For real. Feels like the final boss of mastodons style of blending all the best genres of rock and metal. Also the way it was mixed and mastered sounds perfect not too polished. Has some punch to it.
The album is mainstream garbage. They are a shell of their former selves.

This series is great.
After a gazillion listens to the entire album since release day. I still hear new things in the background of songs I didn't hear before. A layer here, there etc. This album for me is my absolute favorite by them musically. Love the entire catalog. But there's something about this latest one. That shot it up to my personal #1 Mastodon album. The writing, soundscapes, lyrics = immaculate. Everything is just pure perfection to my ears.

Eyes of Serpents at around 1:00, I'd recognize it anywhere. Definitely my favorite track on the album, Brann's vocals and the lyrics are so beautiful, and the music is just incredible. First time I heard "I don't want to leave you hear alone among the wind and weeping" just tore me apart, and then the following verse felt like Troy was singing exactly what I've thought and felt from previous as well as very recent losses. This whole album just hit different, very cathartic for me, and for that I'm grateful. 🖤

@@MisterGreenw00d Seriously, such a beautiful song, and the rest of the album is still killer and I think has something for every Mastodon fan. Lost my oldest niece Aug. 2020, she was like my little sister and one of my best friends so the themes of loss and grief really resonated with me. Another favorite of mine for the same reasons was "Had It All". Troy's anguished vocals had me in tears.

My older cousin was like a big brother to me...he was really into hip-hop and I had just found Mastodon....we never quite saw eye to eye on music....If he was alive today and could hear this masterpiece of a track...and this overture of an album................................................................Thank you guys for so much for making this

Kind of cool and worth noting that Brann appears to have tracked the drums on his regular Tama Starclassic birch Bubingas. Seems like usually he plays whatever the studio has. They’re wonderful drums so it’s great to hear them on the album.

Such a great record. And yes so “layered” as Troy says. I’ve listened to it probably ten times all the way through and I hear something new every time. And it’s so sonically and stylistically dynamic. 5/5 baby dinos!

Been a Mastofan since 2018-ish. So glad this was the album I was here for the release of. As said in the video: Brent's solos are amazing on this album! Troy seems to be trying out some new vocals which is amazing! Brann is killing it on the drums and singing beautifully as always! Bill with those riffs that act as that amazing glue to fit all those pieces perfectly together! Everyone was on their A-game with this one. Even the album art. Everything being in greyscale (and all that detail) minus the gold in the band logo is genius! Instantly tells the listener that this album is dark and emotional (the grey), but also mysterious and exciting (the detail and gold respectively). All in all: great lengthy album from a great talented band.

"Troy seems to be trying out some new vocals". Check out his work with Gone is Gone, I honestly think he's just applying to Mastodon what he developed with them. Some of his best vocals.
@@chronic_johnson_a.r.a.b for sure hear alot of gone is gone influences! Even with some more ambient sound like on Dagger give that gone is gone feeling, but imo better, just because I like Mastodon's sound a little more.
Started listening to Mastodon in 2003. They are complete garbage now and have given up on their original vision so they can write mainstream garbage and make money.

Each new release takes elements from the last and builds upon them, while finding their own identity just as well. I am truly inspired and encouraged when I watch you guys do your thing, making no compromises and playing the music you want to hear. That's what it's all about.

I fucking love this album. At first listen about 3 songs grabbed me straight away but by the 3rd-4th listen the entire album has got me. I luv it!! Only got into you guys just earlier this year with Emperor of Sand and now Hushed and Grim is blasting in the car most days. Incredible tonal tapestries of epicness.

I love that we’re getting a look into the construction of this album but I wish it was more of an in-depth look into its creation like what they’ve done with previous records. I NEED MORE SAUCE 🤘🔥
I find myself intentionally not wanting to listen to it after awhile. I inevitably grow tired of even my most favorite of albums and I don't want that to happen to Hushed and Grim. I love it SOOO much. I''ll wait a week and it's like I'm hearing it for the first time. This is an amazing album on so many levels. Can't wait to hear it again for the first time in a few days!!! Thank you gentlemen, can't wait to see you on the road, again :)

Another great album. Sometimes bands release a masterpiece and then you see a decline. These guys keep pumping out more n more great stuff, it has the mastodon sound but it evolves and has those differences that make it stand out from every album. That’s pretty amazing. Mastodon is a dangerous band, man, lol. 🙌
