  • How To Wash Your Car In Winter At A Self Serve Car Wash
    During winter months vehicles tend to be the most dirty. Nasty road conditions and the usage of salt or magnesium chloride make your car filthy and can cause corrosion so keeping up on washing your car will help prevent corrosion but also keep your car looking great even during the nasty weather months.
    In winter it is difficult to wash your car at home due to icy conditions or the chance of pipes or faucets freezing. So what are your options? On option and probably the best option is going to a self serve car wash and utilizing the pressure washer there to effectively clean your vehicle. In this video Adam’s Polishes walks you through the process of washing your car at a self serve car wash, discusses best practices for using a self serve car wash and what products are best to use at the car wash.

      Yep! Gotta do it during low volume times. I’ve gone to the self service by my house at 6am and 10pm before. But that’s the price of winter and driving a nice car. However, my car was ceramic coated by a detailer where there are times I rinse, wash, and double rinse, then dry and call it a day.
      I’m likely gonna use Adam’s graphene products as a rinse aid to see if gives me that little extra bit of clean sparkle though!!

    The fact that this car wash has that large profile vehicle bay is what I always look for in a car wash. I love to be able to wash my big rig tractor myself and places that have these bays are quite rare. The “air chamois” is an even bigger plus! The average truck wash these days is about $59 bucks! I can do my truck in a place like this for about $20-30, depending on how dirty/how much time I need. Like that one guy said, you guys should open up your own “ultimate car wash”, preferably with a large bay like this. I’d certainly make a trip out there! 👍

    • @AdamsPolishes
      @AdamsPolishes  Před rokem

      Hey there, great question! Our shampoos do try to neutralize water, but the first thing you want to do is pressure wash off the heavy dirt and debris, so then there will be standing water sitting on the surface in the sun, which can cause water spots. Putting a pH neutral soap on the wet body panels in the sun first and then leaving the soap residue there throughout the wash, rather than having hard water sitting on the panel is safer and will rinse without spots. Most car washes will only have deionized water for the spot-free rinse, so the initial pressure washing water can have minerals in it that can cause water spots.

    A tip for efficiency: Go online and buy an "electric mist sprayer" for wheel cleaner, ceramic coatings, *optional* soap pre-wash (50/50 soap and water). Saves you from getting carpal tunnel and speeds up any of the previous mentioned processes.
    Steps for wash:
    1)Pressure rinse everything down with water to loosen dirt and saturate with water
    2)*optional* Spray pre-wash w/ electric sprayer
    3)Spray wheel cleaner w/ electric sprayer
    4)Scrub car with microfiber wash pad/ sponge
    5)*optional* rinse soap off
    6)Scrub wheels with wheel brush
    7)If you didn't rinse soap off on step 5, rinse soap off now then rinse wheels off.
    8)If something is still dirty go back and re-spray, or re-scrub
    9)Once everything is good apply ceramic coatings w/ electric sprayer as a drying aid
    10) Dry vehicle with microfiber or evaporator dryer towel
    DONE!

      Hey Mark, thanks and indeed Graphene Shampoo is designed to be a stronger cleaning soap than our blue Car Shampoo, to help refresh and maintain a ceramic or graphene ceramic coating. It uses citrus-based degreasers to remove heavier road grime and film, and the reduced graphene oxide resins help to maintain the performance of the coating as well 👍

    Love the vid! How long is too long to bucket wash your car at a self serve bay? Always have worried about that..

    • @AdamsPolishes
      @AdamsPolishes  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Christian! Every self-serve car wash might be a little different. Some businesses may have signs or notices stating that bucket washes are not permitted, so make sure to double-check to see if there is any signage posted up. A rough estimate would be 20-40 minutes in the wash bay to clean wheels, tires, rubber floor mats, and body of the vehicle if you are working quickly and have all of your materials prepped and ready to go. It will also depend on the size of your vehicle and how dirty it is - figure about 15 minutes to clean and rinse the wheels and tires, and another 15 minutes to wash and rinse the rest of the vehicle. During winter months, we aren't necessarily going for 100% clean, but just trying to make the vehicle look as presentable as possible, to remove most of the road grime, while not freezing your fingers :) Then you can move the vehicle out and finish drying it with some Ultra Plush Drying Towels and CS3 (if your car wash doesn't have the air drying feature shown in this video). We would also recommend trying to go to the car wash during non-peak hours if your schedule allows for it, so that there is less chance of another car pulling up behind you while you are washing your vehicle.

      Hi there, great question! Yes you can use our Graphene Shampoo in a foam cannon, but it will not create as thick of suds as Mega Foam due to the chemistry of the product. I’ve been doing the two bucket method for a few years now. The self serve car wash by my house gives you 20 minutes of wash time for $7.00 so I can completely wash my car and dry it off usually in that 20 minutes give or take. I don’t let the soap sit on the car like you demonstrated but might try that next time. After I do the spot free rinse, I spray Adams Detail Spray all over the car while it’s still wet. I then dry the car then drive home and usually have to wipe down water spray from the doors and mirrors. I try to use Adams Ceramic Boost once a month to reinforce the shine. I need to do a ceramic boost now but it’s ridiculously cold here on the east coast. I’ll have to wait till it warms up a little first lol.

    • @AdamsPolishes
      @AdamsPolishes  Před rokem

      Hi Will! You can use CS3 as a drying aid, but we still recommend our pink Detail Spray as the easiest-to-use drying aid. Detail Spray is safe to use as a drying aid on waxes, sealants, and ceramic and graphene ceramic coatings - just about anything other than matte paint and matte wraps. On darker colored vehicles, using CS3 as a drying aid will require a little more wiping, and mist it sparingly if you are in sunlight to avoid any smearing or streaks :) CS3 is great to use about once a month to maintain protection, or to remove dust or light dirt in between washes as well!

    • @AdamsPolishes
      @AdamsPolishes  Před rokem +1

      Hi Ken, you do want to be careful especially with our Wheel Cleaner and the purple Wheel & Tire Cleaner shown in this video if you have delicate aftermarket wheels, or black painted/powder coated wheels as well, as they could potentially stain if the cleaner dries onto the wheel. Make sure the wheels are cool to the touch, do not let the cleaner dry onto any surface, and clean the wheels in the shade if possible. We always recommend cleaning only one wheel at a time and then rinsing if you are washing at home, but since this was a cold day and Joe had shade from the wash bay to keep direct sunlight off of the wheels, he was able to quickly clean all 4 wheels and then rinse them all at once to save money, rather than using multiple rinsing cycles at the car wash. If you have delicate wheels, play it safe by washing and rinsing one wheel at a time 👍

    I always have a ton of issues with water spots on my black car in Texas. So it is ok to let the soap dry and that wont water spot???

    • @AdamsPolishes
      @AdamsPolishes  Před rokem

      Hey Stephen, yes for the most part - not all soaps are safe to let dry, but a pH neutral soap without any protection additives, such as our blue Car Shampoo or Mega Foam, are safe to let them begin to dry on the surface, and this is actually better than letting hard water sit on the surface. The soap will rinse clean even if it begins to dry - on extremely hot and sunny days (100+F), you may want to try to wash in the early morning or at sunset if possible to reduce the chance of spotting even more.
      Many people may wash a panel and then rinse, then wash another panel and rinse, and so on, but it is better to wash the whole vehicle, starting with the sunny areas first from the top-down, and then move into shaded areas of the vehicle. Then rinse it all at once, starting the rinse with the shaded areas and then lastly the sunny areas, so that hard water is on the sunny parts in as short of a time frame as possible. Lastly, the ultimate way to avoid water spots while washing is to use deionized water for the rinse, with something like our Portable Spotless Water Deionizer, which takes all of the minerals out of the water and allows for a spot-free rinse 👍
