The main antagonist being named Stolas had me look the name up, and apparently in demonology "Stolas" is mentioned in the Ars Goetia as a Great Prince of Hell commanding twenty-six legions of demons and is a teacher of astronomy while also being knowledgeable in herbs, plants, and precious stones. Often depicted as a raven or a crowned owl with long legs. So if the name is any indication then the Smurfs are quite likely contending with a demon and some of their legions.
