  • Making a sword scabbard from pine with an epoxy leather wrap. Added some wire wrap for strength. This was a quick scabbard for a previous sword build. Thanks for watching. More projects coming soon. Please Subscribe, Like and Share.

I don’t have a shop or shop tools, where can I send a sword out to have this made, I wonder.

Hi Rob, I would recommend searching a local wood worker or knife maker to save on cost.

Hey nice video, I’m super new to this, trying to make small tanto knife scabbard, Do whole blade has to have contact with the inside of scabbard?
Do you have some other tips, I’m thinking of using chisel and files as that’s what I currently available.
    Anyways thanks for good video❤

how do you keep the blade from falling out?

Has to be a tight fit.

you could probably put something on the top like most holsters. A thin leather strap that goes over the top and holds the sword down by the hilt, and fits into the otherside of the scabbard with a button hole,

Why epoxy for the wood and not wood glue?

Oh wood glue would work for the wood. I'm just in the habit of using epoxy for everything 🙂

  • @sicsemperevellomortemtyran3193

Anything needed on the inside other than glue? Will it rust the blade if not coated with something?

No not really. You could seal with a finisher and or I've seen guys line the inside with cloth or leather. So long as you keep the inside dry and oil your blade, you should be fine.

@@jlsteelcrafts8378 what type of wood did you use? Some can be more acidic and for high carbon steel, which from what you said should be one such steel, these types of wood can lead to corrosion on the blade.

Hi Andre, yep I agree there are higher qualities of wood that could be used. This was kiln dried aspen pine if I remember right. Again tho, using a wood sealer or oil would help with this issue.

@jlsteelcrafts8378 historically scabbards were lined with felt. It draws moisture away from the blade. If you lined it with leather then moisture would be drawn into the blade because the leather wouldnt absorb as much. Its more for longterm storage thinking.

Why can't we just make one of cardboard? I swear it would be so funny
