- Unboxing and a quick demo of my new little practice amp - A Vox Pathfinder 10. The sound during the demo is unfortunately on the left side only (oops!) but I will be doing a proper demo at some point. First impressions are that it's a great little amp, it looks great and is really inexpensive.
Update: I recently did a video with some pedal in front of the amp. • Vox Pathfinder with pe...
If you want a Brian May sound, try putting the gain on 3/4 and the bass and treble on zero
Thanks for the tip!
Joe Smith clean
I would expect OD...but ok. Thanks.
In the distortion channel or the clean channel?
When an amp can sound fucking great on a camera's microphone for 100 CAD, that is a good buy
I just bought one from the same shop and it arrived yesterday. I was seriously impressed for the price. It's only 10w but the looks are utterly stunning and it's so much bigger than any other practice amp I've had before.
Same so much bigger then the frontman 10 or even the marshall 10g.... this amp is stunning look wise. and sonically sounding
This was the best $89.99 I have Ever spent !!! This is like an AC10 without the tubes its bloody loud the small lil bulldog speaker is a beast. I run a Way Huge Green Rhino Overdrive pedal with the clean channel i could not believe how much sound was coming out of this small amp. I WILL NEVER SELL THIS. Get one before VOX realizes they are selling these way to cheap and discontinues them.
Right! I heard all about the Vox Pathfinder 15, but the Pathfinder 10 with the right settings and a semi decent guitar into it, and a pedal if you want, really rocks. It’s gutsy, ballsy and has got bags of character and warmth. It can sound a bit naff if you set it up wrong with a crap guitar. But in the right hands, it’s one of bargains of the century! I have got a Vox AC15C1 tube amp and it competes with that easily, although it lacks the power and volume of the AC15C1.
By the way for this amp I got a Boss reverb pedal (Fender 1963 type) and it works real well on this amp. I happen to like the sound of that pedal. The Valvetronix VT 20X is great if you want all the effects and more. I am looking into the AV 15 which gives you more tube and effects and less digital programming if that's what you like. But this amp has really nice tone, is under 100 bucks and if you want, you can choose you own reverb by using a pedal if you like that sort of individuality and additions rather than taking what is given you. I like the AV15 or 30 option at this point because it has some modeling features for about 230 bucks, but only a few - with Vox's own reverb and delay built in - it is a lot simpler and is an analog sound (small tube for pre-amp and power). I think that helps to trim down how many (at least Vox) practice amps one has hanging around.
CM Kilcullen how would u use pedals with this, since it hasn't got a line in/out
it does have a line out, and you can just run your guitar cable through your pedalboard and into the amp
you must put the pedal between the guitar and the amp. with these small cables. and you need a power supply FOR PEDALS IF YOU CANT PUT A BATTERY . if they do not send THE 9v SUPPLY with THE pedal . the JOYO Sweet BAby came with such a 9V power supply. to my surprise but all other not . some you cant put a battery. so i bought a power supply for attach about 7 pedals. but of course you do not need all together. maybe 3. with compressor and overdrive Pedal maybe a distortion or a chorus or a delay.... depends on the sound you want have. but this Pathfinder has Reverb. its not bad FOR EXERSICE...
Sweet little amp, & really loud, thanks for doing this, just might get one, and great price too.
Sweet! Thanks I'm buying one. Settings at 12 o'clock with a line6 amplifi fx100 and Gibson Sg standard , love the classic looks too!
I want to buy an electric guitar and I've been looking for a good affordable amplifier. This one seems to work just fine. Thank you for the video
***** not yet
+narkune if you're still debating getting this, I would recommend it. I just got one today and for a little amp, it's definitely a great buy for your first amp.
+narkune you're welcome!
it's good, definitely great for a first amp. I just got one recently myself and I demoed it against a marshall and a peavy in the same price range and the vox sounded better to me.
I'm about to order a player series telecaster and this vox Pathfinder 10 I'm so excited
Hows it sound? I've ordered a squire tele and this amp!
@@rossrichards0n I played one in Guitar Center with a Squier Tele, it is SO good!
That is exactly what I did.Good choice.
Planning on doing the same thing!! Already ordered the guitar.
Very nice, thank you for the upload. I really like the look and sound of this little guy. Have you tried any pedals with it?
Thanks. I have put my pedals in front of it but not really dialled anything in for them, just had a quick blast. That might have to be a quick video! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow! Tone demo on left channel only. Bravo!
Got one of these for fun. It's pretty neat for such a tiny amp. Not too fond of the drive sound though, probably because of the way it clips hard to ground via the red LEDs pair.
I actually quite like the drive on it! But I know what you mean, it's not exactly a nice smooth vintage distortion. For the price I can't fault it as a neat, fun little practice amp.
I don’t have to worry about annoying neighbors, because I don’t have any
Sounds great
Do you think this amp would work well with a tele for an oldschool kinda punk rock setup?
Don't have a Tele to try with it but my Epiphone Goldtop with P90's sounds pretty good. For old school punk the drive channel will get you there though it might be a little modern sounding. If you want to use it with a band, the amp might struggle for overall volume. Thanks for watching!
I dont believe that this small cute vox can have so great sound :O Im pretty impressed...have to check it in shop...probably i wont buy guitar so soon (i plan to buy bass) but if ill buy guitar ill buy this little guy :)
Nice review!
Sounds awesome
"That's Pretty Darn Loud" LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL XD
Sounds great. Very voxy !!!
When the overdrive was on does i has hearing a loud base buzzing sound when you had the bass turned up when the volume is low and thought could it be faulty ? However after buying a better power supply for my pedals that sound was gone 👍
That's pretty impressive, were you recording that direct into your phone?
Hi Ian, thanks. I think it was actually on my proper camera but the audio was just using the camera's built in mic.
+AC's Guitar Adventures sounds great, think it may be what I'm after.
Have a fender princeton that's too loud for home use and a 20 watt mustang that for whatever reason I just don't get on with. Need a basic small decent quality amp that I can add pedals to just for home use.
Is it good for the blues..
great video n' great amp as well but got just one doubt ... between this pathfinder n' the pathfinfer UNION JACK ( The WHITE VERSION ) which one gives you the MORE NATURAL sound , the more defined sound , I mean which one sounds more LIKE tube amp ??? n' which one runs better with pedals I mean with disto or fuzz ?? I'll appreciate someone reply me t-you =)
Hi, thanks for watching. I'm pretty sure that the union jack version of the amp is essentially the same as the regular one apart from the paint job (could be wrong as I've not used one but that would be my assumption, same as the red one you can get). As far as getting a natural tube-like sound, I'm afraid you'll just not get it out of this. I've done a video with some distortion / fuzz pedals with this amp so you can hear for yourself czcams.com/video/4AhHuMj73Dg/video.html - hopefully that'll help!
thanks a looooooooooot for ur reply =)
The sound at 4:18 was that sound a part of the amplifier?
Snookie Snacums the scratchy sound? That was just my hands on the guitar.
I wonder, is it possible to run this into an extension cab as a head using the line in/out/headphone jack?
Weeaboo Trashski I don't think that would work very well. But a mod I intend to do at some point is to put a break in the speaker cable, solder on a jack and socket to enable the use of an external speaker rather than the built in one.
I need replacement knobs - no in set screws - only pull and push on and off.
Has anyone actually ordered such for this amp. I prefer the white or cream color knobs, but most of the parts sites I inquired with by phone have the set screw types.
Does anyone know where I can get pull off push on white knobs for this amp? I know what the typical web sites for parts are already, but I need to know which one actually carries these knobs in alternate colors for Vox. Thanx. Allparts and guitarparts were not of any help.
Hi CM. I usually trawl eBay when I'm looking for knobs and things so maybe try looking there? It'd be worth looking at and measuring the shafts of pots when you take the knobs off.
does this VOX take pedals good ? without this horrible sound some amps have when putting the Pedal on high gain. Overdrive pedal for example . or is it not the amp. is it the guitar Jack? magnetic influenced...
I actually did a video with the distortion and overdrive pedals I have. Check it out here czcams.com/video/4AhHuMj73Dg/video.html
You can run a pedal or two with a small practice amp, but I was warned not to overload any amp with too many pedals, and especially a small amp. A tube amp
may be more forgiving, such as one of those Supros or a small Marshall tube, or Vox custom tube 3 watt amp or whatever it is. Lately I'm running a new Boss
Blues Driver pedal into either my small 10 watt V3 Blackstar amp, or the new Vox VX50, and if those amps already sound great, the BD only makes it sound 1000x
better for sure.
what is a good but inexpensive practice amp for a beginner who loves Country music or songs like Jimmy Reeves ...soft and warm sound ..and it should not make a horrible sound when i pit pedals with gain...
I haven't really tried a lot of practice amps but for somebody beginning, you should take a look at some of the digital modelling amps. The Boss Katana, Roland Cube or Fender Mustang would be a good place to start. A modelling amp will give you a whole variety of tones that a regular solid state amp won't and also let you find a sound you really like when you decide to upgrade and buy a bigger, better amp.
needs to have the LED mod done to it
People want to hear what sounds can be produced out of the box. In my opinion. Its a practice amp, so most wouldnt bother with mods, especially when it sounds so good as is.....
does fit in a backpack?
The measurements are roughly 38x17x28cm so it might fit - depends on how big the backpack is!
Can you plug earphones into it to play silently?
It does have a headphone / line out jack so you can definitely do that but I've never done it myself as I have other solutions for playing with headphones.
Some say, that the overdrive on this amp is bad. What do you think?
I think that the overdrive is great for such a cheap amp. It has good crunch all the way to high gain. It's obviously not a tube amp but compared to anything else at this sort of cost, it's fantastic. I'm not such a fan of the clean channel but I always like my cleans to have a little grit to them anyway so more often than not, I'll use the overdrive channel with the gain turned down.
Lies. I played this in GC, and the drive was great.
Is this the same as the Vox V9106?
Gordon Hazell yup
Anything you can get in Andertons you can get elsewhere cheaper
I'm sure you're right, though when I bought this Anderton's were definitely the cheapest option at the time for this particular amp.
Which is better, this or Marshall Mg10cf?
Hi Jose. I haven't tried the Marshall so I'm afraid I can't compare - Maybe someone else can chip in? I suppose the one advantage the Marshall has is that there is an input for an MP3 player (or whatever) to jam along to, something that the Vox doesn't have.
Marshall dirty is great all around better amp.But the box clean for 10 watts is really nice.
how does it work with an overdrive pedal?
I haven't really used it with pedals - maybe another short video if I have the time!
Please do! It'll be really helpful for people who use pedals :)
Cheers
kausto j i always used with pedal..work great for budget amp..i think one of best budget amp...built in od also sound great
takes them well even a really cheap OD pedal sound great through it!
Here's a quick, unscientific demo with a selection of distortion / drive pedals... czcams.com/video/4AhHuMj73Dg/video.html
is this battery operated?
This is so cool getting into electric guitar stuff but my moms gonna kill me😂 she loves the acoustic
The two are not mutually exclusive - i'm sure you can win your Mom over!
@@acsguitaradventures4186 my buddy gave me his strat for free a long time ago so I just bought this amp and it came in today, just now learning how all the stuff works!!
@@acsguitaradventures4186 do you know if this amp works with electric acoustic aswell?
@@reecedavidson2745 it does work though it doesn't give the most natural electro acoustic sound. It is of course always worth just plugging in and experimenting - start off by switching off the Drive and use low Gain setting and just play with the treble and bass to find something usable. Then just experiment, even with the drive! You can get some gnarly tones, though maybe not to everyone's taste.
Hi, sorry where did you bought it?
Hi, I got this from the world famous Andertons
I like it. Nice for first a amplifier???
It's a great, cost effective amp and it does sound really good. However, if I was choosing a first amp, I'd look into a digital modelling one so you can get a range of different sounds and effects which will help you find your own tone and know what type of amp you want when it's time to upgrade to something better. That said, an amp like this is simple and easy to use. Thanks for watching!
@@acsguitaradventures4186 I chose a Fender Mustang I V2, which can also play Heavy Metal! So I hope it's good!
@@nu-agegamer3548 the Mustangs are pretty good amps - enjoy!
@@acsguitaradventures4186 Thanks! And for a 20W amp, it was pretty cheap ($140)
@@acsguitaradventures4186 Well, this comment hasn't aged well. The Mustang is turning out to have a shit metal tone. I tried this amp in a Guitar Center, and the distortion sounds WAY better on this little guy.
which guitar are you using?
It was a Gibson LPJ Goldtop (2013 I think)
Got one :)
Do I get this amp or the Boss Katana Mini?
I suppose it depends what you want the amp for. I just wanted a cheap and simple amp that I could get a decent sound from quickly and plug pedals into without getting distracted by the sound choices offered by a modelling amp. Bit if you want something that will give you different tones and effects, a Katana might be a better option.
@@acsguitaradventures4186 Another thing, does this thing metal?
@@acsguitaradventures4186 This amp is cheaper than the Katana mini, are you able to play Heavy metal on the Vox? Or no?
@@nu-agegamer3548 I don't really play metal myself. I would say it wouldn't do an amazing metal tone, it only has treble and bass controls for tone and while it can do high gain sounds I'm not sure it would be great for metal with its tiny speaker. If I had time I'd try to do a video but I'm so busy at the moment. My best advice would be to try one out in a store if you can.
@@acsguitaradventures4186 I just found out that for a bit of a bigger price ($180) I can get a VOX VT20X, which has 11 built in amps, so that one can metal. I might get that if I'm going to buy a flagship amp.
Does it make noise?
On the clean channel with my Strat AmPerf, not at all. It's even impressive how quiet it is...
Could I use this amplifier for a school auditorium or does that require a bigger amp?
Hi El Chapo. I don't think that this would cut it for an auditorium unless it was miked up and run through a PA. It might just stretch to a rehearsal studio in a band situation if the drummer wasn't a hard hitter and you wanted a gritty sound.
+AC's Guitar Adventures ok thank you. Which amp would you recommend for an auditorium
Depends on your budget and how big the auditorium is, as well as the style of music and what other instruments you'll be competing with. I would suggest visiting your local music store and asking their advice. Sorry I can't be of more help than that!
+AC's Guitar Adventures ok thanks
If you can modify this to become a head for something like 2x12 or 4x10 cab, you'll be good to go.
does this amp come with the cable or did you buy it separately?
Hey Nick, I already owned the cable in the video and I've had it for years!
sorry let me rephrase my question. did the power cable that plugs into the wall come with the amp free?
Ah! Yes, it does.
very helpful thankyou
Glad it was of use! Thanks for watching!
How must?😎😎😎😎
6.5" speaker tho? Gonna have to say the nay no to that.
That is the downside. But then it is a practice amp that fits under my bed. I do intend to add a jack to the speaker cable to break out into my Orange 1x12 at some point to see how that sounds.
Someone is selling a limited edition red version on Craigslist near me for $60. I might go ahead and get it anyways even though I dislike speakers smaller than 10".
@@mikeygabbard9268 Despite the small speaker, it sounds like a 10" speaker.
I just bought this and no sound coming out of my amp?
I assume you're sure that everything else works? i.e. making sure that your guitar and cable (and anything else in front of the amp) is in good working order and passing signal). If your amp is faulty, I suggest getting in touch with the retailer and either getting a replacement or a refund. Thanks for watching.
