    Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

This guy's last credited film is Battlefield Earth from almost 18 years ago. And I really appreciate his brutal honesty about his career, he sounds like a cool dude.

I have never considered myself a writer yet I have a story in my heart I want to tell. I think fear has prevented me from even attempting to write it - this interview resonated with me. Thank you.

Yes, it's cliche but "Hindsight is 20/20". At least he's still involved in writing. He never quit.

I love this video- I think its the way we are introduced to the world. Our families and stuff.. I was raised -- Pay the bills or go live in a Cave somewhere.. He's looking back at back which is 20/20. Most people always wish they would of went a different way with things..

Very true. People typecast you based on your choices of projects.

It's hard to say no to money especially when you come from nothing. I think 90% of writers would have done the same thing, because they have loans to pay off, rent or mortgage to pay every month, car payments, food, children's school, etc. And when you have no money and someone says here's a truck full for doing this project, man, its hard to say no to that, even though it will maybe hurt you in the end.

Step 1: Get an offer from a producer to read your script.

Corey... 'never mind the 'perceived' mistake... to hell with it. You made the choice, and look at all the positive experiences you've had as a result. The other choice you might have, or could have, made is imaginary... it didn't happen; so live and enjoy to the fullest the one you're living... the only one you've got that's real. 'Thanks' for the insights your living choice is delivering to the rest of us.

Experience is a cruel, but extremely effective teacher. Sometimes, we are so stubborn, we just need to SEE reality to understand it, and what's going on now in 2020 America is a perfect example of that.
But remember this: sometimes, you have to take the job you don't want to pay the bills. If you're struggling financially, or you have a family to feed, and Disney comes along and offers you small truck load of money, you should probably take it. Write stuff you love and get that sold, but there's also that matter of reality again. If you've got to make rent, you've got to make rent! I think Mr. Mandell's mistake wasn't that he took the studio jobs. Rather, he wrote exclusively for studios without writing his own scripts.

He's honest & raw here but he's too harsh on himself.
He made crazy money! He wrote! There will always be someone who does better than you. He did good. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Very cool to hear somebody open up and be that candid. What bugs me though is that it feels like the dude had learned, but instead of taking that learning and applying it forward (he ain't that old), he's applying to regret in the past instead.

The question is... Do you want to be a screenwriter FOR the money? If so... There is something shallow about that. It's like a doctor ONLY wanting to be a doctor for the money.
