  • This is a pilot's advice for how to not be scared to fly. We will share the best tips to help you conquer your fear of flying. If you are scared to fly, we can help you not be anxious on your next airplane ride. Many friends have aviohobia, the fear of flying in an airplane. Other friends, like myself, are afraid of turbulence and lack of control. These tips include asking flight attendants to speak to the pilot and to keep your seatbelt fastened while flying. Knowing what a pilot trains for and is aware of in flight are tips that will help you feel less anxious in the plane. My friend will share his knowledge that will give you tips to have a more peaceful flight because you have overcome your #fearofflying. I hope these are the best tips for your next flight!

      You will be so proud of yourself when you are done. I highly recommend podcasts to listen to. That way you can keep your eyes closed if that helps. Research if your plane will have movies you can watch on your phone or on the back of the seat screen. Take headphones in case they don't have any free ones left. Let me know how it goes and thanks for watching!

    Hi Laurie, I enjoyed watching your video. I have a tip that perhaps parents or guardians can use: get children flying from a young age. I've been flying since I was eight months old approx five times a year in total including return flights ( up until three years ago) and so I wasn't filled with fear that comes when your an adult i.e from stories you hear etc. I guess that's a proactive approach. I still always say a prayer to Jesus before the plane takes off, once it's made it up off of the runway and I always rememeber to say Thank You to Him once we've landed safely. I remember when people used to clap once the plane landed congratulating the pilots on a safe journey... I always put a little bit of cotton wool in my ears before take off and landing to stop any pain from air pressure :) I hope this helps. Love Andrea xx

    Plane wings are meant to flex, in a soaring plane you can see the wings are curved when it is in the air. Planes are designed to handle stress and turbulence well.

    I only flew once when I was four, but now I have a massive phobia of heights from other life experiences. It's enough that even being on an elevator/escalator is asking a lot and I cling to someone because I feel like I'm "falling". I also am pretty paranoid about not being able to escape if things go sour, and yes, I too have irrational thoughts I have trouble turning off when confronting any of my phobias. But I would like to start now be not being afraid because I would want to travel to Ireland one day and fly and remember it!

Flying to Vancouver from the East Coast doesn't bother me, but I am terrified about the flight back from Honolulu to San Francisco. Being over the water for so many hours without an airport nearby (in case of an emergency) just scares me. I have flown several times before, but never over water for that long. My husband and I fly for travel and fun now. I am not only nervous when I am flying but also when my grown kids and grand babies are flying. I always address it before take off with a prayer, then I do the whole statistics thing in my head. How many flights are leaving today all over the world and nearly all are going to be safe flights. What are the chances of something going wrong !?! I try to keep my thoughts from going off the cliff, anyway I still can not calm myself enough for sleep. Most of our flights are stateside however we are planning a trip to Australia and I can not imagine NOT sleeping for that long. I think I have more issues dreading the flight and concerns than I do once up in the air. At that point it is out of our hands and the taxi pre flight Prayer to Jesus helps.

    The airplane part doesn't bother me, just the part leading up to getting on the airplane! From not overpacking, checking in for my flight, getting to the airport on time, finding and then getting through security, getting to the gate on time especially if they have changed the gate. I had some bad experiences years ago then did not fly for a long time (more for financial reasons than anything else). I find the whole thing so stressful! I have a terrible fear of flying. I have a business trip in a few weeks and the anxiety is overwhelming to the point where I I'm getting diarrhea and heart palpitations. To make it worse, I have 2 connecting flights on the way home, and one of those flights is on one of those small regional jets. I know the odds are in my favor and the probability of anything bad happening is incredibly slim, but I just can't shake the fear that no matter how "good" the odds are, I AWAYS feel that MY flight will be that fatal one out of millions. I'm so tired of feeling this way. There's so many places I want to see that require flying. I know I can't predict the future and nothing is certain, but I don't wanna die from flying. I just wanna be able to enjoy flying, whether it be domestic or international, knowing that I'm gonna be ok and nothing bad will happen and that it's not my fate to die in a plane crash/explosion/incident/etc. I do wanna sign up for the SOAR courses but I can't afford it at the moment. My wife wants to fly to Hawaii next year for her birthday. I'm already nervous cos it's 100% over ocean.

    Hate to fly , love to travel. It’s a curse. I particularly detest landing for some reason. Two of my rituals are : During takeoff I say the rosary ( any meditative activity would garner same result ) and during descent I do the crossword puzzle in the airline magazine . Having to focus and think takes my mind off the panic but I still freak out from time to time 🤪

      See there? You just admitted it. It's not your fault if someone is mean. Watch what people in front of you do while standing in line. Practice at home having your boarding pass or ticket (whatever your airline calls it) out with your ID, suitcase and backpack. Practice putting them away after showing them to the TSA agent. Maybe your goal is not to overcome the fear but to walk tall through it. But that's easier said than done. Em, I appreciate you watching. Picture me saying good job over and over after each step. I did forget to say that you need to take everything out of your pockets to go through security. And download your airline's app onto your phone to browse around.

    For me it’s not having the possibility to escape... I had panic attacks on planes in the past and I’m afraid of longer flights meaning being trapped longer. I’d love to know in what cases pilots land in between (if there’s an airport near by) like what medical issues are enough for this so I won’t be worried in case anything happens

    • @ajt6798
      @ajt6798 Před 2 lety

      I know you have the answers already 😄 but if someone is severely I'll like stroke etc pilots will divert to another airport but usually panic attacks are handled by the flight attendants and maybe in some cases other passengers

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie

    My fear is not being able to get out of the plane if they say there is a delay in getting off the plane. If the door is closed, I WILL have a full blown panic attack. But, if I have to sit and wait for hours to get off the plane, I’m fine as long as the door is allowed to be open. I can’t feel trapped or I will become a crazy mess. I can’t have someone else in charge of when that door opens. Solve that one!

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  Před 3 lety

      Hmmm, maybe it'll help knowing that they do not close that door until the last minute. Can you talk with your doctor about some calming medicine that day? Music in your ears once you sit down? Something to eat once you sit? I hope it goes so much better than you can imagine. I'll pray for your trip too-that it will not be delayed while the door is closed.

      I think I’m more freaked out about after we land if we can’t get out right away. And sitting there until we can have a door open is what freaks me out. It’s a piece of mind seeing it open. But I know for “safety reasons” they can have it opened. 😔
