An Athens "Institution" is how Dad described Weaver.

I live near Athens and believe me I've eaten at many of the restaurants and the food is about as Southern as you can get and the hospitality is just as southern as you can get

Been an R.E.M. nut since 1983, always meant to do my Athens GA pilgrimage but somehow I haven't yet done it. It's past high time. Anyway, there was also another BBQ joint
that the band loved which was Walther's BBQ, I think it closed down at some point a number of years ago, but that Walther is in the film Athens GA Inside Out that came out
in 1987 or so, he's interviewed about the band and their love of BBQ and how his restaurant became a mainstay for the indie bands that came to visit as well. Of course Weaver D's
is legendary also. I think R.E.M. also wrote a "commercial theme song" for Walther's which shows up on Dead Letter Office.
