"Samorost" is a word for interesting looking piece of wood, be it a branch, root or anything else, some people use them as a decoration or other things or just collect them
So the game's planets/ships are the samorost?
@@Kumagoro42 yeah, they are. The actual decorations are usually rid of bark, polished, you know, things like that, but the planets and ships certainly are interesting looking pieces of wood 😃

lil bit of trivia - the first Samorost game was made as a final exam/diploma work at UMPRUM aka Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. as I recall from an interview, he got a bad grade for it because it was a game and not an animated movie (he studied in the animation department). the only reason for the bad grade was stuck up professors who did not understand games :)

If you like Samorost you'll definetly love Machinarium! Same vibe, art, and music, but even better made while it's their later game 💚
Agree. I suggest you to look into Papetura as well. It's not by Amanita (though it has some links to them, including their composer), but it shares their artistic vision and gameplay. And it's entirely made by filming actual paper sculptures on camera.

I haven't watched this yet but I'm coming to comment that you playing these games warms my heart. My late mother showed me the first Samorost game ages ago, we played it in browser I think.
She passed away in 2013 from cancer, and I've since played through Samorost 2 and 3, I think I have the app for Machinarium, and I just recently played their newer game Pilgrims on steam.

Samorost was one of the first games I ever played - my grandma showed it to me and it became a tradition to play it and other Amanita games every christmas. Really rad to see one of my favorite gamers play this strange little game. Thanks for all the lovely content you put out :)

Yeah, it was so surprising but very welcome to see her play these old games. Machinarium is totally worth it, too. And Botanicula.
A similar recent game is also Papetura - it's Polish, not Czech, but the music is by Amanita Design's composer Tomáš Dvořák and the visual style is similar, in that case it's all made with actual paper puppets and sceneries.

Seeing this early 2000s type of game style after so long makes me sooooo nostalgic, I used to play similar looking games in computer lab or after school in elementary school
I used to play these games ALL the time. It was one of the first games I paid for online and I remember knowing I was going to be ripped off and having to try it anyway... It was absolutely not a ripoff and I love them so much.
Samorost 3 is one of my fav games EVER! It’s so stylized and has an amazing soundtrack! Please play that next!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Polukonzerva literally means "Half-Preserved"(marinaded(?)). You can make conserves from anything: starting from mushrooms to all sorts of meats. Canned ones are usually sold in supermarket, but I remember my grandma always making her own and bashing the supermarket ones :D I think I remember this particular brand was popular during my childhood in my country. Is this a common ex-soviet country experience or am I tripping?

"Konzerva" means "can." Like the kind of can you store food in. The prefix "polo-" indeed does mean "half." So it's more like "half-can."

This game is just so undeniably czech-ly wierd. From appliences so old they move themselves by shaking so much, making kompot from space pears, the taxi driver and peeing on the fire, all the way to drugging the poor slug with opium. Love it
The style was so unexpected that it gave me a funny day. Smoking moss, that’s a new trend for some people I’m sure 😹💚

Always loved the vibe of these games and often listen to Samorost 3's main theme. Such an amazing song.
The Samorost 2 soundtrack is one of my favorite albums ever by one of my favorite musicians. I've always meant to check the games out but didn't get to it yet. So glad I could watch you play them!
This is similar to the game Tiny Echo, a 2D point-and-click where you deliver letters to strange spirits (also beautiful art style). I highly recommend it since you've been playing games similar to this lately!

So funny, I’ve never heard of this game before, but watching it just kept saying to myself “why does this remind me so strongly of Chuchel? They look nothing alike.” Yep, same developer, and same method of doing random things until the story progresses. Great playthrough Gab 🙂
Botanicula from the same dev is also a great game! It has extremely cute graphics and even cuter puzzles. I think it will be a very nice game for a chill stream in the future.

Watching this video reminded me of Mateusz Skutnik's style. Not his submachine games, but the ones like, Where is 2020 and whatnot. I would love to see you play the Submachine series, Gab! I'm sure you'd really enjoy them

I have a really good feeling that gab would love machinarium by the same devs. One of my favorites as a kid such a cute love story puzzle game
These games bring back so many memories, when i was a kid and started playing videogames i always went to websites full of flash games and there i found this, i thought it was really interesting and cool, although i never played the full version of samorost 2 since it wasn't free. The nostalgia is real! And btw if you like the escape the rooms kind of games i think you should check out the submachine series, they are super interesting and have this creepy vibe, i also played them a lot as a kid, since i didn't know how to pronounce the name i always called them "the mysterious games"

You need to play Botanicula, it's another of these Amanita, it's just as adorable and it's a proper full length game. It's beautiful!
Game suggestion: In Nightmare (It seems a little little nightmares inspired with child protag and creepy enemies) If havent played it myself but it seemed like a good match for this channel and this game didnt get to much coverage yet.

i've not finished watching yet (so if you mention it later on im sorry) but i want to write before i forget. if you liked this you should really try "machinarium" its by the same developer and in similar style and is gorgeous and is a bit more about puzzles and minigames. one of my favorite games of all time an absolute masterpiece.

I could never go spelunking. I have claustrophobia and a fear of being underground. Plus I read an article about someone who went spelunking and got himself wedged in too narrow of a gap, upside down, and they literally couldn't get him out. He passed away trapped there.

You’ve mentioned many time that coffee doesn’t really effect you much. And you can fall asleep easily if you just relax. Definitely look into narcolepsy. You might have it.

"Samorost" is a Czech word that means somone who grew up without too much parental or family control. :) "Samo" means alone, "rost" (růst, vyrůst) means grow up.
