Thank you Mandisa, Anthony and everyone else for being real! I thought there was something wrong with me that I prefer dating Asian American men, especially with the black lives matter movement going on a lot of talks at church about unity and racism. I have friends of different races, but prefer to marry my own race so he will understand my culture of growing up with immigrant parents. At the end, his character is the most important. Integrity, loves God, heathy, funny, and can accept a debate/having a strong girlfriend.

Ben Adek Ahhh okay! At first I thought you were saying there was some deeper issue as to why some white guys have an actual problem with protective styles such as box braids. I get where you are coming from about different things that are unique to African American culture such as having to “speak/greet” whenever you walk into your friend’s house, code switching, and the overall different experience African Americans have. I get what you mean by somethings being hard to explain. Thank you for taking the time to clarify!

      @whenniceguysretaliate5619 Před 4 lety

@@benadek6703 Greetings Ben Adek, I believe as human beings we mostly see the surface of life, people and circumstances. However, some people who are able to see below the surface “in the financial world” are called billionaires. But, what do you call people who can see below the surface “in the financial world,” but don’t make any investments? Regret-ers maybe. Nobody really knows all things, without risk, except God (or “the concept of an all-knowing God”, for non-believers). Lastly, Jesus had a “but” situation with Judas, “but” Jesus didn’t quit his ministry or his purpose. On that note, I believe some “but” situations are required for us to grow and/or complete our own purpose in life. So, even if the guy doesn’t understand Black Hair or culture or visa versa, that doesn’t mean it’ll destroy your life or be a hindrance to the marriage. Also, what’s wrong with African-Americans learning another culture or teaching ours? Good example of cultures coming together was when Chinese Restaurants started making fried chicken wings. Then learning about Chicken Fried Rice and Kung Fu movies. Match made in Heaven. On a side note, I don’t think there’s “anyone” who’s qualified to define what Black Culture is. Black Culture, like the different shades of our skin, is as diverse as the different types of Bar-B-Que found in the back yard to the most popular restaurant. Therefore, “nobody” has the right to disqualify anybody as a black person “for any reason.” (aka pulling their Black Card) You should pull yo’ own Back Card for thinking you can. But as humans, I think once we learn to use proper “But” Bias, we’ll be better off. In all seriousness, I think we need to watch our “but” statements and how we use them in life because it makes a difference in our lives and others. No disrespect meant and thanks for the Rely. Hope you and your family stay safe and healthy.

This was real. The women are more open. The men were more specific. Austin's feedback was really honest and encouraged the sense that how you are raised impacts the choices you make. As always I appreciated Anthony's perspective. I would have liked to hear more specifically what kind of black women Anthony was interested in because that can be a misunderstood topic amongst communities. We talk about their race but also I want to know more DETAILS! What shade (light, medium, dark)? What size (slim, hourglass, plus size)? What personality etc. (introverted or extroverted)? The women who said any color I would also like to hear specifics. This gives the audience more insight into how the panel thinks and we didn't get to hear from a few of the people; which would have given more insight. But I must say this is one of the realest conversations yet lol Mandisa and Anthony have such strong personas; it's GREAT!

Lol! this is the second comment I'm seeing from you that is asking for more details about someone's physical 'type'. Perhaps people don't know the details themselves, when someone comes that fits the category then they know. I too, do not know what type of black man I'm into myself and I don't know that these 'types' are an appropriate taxonomy for categorising people, as a lot of people are so multi-faceted. He could've said something more specific based on the women he has dated in the past but I don't think that anyone should look at new people who come into their lives through the lens of past relationships, I don't think that's fair enough.

My husband may not be able to tell you why I wrap my hair at night and sometimes during the day also. However, he is very accustomed to seeing his mother, sisters, and aunts do the same. He sometimes questions why I remove my attractive scarf for a quick run to the store. It makes a difference to know that your husband regards natural things about you as attractive and that it is not forced.

I feel like a lot of black women get too caught up in minor details and miss out on blessings. Many of them would pass over a good man of another race for a not as great black guy just because they're afraid of little things like having to "explain hair". Your hair is just hair, it's not some huge obstacle. In fact, it is beautiful and unique, no other race of people has hair like ours. Many men of all races actually find our hair beautiful, which is why you see many interracial couples that consist of black women with natural hair. Stop passing up a good man just because you don't want to explain having to wear a bonnet to him lol, he'll learn because he loves you! It's not a big deal and we need to break this generational curse of insecurity when it comes to our hair. Black women especially need to expand their options to all men, because there are many amazing men of all races and black women in America outnumber black men by 2 million. Even if all the black men got married today, there would still be 2 million single black women. If you keep your options so limited you may have a very hard time finding a husband and block your blessings.

Thank you for the episode Mandisa!
As a Black woman I have been saying for decades that Black Women should not limit themselves to just dating Black men and should focus more on finding a man after God's own heart as they work towards becoming a Proverbs 31 woman...
and some within the Black community vilified me for saying so...
But...even though I knew racism has ALWAYS been alive and well in this country I didn't realize until 2016 HOW MANY people are openly &/or ignorantly unapologetically racist AND/OR in DENIAL of their implicit biases when (just one example) HUNDREDS of innocent Black men, women, children, and non-binary individuals have been recorded being killed and their murderers walk free and...
I was blind to the levels of coldness and apathy that permeate too many in this nation.
Therefore, while I am still open to dating a man of a different ethnic background than my own I have a LOT more observation of HIM, his FAMILY/FRIENDS, AAAAND a LOT more questions before I can entertain the thought of a long-term relationship.
I've been told "I'm not really Black." because I'm well-spoken, intelligent, don't (yet) have any children or "pretty for a dark/Black girl" too many times and I am NOT trying to raise my future children in such toxicity.
I appreciate how some on your panel say nom-Black men can be taught something they don't know. That is very true and totally makes sense when discussing simple issues/differences. Tying up your hair at night is a one-and-done conversation. IN-DEPTH conversations about White Supremacy/Privilege, School-to-Prison-Industrial-Conplex, Colorism are NOT.
Whomever God has for me to marry is not JUST my future husband (my COVERING) - he'll be the Father of our future children. If God forbid something were to happen to me I need a husband who can walk and talk with them about these difficult subjects AND be able to give our sons (and daughters) "The Talk" that African-Americans give to their children in the hopes that they return to them alive and untraumatized after interactions with (some) law enforcement.
THANK YOU for this MUCH NEEDED discussion - especially amongst Christians.

I live in California, so there are a lot of interracial relationships. I have been attracted to my opposite for as long as I can remember. Being blonde and blue eyed, I like dark hair, olive or brown complexion. When I was younger, a teen, back in the 70s, I did not consider bringing home a black guy because I didn’t think my family would approve. But after I got divorced and was in my 30s, I was old enough to not be concerned or tied to my parents/relatives approval, so I started dating black men, as well as hispanic and white. I’m stubborn and strong, so I refuse to let society dictate those type of decisions. I never found my guy, and have gotten to an age where I don’t want to be bothered anymore, but I am still attracted to my opposite, race doesn’t matter to me.

I'm so mixed, I want someone different than me. I think there tend to be less false expectations when you KNOW you have different experiences and racial/cultural understandings, and I'm kind of tired of people assuming that I'm enough "like them" that we're basically the same and don't need a ton of communication to understand each other's point of view.
    So, the ideal?
Different culture, different personality, different strengths and weaknesses.... But with unique flexibility, patience, similar sense of humor, and willingness to do adventure as a life-style...
I need the even-keel to my passionate opinions, the stable to my ever-shifting lifestyle, the follow-through to my strong-start, and the simple to my overcomplicated. I need someone who can love who I am, balance me out rather than change me, and communicate well through offense and misunderstanding... And I want the opportunity to offer the same.
No doubt, there will be days the very things I need will drive me crazy, but I don't need the one person who's got the same understanding of my racial/cultural context... I need the person who knows they don't understand, but always SEEKS to be understanding through listening and good communication.

I love you so much Mandisa and this conversation is much needed. As for myself being a believer and a black woman I don’t want to be with anyone outside of my race. Before when I was growing up white relationships were advertised a lot and I was like ooooo forget the black man let me be with someone outside of my race. Then I had several encounters with racism and was like hell no! But as I drew and even draw closer to God, I see the stronghold of racism within all races, and that’s causing division. When I understood that God made our color and race intentionally to not be ignored but to show his diversity, I knew I had to look at my life. And similar to what Anthony said, I want to be the change in the black community that demonstrates God’s love!

I'm black, always dreamed of being with a white guy cuz that was what I was attracted to mostly growing up. 1st and 3rd boyfriends were black, 2nd was white. Out of the 3 the white guy was the shortest relationship and the most superficial, though all 3 ultimately were not good for me. That doesn't say anything about the color, but about the guys themselves. I've always been open to whatever color but at this point I'm not as attached to having a white husband like I used to be, though by no means would I be against it. For all I know God could bless me with an Italian or something. Who knows and who cares, as long as he's my gift from God I don't care what wrapping paper He chooses to use✌️

Although, he looked the handsome part and even spoke "Christian-ese" flawlessly, underneath the facade was a total lack of godly integrity, character and honor. Those are the attributes I pay attention to now first versus what shade he may or may not be as my list previously required. Yep. Paid full price for that lesson!🙄

Thank you, Mandisa, for this episode. I loved the honesty of the panel and how each is open to looking beyond race to date. I grew up in a racist family and vowed I would never raise my children to think this way. I dated interracially often as I grew up in my later years in Wash DC and the surrounding area. I honestly thought I would marry a black man, but God had a different plan for me. I am pleased to say he has blessed me with a 39 year old marriage because I listened to HIM and not to my own will. I feel so strongly about encouraging positive race relations, especially now. I look forward to viewing the other episodes you have coming up on this.

Most people initially desire is to date their own. Over time with experience and age, you start to open up about it even if you still prefer your own race. I grew up only being interested in black women. Sure I found other races attractive, but it was just something about a black women. To be honest I wasn’t around other races much. All of my schools even college were 95% black. As I got older and started moving around in different circles, my eyes started to wonder lol! It eventually got to the point where I was wide open. I still loved the sisters, but I was open to other races.

Think it’s natural for you to have a preference for you own race, but if God presents someone different and they fit the bill and you say no idk. I take more of Anthony’s perspective. I'm mixed with black and Puerto Rican (but I look mostly black). I grew up with both cultures of families. I went to a predominantly white elementary school and church. I was never black enough, spanish enough and I definitely wasn't white lol. So very early I had to define my identity by something other than race and today I have a diverse mixture friends from every race, ethnicity, social background, even age. But as for dating my PREFERENCE is black. That's just what I'm attracted to, physically, mentally and culturally. I'm open to whatever if God has other plans. But I do pray for a strong, God fearing black man... I am weak for a bald head and a goatee too but I can compromise on that 😉

On the having to teach another race about your culture aspect, I believe that’s part of the learning about your spouse process. Even within the Black community, there’s other cultural differences that we may have to explain to our partners, from cooking to colorism. If your partner is willing to learn more about you and accept those nuances, enjoy!

I'm African American and growing up I was attracted to white guys. But as time went on I had very few romantic connections with them. So it almost became black men by default. I've also met black men who had problems with my hair. Another story. At the end of the day God's plan may not match yours. So I'm still single and find men of all shades beautiful. That's a lesson I learned. And God makes everything better! Give Jesus a try he'll look good on you! Yassssss!

Racial problems, for believers anyways. Wouldn't be a thing. And shouldn't be a thing. Racial Reconciliation by Voddie Baucham is an amazing word. We need these kind of conversations. I loved when the one gentleman was asked, "would you date a black girl?" You could see the hesitation to answer. We need to realize we are all human, God made us different shades of the same skin color. We all have valid feelings and thoughts, and should be able to talk openly about them without judgement.

Mandisa, I'm a white man and I understand a fair amount about your hair. It all depends on the man. There are many white men who understand a black woman's hair. We like your hair. We understand about tracks, and weaves, and relaxers, and knotting, and cornrows, and bonnets, and blowouts, and natural hair, oiling your scalp, what water and steam do to your hair, and hair types (1a thru 4c). Of course, no man understands everything (regardless of race) unless that man is a hairdresser (which we're not), but many of us understand (or at least would work to understand). And like that one gal said, you can always explain to a man what he doesn't know. Not a big deal, really. For me, I prefer black women, love the thick and voluptuous girls, and love your hair. Forget what some fool on Twitter said to you. Just keep praying for your husband and keep an open mind (interracially). Don't limit yourself because you're nervous or wrestling with insecurities about your hair or talking about it. Btw, your hair is BEAUTIFUL and so are you ;) Peace and love, girl.

I loved this conversation. I have been recently following interracial marriages/couples especially Christian, just to learn a few things. I have learned a few things, they really do not have an issue with our black hair and they are excited to learn about the other race. I will be 40 in a few months next year and I have been waiting and waiting and waiting. But hey Many are the plans in a mans heart but it is the Lord's purpose that will prevail. His timing is perfect and I still believe that the desires that I have come from Him, because He is my Father. So in the past year I have been studying the Jewish wedding traditions and how all that relates to the Bible and I loved it. Has anybody watched Jonathan and Rebecca Weiss wedding on Daystar??Wow...Totally amazing. So I know that when I do get married I am going to have a Shofar, a Prayer Shawl, will get married under the chuppah etc and then my favourite..the breaking of the glass. Just super amazing. So I went from that to desiring to be married to a Devout Christian Jewish man. That's my desire....but if God wants me to marry a Black that's okay as well...

I wish y’all would’ve talked about beauty standards because blonde hair and blue eyes and skinny body is what most men tend to go for! So as a black woman we have an uphill battle for sure. Black women are the least married group. It’s because our hair is criticized or we are overly specialized just because we are curvy. So interracial dating for black women is just harder to come by. I’m saying this as a black women who loves in Texas and has preferred white men because I went to predominantly white schools. Finding a good black man is hard.

I am a white woman with curly hair and I used to like this white this guy from my church. One day he told me that maybe I was still single because I insisted in wearing my hair naturally curly and men like straight hair. I felt so hurt at the time. 5 years later he ended up marrying a black woman who wears her hair natural. Moral of the story, men can have all the ideas about what they think is more appealing until they meet someone they really like and then they realize how wrong they were.
Also, I'm proudly part of the silk bonnet club and my boyfriend already knows that if he marries me he'll see me sleep in a silk bonnet every single night.
