      1. This land of my fathers is dear to me
Land of poets and singers, and people of stature
      Her brave warriors, fine patriots
      Shed their blood for freedom
      Chorus:
Land! Land! I am true to my land!
As long as the sea serves as a wall
      For this pure, dear land
May the language endure for ever.
      2. Old land of the mountains, paradise of the poets,
      Every valley, every cliff a beauty guards;
Through love of my country, enchanting voices will be
Her streams and rivers to me.
      3. Though the enemy have trampled my country underfoot,
The old language of the Welsh knows no retreat,
The spirit is not hindered by the treacherous hand
Nor silenced the sweet harp of my land.

Not many know that "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" was the first ever national anthem to be played at ANY sporting event.
It happened in 1905 when the New Zealand All Blacks, the best of the Southern Hemisphere played Wales, the triple crown winners and best of the Northern Hemisphere at Cardiff. It was the first time the Haka was done in Wales.
In response Teddy Morgan started singing the Welsh national anthem in spontaneous defiance. The huge crowd picked it up.
The All Blacks said it was mesmerising.
As a result of this one incident national anthems are now routinely played at sporting events.

A friend had recommended that I do so, saying that in the right setting hearing it sung would be an unforgettable experience. Having now done so, I understand a little more the great love the Welsh have for their native land and its history. Let me recommend to anyone who reads this that they listen to "Lift Every Voice and Sing" to understand something of the history of my people.

Hi Massimo, The world knows that Italians are passionate, beautiful, meliflous, singers (and people), and there is a saying in my Country 'Cymru' that, "Welsh Men (and Ladies) are 'Italians in the Rain'". Many of your ancestors walked from Bardi to South Wales to work in the coal mines and later to set up successful Cafes and other businesses, they integrated wonderfully with the native Welsh, Y Cymry. The "Welsh Italians' are much loved and highly respected in Wales, since I believe our peoples have the same values and roots.
