FILM DESCRIPTION:
We all have a superhero inside of us -- it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson's case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do -- have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he'll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam's magical abilities.

DC has a habit of introducing their characters ahead of their solo movies. And by the time they get there, they're a little too predictable. But with Shazam, they got it right!
It's almost like taking the time to flesh out your characters instead of throwing them into a big team-up movie helps with storytelling as well as universe building.

@@wrestlinganime4life288 It's a lot cheaper and faster to create the backstory in animation. These live action films cost a lot of money, scheduling, casting and CGI that blows the animation budget into the next generation.

At first, it would seem to be a terrible idea for six kids, the oldest being a high-school senior, and the youngest being around nine-years-old, to have the combined power of the Justice League. However, they did much, much, much less collateral damage then the Justice League or the Avengers typically do, so go figure.
I liked how they don’t really have detail with their suits, they just look like straight out of the comics😂 Look at the hair and everything and prove me wrong.
Freddie is a gold and light Blonde with long hair in comics=)
@@seekeroftruth9454 NOW he is- in the golden age comics, when Cap Marvel was still by Fawcett Comics (and in DC before the Crisis), he had black hair, same as Cap himself.
Bro this has to have been one of the best and I mean THE BEST moments in Freddie's life. He's one of the biggest fans of Superheroes in DC, now imagine how he feels that he is one.
And that he was able to take flight and master it right off the bat
This movie is definitely one of my favorites. Most DC movies are “meh” at best, but they nailed this one.
Wait till you see The Suicide Squad. That's the James Gunn one.

This moment is so amazing.
When I saw this scene in theaters, I thought to myself "See recent Star Wars films, this is how you "subvert expectations" in a good way." I had heard that in the comics that his siblings became heroes and went in to the film thinking that maybe in the sequel he transfers powers to them. Thankfully, he did it here and gave us 1 of the best fight scenes in the DCMU.

The magic didn’t just give them the forms they “embodied”, it made them the “ideal version of themselves” which is how the magic decides the form you take in the comics as well (Billy’s adult form is the spitting image of his father, who he only caught a glimpse of as an infant).
Pedro’s super swole, Darla’s fast enough to help people without having to be violent, Eugene is tall (plus the video game style powers of the lightning), Mary’s confident and sure of herself, and Freddie can fly and move around without his crutches.

If you ask me, there's no one right tone for superhero films. It all depends on the kind of characters. For example: There are heroes like Black Panther and Batman that are more fitting in a dark and serious movie, abd then therecare heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy or She-Hulk or Shazam that need to be adapted in a more comedic light to make them justice.
After watching Black Adam, I can see where the writers crossed out BA and wrote in Sivana. It's also easy to how Black Adam factored into the story originally.
Shazam and Wonder Woman: The two DC films that got it done perfectly!

Because everyone can become heros if you have justice.
I think the name Captain Marvel suits this character better. It's a corny superhero name, but being a kid and friends with another kid who's a superhero enthusiast, it's entirely plausible for him to come up with such a name.
Meanwhile, in the MCU, the name was abruptly dropped by Peter Parker in 'Far From Home', despite Danvers never addressing herself as such nor have the two ever had a proper introduction together.

@@danifit24 That's not my point. The MCU usually had clever ways to name their superheroes, like 'Iron Man'; given by the press; or 'Guardians of the Galaxy'; given by the villain.
For Captain Marvel, it was off-screen. It feels unearned. We don't know why that is her name.
DC legally can call the character "Captain Marvel" in the story itself, but cannot use the name in any kind of marketing material due to trademark reasons.
Calling him "Captain Marvel" would have been confusing as all Hades, We already have a Captain Marvel in the MCU, having on in the DCEU would have been a ClusterFuck.

I had to say I freaked out when I saw Adam Brody. Whole movie my friend and I wast talking how this little kid loooks like Adam Brody and the freakin DID IT
The one part I like about this scene and the fight scene that follows is that while each member of the Shazam family specializes in one of the powers that makes up shazam's powers, they each individually have all of shazam's powers. For instance the one they focus on who shoots lightning blast out of his hand, he flies during a later part of the fight scene. Billy has every single one of the powers and has greater control over all them I feel, but each one of the family while having all the powers each specialize in one of the different powers that is most in tune with their personality and heart.
They reshot this scene for shazam 2 so mary is grace

Seem kinda funny how long it took Billy to be able to fly and yet it took less than 30 seconds for Freddy to get off the ground. One of my favorite scenes of the movie
