3 years later and I'm glad I discovered this. This is excellent! One of best AOV/Fusion tutorials out there no matter what 3D software you use! Thanks for putting this together I learned a lot!
Hello, it is a very well explained video. Im having problems on my motion vector pass, i can see from the beauty pass that the movement of the hand on my scene is quick so im expecting a very visible motion blur on its movement, but i dont know why it does not give my expected motion blur? i followed your tutorial and i also added some CustomTool from other tutorial i've watched. Is there something i'm missing on the process?
Hey brother, thanks! I might make an AE version in the future, but it's fairly simple to be honest since the math is the same. Just start the same way as I did with the DiffuseFilter and the DiffuseLightinRaw, put the DiffuseFilter on top and set the Blending Mode to Multiply, then precomp them and call this precomp "DiffuseLighting". Do the same for the GIRaw and put it on top of the DiffuseLighting precomp and set the Blending Mode to Add. And so on, and so on.. :) Remember to set your composition to 32 bit float, the working space to sRGB and linearize the workspace. Let me know if this works out for you.
Thanks Niels, Actually most of AOV compositing tutorials just focus on combining the passes and do some lighting/blending adjustments, but in this tutorial you have explained very well how far we can go with AOV's. Thanks again for your reply
Do you ever do tutoring? I'm compositing an animated 3D object and I'm using TIFF AOV files. I'm following along as I watch your tutorial but for some reason when I get them all plugged up my media out looks like the Normals Map instead of my beauty pass (which is what I want it to look like). Could you perhaps point me in the right direction on this?
Hey man! Make sure you set the one channel boolean which plugs in the normals data, to do nothing on the RGBA channels, but only in the normals XYZ in the AUX channels. Let me know if this works out for you.
a w e s o m e ! i have an issue, when i add my specularlighting AOV, it becomes to bright.do i need to multiply the specularlighting with something maybe? i am doing it in After Effects

Finally a great and well-explained 3D compositing Redshift to Fusion tutorial. Thanks a lot. Love to see more tricks :)
thx Niels! Clear and smooth Tutorial - actually one of the best for Fusion I saw so far.
You just blew my mind rebuilding the beauty. Such a lot of information and tricks, this is amazing! thank you
12:47 this epic tone of your voice ! Really great tutorial thanks a lot for sharing this !
Very interesting tutorial! Accurate and well explain. Thank you Niels!
Finally i understood how to use ao aov
hahaha!! same.
Wow, very descriptive! Thank you!
Very nice
Excellent… Looking for a good compositing basis tutorial for 2 weeks and voilà!!!!!
Really helpful - thanks Niels
finally...you did it
That was a fantastic tutorial, thank you !
Thanks!
brilliant and thankyou!!

Thank you!
Could you explain how to to do the compositing for the same example in After Effects, very nice tutorial by the way

how to use motion vector pass in AE?
You need the RSMB plugin.
Niels Bosch I did tried ramble but it isn’t look right😢😢

i needed to check "linearize" in the AE project settings
