I was a bandie, this was what I had for my dear wife’s funeral, my son played cornet in the band that day with all the rest of the players. It’s what I want when I go. The tempo make it here. The Sallies play it at this tempo too.
Thanks for posting this recording from the 1930's - I've never heard this recording before - the modern recording is one of it not my favorite brass band recording - nice to hear the continuity of band sound excellence in the Black Dyke Band
This wasn't the first time Black Dyke Band recorded the hymn tune . I believe it was on the first ever recording they made about 1912 . There were 4 tracks that also included Knight Templar , a Strauss Polka , ( which I can't remember ) and possibly the finale of 1812 Overture . Sorry about being vague regards the last 2 tracks , but hope that was of interest .

What a brilliant rendition! Beautiful 85 years later. Just goes to prove you can't keep a good tune down.
