Kannathil Muthamittal is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language musical war film produced and directed by Mani Ratnam. It was based on a short story, "Amuthavum Avanum" by Sujatha Rangarajan.[1] The film stars Madhavan, Simran and Baby Keerthana with Nandita Das, J. D. Chakravarthy, Prakash Raj and Pasupathy portraying other pivotal characters. The film's score and soundtrack were composed by A. R. Rahman, while Ravi K. Chandran handled the cinematography. Mani Ratnam presents the story of a child of Sri Lankan Tamil parentage adopted by Indian parents, whose desire is to meet her biological mother in the midst of the Sri Lankan Civil War. It was released on 14 February 2002.
The film premiered at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival, It also received a strong reception when screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2003.The film received high critical acclaim upon release and went on to win six National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards South, six Cinema Express Awards, seven Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and Best Film awards at six international film festivals.

Tamils are not friendly towards China it’s the Srilankan Government headed by the majority Sinhalese.
Srilankan eelam Tamils are always friend of india and they are always against China. Sinhalese majority only support China. During india pak war also Sinhalese majority government supported Pakistan to land planes in Colombo for fuel support but that time Tamils there strongly opposed it and made a support statement towards india.
LTTE made a big mistake and should not have touched Rajiv Gandhi. As a tamilian I feel for the Tamils but the problem is what Rajiv got them was way more than what they were asking but they killed the golden goose.
Similar to the Palestine issue what they are asking is much less than what they were offered in 1947 .

ASSAD bhai, Im a SriLankan tamil (Eelam tamil). I was born during the civil war in the war torn city Jaffna. We migrated to Germany when I was small kid. But I hear a lot of tragic and painful stories from parents memory and my relatives. My uncle was also part of the freedom fighters like Nandita das in the movie.
Btw. I have a lot of Pakistani friends in Germany and also went to a Pakistani wedding of a good friend.

Maniratnam movie starred by madhavan and simran possibly the most romantic pair, and everyone thoughts that its going to be a love story like "alaipayuthey". But in movie maniratnam did his magic once again and gave a master piece film. He showed the real pain of srilankan tamil that I could feel every time when I am watching this movie. And A.R. Rahman, what should I say wow!

When I was small , this movie was several time airing in srilanka tv channel but I wasn't interested to watch the film. But fortunately now i got to watch this best scene because of you. Since I'm your subscriber for long times, i have been watching all of the tamil related videos. i feel it is the best reaction that you have created among us. I was just 16 years of age when war was ended in 2009 and in my life time our side terrible things wasn't happened but i heard many stories from the elderly that before my birth times how it was difficult living here ...
Being a Pakistani, you could even emotionally connect with this scene like Tamils since both of us have suffered a lot because of the war. I hope the world will be a better place someday ☘

That moment at 10:35 is always the point that I break into tears. That BGM from ARR did full justice for this scene. Hats off to Mani Ratnam sir to direct this movie.
I was young when this movie was released and never knew about the suffering of Sri Lankan Tamil if it wasn't for this movie. Since then I have been keeping myself updated and also have an online friend from Sri Lanka who shared a lot on how challenging their lives are. It is painful though I am not physically there.

Mr. Assad, this is the life we faced in srilanka. I went through the same. My father went to help one of his friend , he never came back. Until today. I cannot explain the pain and sadness. Still now . Like me so many families lost loved ones. Lost their lives. Become homeless. No family .nothing. ruthless leaders of srilanka also army. Doing the same.
