Freddie did this song on only one take. What you hear on the album is the only take.
Best male singer of our time, and easily one of the very best ever.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written by Brian May with a few contributions from Freddie. I can’t tell you the amount of covers that have been done with this song & I’ve come to one conclusion …. Nobody should sing this song except Freddie!!! A dying man’s declaration that “the show must go on”. 👑💪💪

I agree. Those that cover it are young...with a full clean healthy voice... not venturing to the end of their time...unlike Freddie. And he STILL had that amazing voice while dying. That's the difference.

If I can give an opinion I totally disagree that this historical anthem is only his.
I think that this song is written as a message from a music legend that everyone listened, to say something like a dying person to everyone else, maybe I'm too positive sometimes but I think we should all apply the message of this song to our lives when a problem paralyzes us. "Show must go on" no matter what happens, even if you're dying...
I won't stop singing it when I feel stuck, even if I sing it horrible.
If I can recommend Dimash's version for you all to listen to, it is one of the versions that I like the most and although it does not have the same meaning, it does convey emotions, which is what makes people move.
      Thanks for your content.
Much encouragement and greetings from Spain.

@@DavidAlvarez-xl9yc Thank you for your comment .. when I listen to Freddie’s vocals I am reminded of his courage to “go on” and continue to make music! I have heard other artist’s renditions of The Show Must Go On .. but Freddie’s emotions are felt in his vocals!! Agree that the message is positive .. so I guess the song can mean many things to many different people! 🙏🏻 Thank you David for your insight! 🙏🏻

To me, the most autobiographical line was: "My make-up may be flaking but my smile still stays on". That was true. No matter how ill Freddie felt, he never grumbled to anyone or sought sympathy of any kind. It was his battle, no one else's, and he always wore a brave face against the ever-increasing odds against him.[13]
    - Jim Hutton - 1994
so many times concerts have been difficult but the fans wouldn't know
Live Aid has gone down as a legendary performance but his Dr told him not to do it
he later said it was like gargling with glass
he realised after their last tour 86 something serious was wrong beyond normal fatigue and muscle pain
he told the band he was in agony and he was fkg done with touring
the fans who came to see them would have no idea
he damaged his leg, found acompromise how to finish a few songs not to let the fans down then got medical help
so many examples and it's not just Jim saying he didn't complain or get angry and so on everyone has said it

So much emotion, so much will to live, never surrending, just living at the very best he could doing what he loved the most, play music, sing, and share it with us. Freddie was unique, a remarkable human being, a sparkling soul . Every day missed, never forgotten, forever loved as the person, the musician, the LEGEND 💛💛💛💛👑👑👑👑

Just say it, I know you want to... THE best band of all time. It took me sometime, but the legacy Freddie and Queen left behind is unbelivable. They Will go down in history as the greatest. Of top 100 artists on Spotify for monthly listeners there is only TWO "classic artist/band". Queen and Michael Jackson. Queen is the #38th most streamed on Spotify every month with almost 38 million listeners. And Michael I think is around 25 million, dont remember excactly. If I go out of this and check I have to write it all again. But those Are the only once. No Beatles No Elvis. And all respect to them, but Queen is Queen and Will forever be the reigning monarch. In 100 years they Will talk and teach about Queen in school.

Just thinking about when Freddie sang this song, these lyrics, his battle, it is a great message to all, facing many different circumstances. Freddie led the charge during a time when it was not necessarily popular to do and the tabloids were after him constantly. This band, tip top of my list and for many reasons. ❤️

Freddie was too ill to do a Video at this point, so it's a compilation. The song is a masterpiece, no other word will do. It's by Brian, so doesn't directly Express Freddie's thoughts on his rate, but of course it took on that meaning.

Bruan later polished it up and added butterfly wings did the demo

But they finished the first verse together and had the theme and lyrics for the rest of the song

Great reaction, thanks. I just saw a recent interview with Brian where he stated that he wrote this song with Freddie. Yes, the idea for the song was Brian's but he made Freddie help him write it. Normally, they didn't talk about the meaning behind their songs as a sort of unwritten rule but with this song, he said he and Freddie discussed the meaning behind every word. I gathered it was a way for them to talk about the future of Queen without talking about the stark reality of what was happening. Did anyone else watch that interview? It was a recent one but I can't remember if the initial purpose was for his book release or for celebrating Queen's 50 years. He actually did several recent interviews.

You noticed the high note at "on with the show." Something like the holy grale for tenors is to reach the "high c". Freddie matched the "d" at this point quite effortless, being so ill that he had to sit during the recording. Isn't he just an impossible guy?

Brian has said he was expressing the band’s fears for their future as they braced for the coming loss of Freddie. & Freddie never once stopped wanting to sing.
The band really believed they were done. And for John, it was the end.

An absolutely beautiful song. Freddie gave his all to sing it. I'm looking forward to seeing Queen in November in Denver and San Francisco. It may be the only time I will ever get the chance. No one can replace Freddie and Brian and Roger didn't even try to. They found a singer that could sing the songs in the original key they were written and they really like him so much that they have been with him for 12 years now. Adam Lambert isn't Freddie but he puts on a great show and he's really likeable. I started listening to him over a year ago and the guy can sing. So excited to see Brian and Roger and the musicians they have chosen to work with to tour!!!

Brian fans must hate me but he infruiates the heck out of me
As far as i can tell although brian did more work on putting it together and finishing it off it was very much his and Freddie song
someone posted a link lower down of a video where Brian says
'we' (him and Freddie) frashed out the lyrics
Brian later thought of the lines soul painted like the wings of a butterfly
    he then did the demo
we didnt discuss the lyrics we new the meaning
which is pretty much what he said in the express interview
spent the afternoon together solidified the first verse,Freddie wasn't well but I had enough material to finish it
I added soul painted like the wings of a butterfly
'finished' mapping it out which implies they had started it and had atleast the melody?
    he put the demo together
what I dont understand is if he did all the composition himself why he set it so difficult when Freddie was ill,Brian said he could only sing it in falsetto and it's difficult as you need a lot of breath control as it keeps climbimg
or Freddie was involved with the initial composition then Brian realised how hard it would be to sing
but if he was doing the demo he could have set it easier
so thats not making much sense to me
    but freddie nailed it!
wiki but I cant find what interview it came from
I sat down with Freddie, and we decided what the theme should be and wrote the first verse. It's a long story, that song, but I always felt it would be important because we were dealing with things that were hard to talk about at the time, but in the world of music, you could do it.[9]
    - Brian May - 1994
but I've seen more recent interviews of Brian playing down freddies involvement in the song
