  • This video shows the Top 20 countries by the total annual carbon dioxide emission (CO2 emission) from 1960 to 2017. United States contributed to almost 1/3 of the entire world's CO2 emissions in the 1960s but China and India started catching up in the early 2000.

      Brought into the WTO and given most favored nation status and also given a third world development status.     Very interesting to watch the acceleration/deceleration of output, over time. From 2003/4 the US output slowed to just over 5 tonnes and actually started a reduced output that brought them down, from just over 6 tonnes to its current output, from approx. 2000 forward. Seems like the stats are finally reflecting not only the population, but the degree of industrialization and other factors that add/subtract to a country's output.

But now that we know the impact of our development and what to avoid in order to protect our earth, we should consider new solutions (not easy to find obviously). Because it was not obvious what our development could cause in the former centuries.
      With our technology, we should be able to help developing countries in order to protect the planet.

      Yes, we should be able to help developing countries. But our governments are more interested in sanctioning, supporting coups, insurgents and exploiting said developing countries. Humans might be the only species in our ecosystem that thinks about its future generations, but few care about the future generations of different civilizations/people.

There are several things that obstruct this vision such as cultures or religions but in the end, if we keep this personal behaviour, we are not going anywhere. If our generation is able to think this way, let's hope our children can be even more optimistic.

Also government has been encouraging them to make their own biogas in home, to fulfill their fuel needs, etc.

    This is why if we prompt the USA AND Europe to go as much as HALVE their emissions, we can still only delay the consequences. And remember - more and more countries are starting to get into the category of "developing", characterised by huge growth of industry, the biggest source of emissions by far.
    Fixing the problem in developed countries is a drop in the bucket.

      WeiSS we (Romania) dropped from the list after 1990 because the communism fell and with it all the industry that we had. We practically shut down all production and closed all factories which led to minimal CO2 emissions. It's sad and not worthy of respect! Cheers!

The reduction targets were worse than a lot of developed countries. There's still hope though, since we now have a new Environment minister and new Prime Minister who is a proponent of green energy, including nuclear energy (you know, pretty much the only way to save the climate).

      Do u know why USA water and environment is cleaner than china and India? Bc u dump ur trash to China for the past 3 decades, China helped the entire European countries to clean their wastes! And bc of ur greedies, China has to sacrifice the environment and get all those rare earth metals so American and make more bombs to home the others.

The comparison of carbon emissions per capita is the most fair and reasonable criterion.China's per capita carbon emissions are still very low. The per capita carbon emissions of the United States are very high, several times higher than China's.

    maybe you should compare this chart to one that shows what products are being made in what country , oil refineries , steel manufacturing , industries where a lot of energy is being consumed . oh and everyone is involved wherever you live , as you have certain way of life

      @@SADebre , actually the US has been decreasing quite a lot... I mean heck look at the end the US easily decreased the most out of everyone. From it's height of 5,785,437 in 2005 to it's final score in 2017 5,045,514.. the US basically dropped the equivelent of Germany's emissions in 2017 by then...
