  • Thanks to Canon Test Drive, I hired the Canon RF 85mm f1.2. I thought I would try it out over the Holiday period. As amazing as this 85mm F1.2 is, I don't think I can justify the £3,000 it cost, for a lens that would be used sporadically.
In any case, here are my thoughts, and some sample photos

I got my 85mm right before Christmas for $500 off and an additional $200-$250 worth of extras thrown in (a nice Hoya variable ND and polarizer). I've been buying my RF lenses refurbished from Canon and this deal beat even that one so I couldn't resist. I absolutely love it! Though the lens came out almost five years ago, I know it will be with me for many years to come, as it will outlive my R5 and C70 and future cameras I'll own. Hope to sell my EF 1.2 to a friend. Thanks.

Sounds like a great deal, and it is a great lens for sure! Thanks for commenting

I'm on Sony so don't have an 85/1.2, but IMO it's totally worth it. The DoF is just awesome, however I sometimes prefer the look of the old FD which is lighter and I picked up for €500 a while ago.
Btw f2 to f1.2 is over a stop, not 0.8, but even a full stop comparing to an 85/1.8 lens is massive. 85/1.8 lenses are pretty boring.
