who were also familiar from Robotech and even the Street Fighter II Animated Movie.
Also good use of Bushido Blade, MGS, and Yakuza 0’s Club Sunshine and BGMs. 🔥🎉

I do have some quibbles here and there about some production choices, took me awhile to get used to Kenshin's VA (love everyone else's) but im liking it more now. The other small things are some of the subtitles word choices and grammar, and some of the tiny changes to fight scene screenplay/shots that hit less impactful than OG or manga. But i am loving the extra emphasis on the history and politics! Cant wait for your extra long Rurouni Kenshin video!

The 1994 anime, was a mix of canon and filler in the whole run. Most of the canon episodes was by Gallop, and the fillers by Studio DEEN. 40 episodes from the 95 are fillers.

It is most certain that the punishment he got, was (from an occidental POV) just a slap on the wrist, and yet it was exemplary in Japan, to clarify that those new laws, were serious and that no one was above them. Not even a prominent aryist. Those kind of "attitudes" have always been a problem with the manga industry and with Japan in general. @@thethirdmiko5396 Which is funny that the movies somehow completed the Jinchu arc before the anime but still, the movies have a lot of problems because it crammed so many storylines together to fit the runtime that it didn’t make so much sense. I don’t know if you will agree with me but this is what I can list about why the movies weren’t as good as they were hyped.
      - Hiruma Kihei and Gohei didn’t exist in the movie. It was Jin-E who was the fake Battosai without any sensible motive behind it.
      - They introduced Saito in the first movie and Aoshi in the second instead of the other way around. Also, the Oniwaban didn’t exist and didn’t get killed by Kanryu somehow.
      - Sanosuke and Yahiko were just caricatures of themselves. No character development at all even though they are so crucial for Kenshin’s growth in the manga. Yahiko even took care of the dojo when Kenshin’s out of commission in Jinchu. He’s technically Robin to Kenshin’s Bat (tousai) man.
      - Many of Juppongatana members were absent. The worst case was the absent of Anji and his Futae no Konami training.
      - No proper backstory for Seta Soujirou.
      - Kaoru was written to be a damsel in distress for eternity even though she was actually a damsel in distress in just Jinchu arc. The Jin-E affair wasn’t even considered the meat of Tokyo arc in the manga.
      - The only improvement that the movies did better than the manga was Shishio and his final showdown. He is so terrifying and having the final showdown in the warship landing in Tokyo gave the sense of urgency and higher stake than battles on Mount Hiei in Kyoto.
      - The soundtrack in “The Beginning” kinda ruined it for me, Should have used the one from “Trust and Betrayal”.
      - No Frankenstein Kaoru’s fake corpse even though it was crucial to Jinchu arc and emphasis how much Kaoru means to Kenshin. In Manga, she’s a light in Kenshin’s darkness. In the movie, she’s just a not so good replacement for Tomoe and it was for Kenshin, instead of for Enishi. Also, the fake corpse helped Aoshi’s character development as well to show how he’s a good detective and he’s like one of a few people on earth who completely understands what Kenshin had been through.
      - Kenshin was dead inside when “Kaoru” died. It was until Yahiko got in trouble and Tomoe’s ghost told him that Kaoru is still alive that he came back to life again. It’s an equivalent of Bruce Wayne climbing out of prison scene in The Dark Knight Rises. We didn’t get that scene in the movie.
      - No Oibore, albeit he’s the most important character of Jinchu arc.
      - Enishi in the movie ended up in jail crying about Tomoe’s diary. His life was practically over. Enishi in manga never got himself behind bars but instead went to Rakuninmura and is in a process of healing with his father by his side.
      - Kenshin passing the Sakabatou to Yahiko is such a big event in the manga and it feels earned thanks to both of their character development.

I just disagree about the soundtrack of The Beginning, I think it's good and some of the tracks were inspired by Trust and Betrayal (obviously they can't directly re-use the original soundtrack of the OVA).

Kazuhiro Furuhashi was responsible for directing and handling the OG Anime as well as the Trust and Betrayal OVAs. He really likes involving amazing environmental details into his works which gives the OG anime it's unique and artistic aesthetics and a really one heck of a story board maker too. I was hoping they could grab him gain to do a proper RK anime adaptation..cause the remake badly needs a solid episode director and storyboard, but considering his age now (he's freaking 63) and he's doing Spy X Family, that seems impossible now.
