  • This is how i replaced the lower ball joint / rose bush on my e60 530d BMW 5 series. I am not a mechanic and take no responsibility for any damage or injury caused by anyone attempting this procedure. This video is just an illustration of how I carried out the procedure on my car and hopefully it will assist anyone wanting to know what is involved in this procedure if thinking of attempting the job themselves. As always, if unsure, let the professionals do it. Thanks for watching.

    Just did this on my E39 M5 last weekend. Holy hell was it a lot of work. Thankfully found another great vid by FCP Euro which had a tip to undo the swing arm which drops it down and exposes the ball joint. Prior to that I was trying to man handle it and it was NOT going well for me lol.
    Looks like the E60 is very similar design.

    • @stashtrey1
      @stashtrey1 Před 4 lety +1

      PS. Did the differential bushings the weekend prior and that was equally a PITA! Nearly crushed myself getting the diff out. So glad that is behind me now. Huge improvement with both of these repairs. Wish I had the patience to record it all and start a CZcams channel. I get started and can't stop until it's done.

      I know the feeling I often do jobs then regret not recording it afterwards. I plan to video every job but when I start struggling with something the video sometimes goes out the window. You should try to take some shots if ya can as I think it helps people. I've only a few videos really but the feedback has been very positive across most videos and some people have said they avoided a bill. If we all do a bit then we will cover all the common faults between us Haha.

      By the way the normal bearing puller kits will not be suitable because of the set up in the car. I first tried to use a sealey pulker kit which had tonnes of sizes and none of them fitted. You will need one with a part cut out of the large cup (you will see what I mean when you do the job) so that it fits properly. Without a section cut out the normal puller kits will pull at an angle and just bend the bar.

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908

      It squeaked on and off (only really in dry weather) but it failed the MOT with excessive play on that Bush so I had to change it as I'd no choice. If ur going to do it I would recommend using a good tool to push it out. Mine was really stuck in there big time.

      In my case it was an mot fail that pointed it out to me. I wouldn't have picked up on this myself really as it's easier to see on the big mot shaker thingy. There may have been a slight squeak from it but it was faint. If its really bad I would imagine it would be easier to notice though.

      It might be that bush causing it. Prob have to take a good look / wiggle at things to confirm it as it could also be an arm or something potentially. In my case there was no noticable signs while driving at all, apart from a slight square maybe but handling wise there was no symptoms at all.

      I was thinking the same - the tension from the anti-roll bar can be really high and quite dangerous. Better to lift both sides from under the diff and then put axle stands under both jacking points. I definitely wouldn't recommend using a trolley jack under the suspension arm as they are light alloy and can be damaged easily.
