Hollywood is dying and, while I don't think it will completely collapse, I think that a majority of the big studios will keel over or be forced to downsize to the point they are indistinguishable from what they've been and what we're used to. That said, every ending is a new beginning and I honestly believe that we are on the cusp of a new independent studio/film/creator-centric film renaissance. Everyone I know here who's been on the outside struggling to "make it" or even just survive are going to have their day if they just hang on a while longer... including me.

Great review! Now on my priority list. Your delivery of “They will never recover” was spot on.
Looks like it is going into wider release this weekend. Hopefully the flick can find the audience is deserves. We need more movies like this.
I just came back from a trip to Seattle. Most locals there truly believe (or want to believe) that Bigfoot exists somewhere in the Cascade mountains.
I know my fair share of enthusiasts on this front. I've never been bitten by the bug, but this movie was a blast all the same.
There is a passionate group of believers in Oklahoma too.
Not a believer myself, because I am too aware how little unspoiled wilderness there is left for such cryptic to being living in. Maybe the Asian yeti legends, but I don't think that habitat is large enough either.
I definitely understand why so many walk outs were registered at the film festival when it was debuted. I enjoyed it for what it is, especially that it was made at all.
The prop was too obviously artificial, but, for safety ethics, I am glad they didn't try to use something else in it's place.
I don't feel a need to ever watch it again, but I can see it becoming a cult phenomenon, once the audience that love it, get to breathe their appreciation for it, that will keep it in the cultural zeitgeist.
They mentioned Sometimes a Great Notion at the Jesse Eisenberg Q&A last Friday
Interesting. Well I won't hand out any speeding tickets. The homage works really well in the film.
Sounds like you really would appreciate the Swedish movie Border (Gräns), about a strange Neanderthal-like woman who realizes that she is a troll adopted by human parents. The screen-play is based on a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist, who also wrote the excellent vampire story Let the right one in (Låt den rätte komma in), which was turned into a great Swedish move and an America movie that I've heard is pretty good as well.
Border is fantastic.
Great review. Well it's in 900 theaters this weekend so hopefully they make a little profit anyway. Riley sings the final song Creatures of Nature, which is on here.
Nice! Her stock continues to climb..
Would have probably passed on this but after following your channel I’m game to watch. Thank you for showing me that there are gems out there in the midst of so many terrible Hollywood offerings
Cool Indie movies and weird foreign films are what keep this channel going in between all of the bloated mediocrities. Always happy to sing the praises of the cultural oddities out there.
Disgusting and heartwarming is a really difficult (but magical) tone to achieve, and the trailer definitely did grab me, so I'm very happy to hear the movie lives up to its mission. Thanks again for yet another excellent review!
Much obliged, Mr. Arminio. The flick truly is magical and hysterical in equal measures.
Hey, James! Sounds reminiscent of 1981's "Quest For Fire" by Jean-Jacques Annaud and 1988's "Missing Link" by Carol and David Hughes!
I'm going to have to look up "Sometimes A Great Notion".
Quest For Fire has been on my must-watch list for years. I've heard nothing but rave reviews so it looks like we both have some cool flicks we need to hunt down.
I feel like if someone could remake the original Legend of Boggy Creek with today’s special effects and not use F’bombs, it could be a blockbuster for the ages.
Oh wow, I think I can guess which scene in "SAGN" you're referring back to.
Yeah. Once seen, it is impossible to forget.
Thanks for the enthusiastic review and you seem to be feeling better. Ari Aster being involved could be promising. BTW, Happiness, from what I remember from a single view, the most ironic movie title, because it was depressing as hell.😊
Yeah, Happiness is as dark as dark comedy gets and for the late Nineties, that's saying something. It had lots of healthy competition on that front.
Saw it tonight based on this review. There's one prop I didn't care for but the movie sure was interesting in a Swiss Army Man sort of way surprised I was even able to see this in a theater.
I thought this was a good one. I heard Jesse Eisenberg talk about this on the Chinwag podcast and I am fascinated already- will definitely go and see this.
Are we going to have Troll family next 🤣
Troll Hunter from 2010 was pretty close.
It wasn't as weird as that other movie with troll people mating. If you are into gor , then watching this will be fine. That one scene in particular will really make you laugh.
Kind of strange that the movie poster artwork looks like the art for the band Sasquatch. Look up the album cover of Sasquatch II
i loved the film, its ery weird and unique so i can see why some might not
This was not the sequel to Harry & the Hendersons
I've seen Sometimes a Great Notion, and I know well the scene you're talking about, James. Sadly, it is a film that seems to have totally vanished from the culture.
That scene scarred my soul for 100 lifetimes.
I rented Sometimes a Great Notion from my video store tonight thanks to your mention of it. That scene is brutal in both films. I LOVED Sasquatch Sunset… I’d really like to read the screenplay.
Check out MAIDAAN released this week
One of the best sports films in recent times
Thanks for the heads up! Just watched the trailer.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Looking forward to your review
I don’t think we saw the same movie , it was cringe 👎
I hated it. The infantile toilet humor made me switch off, didn't stay till the end. Either you'll love it or hate it I guess. It's at 33% on Rotten Tomatoes Audience ratings 70% Critics ratings.

Only thing worse than the movie is this review
It’s not a comedy at all.
This movie was fucking stupid. And it had no real ending. It just ends.
Saw it at Berlinale. Hated every second. Redundancy the movie. 🫠
Totally fair. Definite niche appeal but I laughed like a maniac.
@@lovecraft7676seeing it on 420 after some celebrations, hoping we have a good time
@@IJohnSmith perfect plan!
