That pedal Steel makes all the difference. The Saxophone is great and thankfully doesn't become 'Too Much', all Marks fills are perfect and then Paul Franklin on the Pedal Steel is complete perfection. Not just his solo but the shimmering notes he has in the Pre-chorus and the chorus fit this song like a glove. No instrument, not on the original release, has ever fitted a song better than a Pedal Steel and Your Latest Trick.

Can we also just acknowledge the contribution here by the great Paul Franklin, widely acknowledged (and rightfully so) as one of the finest pedal steel players in the world. Knopfler was a huge admirer of his playing and invited him into the lineup for this tour & showcased his amazing talents throughout the “On The Night” live sets. His playing complemented DS’s repertoire beautifully. Case in point….

Sometimes I can't stop listening to this song, not only because it is great but it also reminds me of the girl I like. She's without any doubt the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my entire life and no one can imagine how much I want to be with her.
