It’s nothing to be scared about bro. Just prepare yourself by watching youtube videos on how to do it pass your pre-trip inspection and in-cab pre- trip inspection.. also learn the parts. You have some websites you can go on where they have a downloadable slides to learn the parts of the truck on passing your pre trip instructions. Also know what kinda trucks your going to be training on at that trucking school so you can know which slides to practice off of. For me it was freightliner.

I been hauling fuel since 1995 . You can make a living. Just have to keep your head in the game 100% of the time. All mistakes are big mistakes. You drop gas in a dsl tank then by the time it's caught, your company could be on the hook for 17 dsl truck rebuilds. Seen it happen. (I didn't do it).
Don't mean to scare anyone away. It's a good job. just keep focused and after so long it becomes ingrained in you. You do a load ,you forget that load, only load in your head will be the one you're doing.

I've been a road train fuel tanker driver in Australia for 30 odd years and something that really stands out watching US videos is the lack of a company uniform. Companies and the fuel terminals here have a very strict policy with regard to clothing, must be high visibility with reflective tape and most importantly, be pure cotton to minimise static.

If the drops were close and I had mostly Reg, I could stick the tanks, drop with 3 hoses, and re-stick and get papers signed in 25 minutes.

Man you seem pretty young. I’m 23 and haven’t found a career yet. Thought about getting a CDL, but extremely nervous about what some of the driving entails. I see how people drive when they’re around trucks and don’t take them into consideration. But the main thing I’m worried about is backing a trailer up and when turning at a light, I notice a lot of truckers need multiple lanes to turn from and onto. I’m worried that I would get into a wreck. Any tips to ease my mind and encourage me to pursue this career?

If you don’t plan on going to college and tired of “regular” jobs definitely pursue trucking bro. The driving and getting used to the truck will take time but if you can watch a lot videos on backing and truck drivers doing right and left hand turns. It will give you a better perspective. If that tank ever ignites in a crash you won't survive it. If you think you can jog it to safety those tankers will explode an entire city block. As long as you don't crash or get crashed into it's good money. But just know, they blow.. you go.

Thing with gas hauling is they offer a lot of overtime. Many companies here in San Antonio will pay $30 an hour. They don’t start paying OT till past 45 hours and you don’t work more than that. Hauling gas you get around $29 an hour but can work a good amount of overtime. Had a driver tell me once he put in 72 hours.

@Youngtruckerdee bro, a lot of people said TX will take anyone. I live in Texas, and they want you to have fuel experience. How can you find experience if nobody is hiring an inexperienced hauler? On top of that, they wouldn't take my military fuel hauling experience(7 years). Even if you do have experience, they still will train you how they want you to run in their company. 🤦🏿‍♂️

Your procedure is wrong right off the bat. You should ALWAYS be connecting your vapor on the ground side first, and then reversed when done dropping. You’re literally letting vapors freely flow from the truck into the air around you, not safe. Look at my comment as constructive criticism. Stay safe out there.
