  • Hiking the Stampede Trail safely to Bus 142 and back, was the topic of discussion at this 45 minute long workshop held at the Anchorage, Alaska REI store on Aug 13, 2013.
This is a recording of the presentation (apologies for the video quality) that we are providing due to numerous requests from folks who were unable to attend the class. Hopefully the information will help you get out to the bus and back safely, and help you have an enjoyable trip on the Stampede Trail.
Our Stampede Trail Hiking class was mentioned on the KTVA Channel 11 ten o'clock news Aug 13, 2013: • Stampede Trail Class -...

Rather than changing this place into a tourist attraction, find your own Magic Bus in life...

I believe Jon Krakauer and Sean Penn (in that order) are responsible for Bus 142 becoming a tourist attraction. The point of videos like this is to keep the tourists alive and safe, not to attract them.

Glad you asked. We actually will have t-shirts in October. We were just going to get them for everybody that's gone out with us these last couple of years to start with and see if there was any demand, but we can throw an extra one on the order. Just PM me your size and address.

Such is the travel crowd that locals don't want: backpackers who spend next to nothing but consume a lot, such as expensive rescues, waste disposal, etc.

The bus was recently airlifted to an undisclosed storage location by The National Guard. It's not there anymore!

Would Chris survive, would he have a water life jacket and try to cross like that?

The 2 rivers you have to cross can vary depending on the weather. I would advise to not do it because there isn't anything there except wildlife. And a zillion mosquitoes.

It is www.stampedetrail.info but unfortunately it is (as of Feb 10 2017) currently down. It will be relaunched within a few weeks.
