I love my Excursion. Lifted on 37s, 6.0 making all kinds of power, gets great fuel economy and sound like a jet due to turbo whistle. The best thing about it.. the body is still mint after 16 years, not a single parking lot dent or scratch. People don’t park right next to me, they don’t cut me off or tailgate me. It’s fairly peaceful when you’re the king of the road..

The V10 is still in Production, but 2014 was the last year that the F-250 & F-350 could come with the 5.4L or 6.8L.Now both Trucks have the option of the Gas 6.2L or Gas 7.3L.However,the F-450 & F-550,and even going into the F-650/F-800 & Motor Homes, they still make the V10 for those only. The F-450 & F-550 ever since 1997 has always had the option of the V10,I don't know if Ford will discontinue it though.

The Ford Excursion was from 2000-2005 in the United States alone, but it wasn't discontinued until 2006 in Mexico. These Trucks are straight up behemoths and they almost weigh as much as my AM General M998 HMMWV.The 2WD Excursions had the Coil Springs while the 4×4 Excursions had the Leaf Springs as well as a Dana 50 for a Front Axle and a NV-273 Transfer Case. These Trucks are as good as they come, with the Triton or Powerstroke regardless. The 2000-2003 Excursions had the 5.4L,6.8L,or 7.3L.The 5.4L is 260 HP/303 lbs of Torque,6.8L is 300 HP/325 lbs of Torque, and 7.3L is 250 HP/525 lbs of Torque. For the 2003-2005 Excursions the 5.4L is 300 HP/365 lbs of Torque,6.8L is 362 HP/457 lbs of Torque,I can't remember the specifications on the 6.0L Powerstroke, and I highly prefer the Mileage and durability of the 1994-2003 7.3L (1997-2003 for the 10th Gen Trucks).Another great factor about them is the impressive 4R100 Transmission. These are primarily based on the Ford F-250,but I have noticed that the Springs,Braking Systems, and even Frames aren't exactly the same as the Super Duty. For some reason,on some Excursions, the Springs seem to be a pain in the ass after awhile,or if it gets damaged.I actually haven't owned a Excursion but I've gotten several 7.3L's,have a 6.8L,and had a few 5.4L's.They were reliable and nearly bulletproof. The V10 for a Gas Excursion has more Torque and is neat for towing, the 5.4L doesn't like alot of hills, espiecally with a 7,000 lbs Truck such as these. The Tritons are just cheaper and easier to maintain, but the Powerstroke is the elite and will survive any Miles, with obviously being more expensive. The 7.3L is a very reliable Engine, while the 6.0L has more Torque on it,but I require those having a Tune since they are horrible as a Stock Engine, the only good 6.0L has to be Bulletproof.

I know of a few shops around me that can do the install. Not sure of your comfort level. It’s pretty major work that you have to get exactly right or you’ll have major leaks and/or wind noise. The Ford Excursion was never made in 1999,they only were produced for 2000-2005 in the United States, however in Mexico they weren't discontinued until 2006.The last Excursion in the U.S. was Manufactured in September of 2005 if I remember correctly.2000-2003,they had the option of the 7.3L Powerstroke,in June of 2003 was when the 6.0L Powerstroke came into production for them as well. The other options that they had for their entire timeline was the 5.4L & 6.8L Tritons, from 2000-2003 they came with the 2 Valve-16 Valve 5.4L/2 Valve-20 Valve 6.8L,and then in later 2003-2005,they still came with the Tritons but the 5.4L & 6.8L at that time was the 3 Valve-24 Valve for V8/3 Valve-30 Valve for V10.
The Ford Expedition was soley based on the Ford F-150 for 1997-2003,with the 4.6L or 5.4L V8.The Explorer wasn't the same and only had the 4.0L or 5.0L from 1995-2002.However,sometime in 2003 was when the Ford Explorer became identical and based on the Ford Expedition for that time, all until the 3 Valve Tritons were discontinued in 2008.

I have a 2005 limited diesel. I don't have the same need for the truck that I did when I bought it, and I don't daily drive it anymore, but....I will never get rid of it. It's not the most comfortable riding vehicle, but the driver's seat (captain's chair version) is the most comfortable driver's seat in any vehicle I've owned. A word of caution, one thing to look out for with Excursions is rust. Especially roof rust. If you're considering buying one, look for a clean one from southwest, west coast or Southern area far from the ocean. Salted winter roads, or salty ocean air can accelerate the tendency to rust from Excursions.
