  • I enjoy mining in EVE, mostly solo so the Orca is my ship of choice.

    The Orca has a top spot among my favorite ships due to its sheer utility, though I have only mined in it a few times. I use mine as a mobile base of operations, so I just stick a mining barge in the ship bay along with my explorer.

    When I got my mining Orca is when I started feeling like everyone in High Sec was out to kill me. After dozens of attempted suicide ganks against my Retriever and Procurer that all ended with me alive and their Catalysts/Cormorants dead the Orca was something different. They try to gank you in a barge with a single destroyer... and unless it's a super greedy paper barge there's no way a single destroyer is going to kill you. In the Orca though.... I'd see them scouting me. I'd have my alt passing through nearby systems and see corps that I've made red gathering forces. My Orca was never caught in High Sec, but at the same time I couldn't bring myself to keep using it there. The individual gankers weren't a problem anymore but avoiding the 20+ person fleets that rushed to the system when a whale was spotted was too stressful for what was supposed to be relaxing and laid back time.

      My Orca has spent several thousand hours in the belts in the last 4 years and was never ganked.
      My Mackinaw gets ganked within hours. Gankers always go for the weak ships first.

      How lovely, miners sitting together by the campfire exchanging fairy tales. Uhh you feel haunted while flying an Orca in High Sec, however, you have survived "dozens of suicide ganks", you are a really tough miner, arent you? Maybe you have just not met a ganker worth the company? Especially the sentence "My Orca was never caught in High Sec" made me chuckling, what about giving yourself an award for this achievement? Would suit you well!
      Since you pretend to know exactly what ships are considered "paper barges" and that there is "no way a single destroyer" is capable of slaying a "tanked" barge, you could give me your ingame name and we see in how far your stories are true?

    Great video! I also mine solo on an orca, never fully AFK. Difference is that I don't take chances so even the rigs are tank rigs. It can always happen, but it would take a lot of suicide gankers to take down an orca in high sec.

    I couldn't agree more with this. It exactly what i do on a weekly basis. I can do homework, watch youtube, play activly on my main account, or often play one of my other much loved games. While at the same time, i'm fully engaged in mining on my second monitor.
    However, i do use a second account for this, which is a pure industrial character. This gives me the freedom to fly combat while still mining... win win.

    I prefer my porpoise, 75% of the yield of an orca, but with 1/10th the cost. The value is low enough and the tank high enough to not make it worth the time for gankers. Of course it holds less than an orca, but it stilk hold quite a large amount of ore.

    My fit's close to that, with the exception that I have an MWD (so the big girl can actually get up and go...well, kind of), a drone nav comp ('cause ice drone also too fat) and a couple shield transfers ('cause Orca has a x5 buff to optimals so...why the hell not, right?).

    Hi, I started to play Omega a month ago, this is my second month as an Omega, originally i created my account back in november 2k7 with a 2 week free time, so back then I decided that I wanted to be a miner and then I just trained the skills for doin so, since the game became "f2p" I continued learning the skills I was able to, and spend many skill injectors that I dont remember how I get on said skills, so a month ago and after 3 days of searching on the forums and asking many things about mining, I jumped from Venture to Procurer, and buyed a Retriever 2 days ago, the thing is, in 13 days I could have all the abilities to pilot an Orca, but in 33 days I could pilot exhumers, what do you suggest for a "new player" in this case? it will better for me to wait for exhumers, or do the big jump to Orca?
    P.D: I only mine in highsec and I think I'll goin to stay like that for a good time

    • @delonewolf
      @delonewolf  Před 5 lety +1

      I think i would go for orca and mining drones skills, to get most out of the exhumers you want mining drones aswell so might aswell go for the Orca if it's what you want to fly in the end.

  • @diligante

    I just started playing 1 week ago. Started with Venture and was ok for 1 week. Made around 100 millions. Though I was cool in high sec 0.6 mining in simplicity... but recently... while I was afk and sleeping 13 min per batch of mining... I heared a big "BOOM" ... looked at my screen from my bed and saw my venture being destroyed.. along with my capsule... wow.... and it happend again 4 times in a row by different people.. I never got ganked before.. I was mad... but then, I just bought the Procurer and now I can breath and "afk" in peace. I know I shouldnt.. but I need to sleep.. and play at the same time haha! I'm going to buy an Orca soon. The problem is is "mining foreman" skill... have to wait around 12 days + few more skills before I can even start using it even if I buy it now... urghhh... I know there is the "injector" thing... but that's real money spending... do I want to buy that? hmmmmmm..... tempting..... :)

    • @justinyearing3489
      @justinyearing3489 Před 6 lety +1

      Ronny Sundin when you have a hulk that’s being boosted, mining becomes much more profitable. But remember, hulk will die faster than your proc. It’s a trade off. Less safety for more yield.
      Hulks are more used with corps since the extra safety with numbers and friendlies in a few systems from you will help prevent afk deaths.

    • @justinyearing3489
      @justinyearing3489 Před 5 lety

      @@CommanderM117 i have tried Orca mining as well. Its pitiful compared to even a Mack.
      My corp while i played, i flew an Orca and 2 hulks and a hauler (yeah... it gave me a headache but was making bank) With atleast 1+ other players. The reason being is that a Orca can boost over 33% yield. So it takes 3 Boosted Ships + Orca to equal 4 of the same ship. IE, 4 Hulks or 3 Hulks and Orca = roughly the same mining yield spread.
      But i was making money as well due to that I was providing Hauling services. People jettison their Cargo and i tractor beamed it to the orca, and the hauler Hauled it back. My Corps' Buyback was 85% (so they get 85% of the sale, and they dont have to do anything other than dock and create a contract). But many of my pales sold it to me at 80% so i was making 5% for the boost/hauling.
      It was our way to help mitigate the risk of the Orca popping... i had it happen once. Got scrammed, and couldn't get any backup in time. They were 2 minutes late arriving.
      From that point, we wouldn't bring an Orca out unless we had a PVP Fleet roaming our systems. (Null sec).

    Sadly i cant agree with you on this topic mining is one of the worst and boring things you can do since it reqióuires you to click one button than afk and watch netflix or something while that might be good for the few in the wide view that means less player interaction also means rampant botting since the bot has to click one button and thats it. Now dont get me wrong the orca idea is good i just wish mining in general was more player drine activity rather than press f1 and play another game.
