- Upon seeing a horrific sight, James and the other engines learn a dark story from Thomas, about an unnatural engine that roams their railway. Gordon is the only one who dismisses this.

I rate this as one of my favourite HOTR stories, up there with Great Waterton, Left Behind, Maura-Liath, and Caledonian Twins. Those are all top-tier stories, and I think this one matches them. Creepy. Not terrifying, just weird and creepy through it.
I agree ps. today is my 16th birthday
Same
It was daytime while I was listening to this and really scared me but it is one of my favorite stories along with the tenders, great waterton, and the mine story
Can i ask. you see the half engien as she was aproying Gordon. If you listen close, you we'll notes that she is shoutingh fire.
Maybe you could do a video on some of the stories you know as a Halloween special
At first, I thought this Half Engine would be a lot like Darth Maul. However, it turns it she's kinda more like Two-Face. Creepy...
I'm surprised that Thomas of all engines would tell a story like this. Obviously he did tell the story of Duke the Lost Engine but that was more heart warming. I love how the half engine fades in during the video.
I thought it'd be a nice change of pace. Edward was going to be the storyteller originally, but that seemed a little too cliche.
@@ncopictures7182 Hi there, NCO Pictures, I love your story of the Half Engine.
I’d say the ghost engines iterations
Is there going to be apart 2
I think Edward should have told the story of Duke
Jesus Christ even without a jump scare it’s very terrifying
I can just imagine the conversation Gordon would have with Thomas when he got back to the sheds.
My god that was a really terrifying story. A half engine killing others in both pain and anger, the half engine looks like it was one of Stepney's siblings.
what is the sound of the half engines shrieking 9:30
Nickolas, are you going to do a remake of this?
Please Thomas&PokemonFan1997 Can you recreate this adaptation? It would be awesome to see this.
@@JRG115M Permission will have to be obtained as Narrow Gauge mentioned last year in a community post it maybe unlikely but I would be interested to see the story adapted
@@Trainboy11 It's the headcrab zombies from Half-Life, if I'm not mistaken.
Man, that was really chilling. The use of the Half-Life 2 zombie noises for the Half-Engine's shrieks were brilliant though because if you reverse the zombie screams, you can hear that the headcrab victim is still alive and begging for its suffering to be ended. Much like the Half-Engine living a life of suffering and even in "death" (or maybe she is still alive) she cannot find peace.
funny how there’s a half involved in HL2 and this odd engine.
This has to be one of the most horrifying stories to date Gordon was lucky that his coaches were halved not Gordon
I think the half faced engine was feeling particularly merciful that night
Ikr, in these Thomas horror stories, usually it’s Gordon who had to pay the price
Love your adaption of this story ❤
I guess the reason why Gordon was spared, because The Half Engine olny after those who were making fun of her/mocking her appearance. Gordon said he didn't believe the story/her existed. She charged him as a warning.
The idea and concept of an engine with half a smokebox door on its face are really scary in my opinion. It certainly gave me a chill thinking about it.
Also, love the fact that Thomas is the one telling this kind of story. And being sensible for once. Which is something we rarely ever see these days.
Dude, it is so cool hearing one of my biggest inspirations from the old days of Thomas CZcams like one of my stories! And yeah, Thomas's mature side isn't seen often which is a darn shame. Him being the sage with the tales was something I debated on but wasn't sure if it would work. Evidently it did!
This was a great story! I was expecting the Half Engine to be one of those loaned Midland/Furness Railway engines so her being a terrier was something I did not expect!
Strangely I never did give that a thought. I originally kept the engines basis up to interpretation, but I think a terrier works narratively speaking since it's an engine from Thomas's past.
@@ncopictures7182 I mean, it does make sense since Thomas worked for the LB&SCR before coming to Sodor and stepneys class was also built by the company. So it’s possible the half engine was one of Thomas’ cousins.
I've heard stories about unnatural engines on Sodor before, but this might be the creepiest one so far. I can't even imagine how an engine would end up with only half of a face, or what kind of internal pain that defect would have caused her. Terrifying...
czcams.com/video/J_Jq-6s9GnM/video.html
I found the good one
Very black indeed
Maybe she got mutated or something?
I though it was literally half an engine
@@sabertooth3studioshq838 my personal theory: when they are designing her face, she somehow came to life before her face are complete.
Man, these supernatural stories are great. Even I got shivers from this one
Ladies and gentlemen, another HOTH masterpiece. This is particularly scary! The sound effects and choice of music tracks complemented the dark tone of this engine, what a unique concept! Right in the North Western's beginnings as well. Thoroughly enjoyed this piece. Bravo
💀🌙✨
Tbh, my expectations were split in half after watching this. No pun intended
That was really terrifying to listen to! I enjoyed it a lot, very well written and great narratation! You and NCO Pictures did very well! Looking forward to seeing the rest!
this stories was so thrilling, despite i had a few goose bumps about it, this story was one of the greatest ghost story along side something in the mines, and the truth about scrap. anyway, nice job on the audio story Narrow Gauge.
HOLY...... MY GOD! This story was TERRIFYING! The half engine moans and shrieks were HORRIBLE!
An amazing story! I can't wait to hear more of them! I wonder what the next story will be.... heheh guess I'll find out
this has to be the greatest Thomas horror story ever.
Is this what inspired you to create Tales from the Scrap Siding
@@fanofeverything30465 you could say that narrow gauges horrors of the Rails inspired me. Back during the second season is when I actually started creating my own audio stories.
@@22Tesla I know I'm currently in the process of getting through the whole playlist Will there be a Part 3 this October
@@fanofeverything30465 there will
Jesus, this is the more SCARIEST one so far!
James and Gordon need therapy...in fact, they ALL need therapy!
Ooh boy... what a story. I think this definitely is the scariest or even most deranged concept I’ve seen in a Thomas ghost story. Beautifully told. Your work never ceases to impress.
Wow! That was spooky! The first of the final half of the series is off to a great start! I am excited to see the next one, very soon!
Chilling as always and never fails to raise goosbumps. When the ghost started appearing on screen at 4:53 i actually thought i was going mad seeing things. Well done man... goddamn this was disturbing, but a great tell none the less.
absolutely amazing! did not expect the half engine to be that terrifying! when she popped up i had the shivers. Definitely a stand out from your recent horror stories.
Same 😂
Stepney has a lot of brothers and sisters that have suffered terrible fates. This is truly a well done chilling story.
They don't invite her to family reunions.
ngl that was one of the spookiest stories i've ever heard, send chills down my spine and made my blood run cold, awesome work Narrow Gauge. can't wait for the next one
What's unnerving is the scrap engine at the start, you at first think it might be the Half Engine, but when you learn what she really is, that just makes it creepy. How long has that scrap engine been there?
And how did people just forget about it, sitting on a siding somewhere for years?
Again im a huge fan and love your stories my favorite is .,...........GREAT WATERTON
That’s my favourite too 🤩
Mine was Rusty And The Boulder
Well this is a story that I didn't "half" expected. It really scared me "half" to death. Well done here. I can't wait to see the other "half" of the other stories here.
Nice.

@@ItsTrainBoy Anytime and really love your comentary on the day out with thomas vids and can't wait for the next installment XD :D
I cannot wait!
I love your stories and I can’t wait for another
That was an unexpectedly chilling tale. It's a shame when someone suffers a deformity. They almost inevitably get bullied and shunned for it. That said I have to wonder what the half-engine looked like. Also what was the source of the engine's screams? It almost sounds like Bill Faggerbakke (Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants).
The screams are taken from Half Life 2 zombies. Fittingly, if the zombie screams are reversed, you can hear the tortured cries of the headcrab victim pleading for someone to help them and end their suffering.
Holy crap, this was soo good. The wait was definitely worth it.
THAT GAVE ME CHILLS!!! OMG that was amazing Narrow!!! Another great job as always
This is my favourite horror story the half engine scare’s me I’m gonna have nightmares of that scary engine 😰
Ahh these stories are such a treat beautifully chilling work as always
This is probably the darkest episode of HOTR and I love how Thomas was the one who tells the story of the half engine were as you expect an older character like Edward to tell it Thomas is the one who does and it kinda holds more weight to Thomas not liking Stepney because the half engine is a terrier and so is Stepney so Thomas probably doesn't want to be associated with terriers ever again
I apologize for the late reply, I've been busy lately. With that being said, this was a wonderful story. Well-written and surprisingly horrifying. I like how an E1 was used aswell, the class barely gets attention. Great work!
This concept is... Interesting, is it like, an engine gets brutally cut in half in a horrific way??
That was a brilliant episode, can’t wait for more 😁👍
This is the scariest story yet! Good job on making it!
Wow this is definitely my favourite HOTR 4 episode great job Joe 👍
I love ❤️ the stories you create. So creative. I can’t wait to hear more.
this is absolutely bone-chilling to watch, amazing work as always
9:24 that screaming is chilling
That was really scard and terrifying to listen to! I enjoyed it a lot, very well written and great narratation!

I remember watching this first time and holy sodor did it send shivers down my spin, and I can definitely say it would be up there with ghost train.
This was the most distributing story you have ever told. Amazing job in your part . And the scramming from the half engine was horrific.
Oh my god. This is indeed the most terrifying story in your collection.
I love your stories. This is very exciting.
Keep ‘em coming I love these dark stories of Thomas and friends
Wow. Thia tops Great Waterton for pure terror. A sentient engine with only half a face that meets an untimely end and haunts the rails with that half faced deformity
That was really scard and terrifying to listen to! I enjoyed it a lot, very well written and great narratation!😨
This was.... terrifying I LOVE IT
Instantly one of my new favorites right here, especially with that really good adaption that came out recently
This was great this almost tops the great waterton story and also this gave me shivers so God dang this was a great story
Two questions.
1) How did Gordon escaped getting sliced in half, but not the coach?
2) Were those screams from the Half-Engine recorded by you?
I don't know how to answer question 1 but to answer number 2, those screams came from the zombies in Half life 2. I recognized them from anywhere.
In honestly, I never did decide on an explanation for that. Mostly did it for dramatic effect, and also because I didn't have the heart to kill Gordon, lol. I guess it was the engines way of saying ''Say I'm not real one more time and you're next.''.
okay the flood theme really set that encounter with gordon so well
this is really good Narrow Gauge i’m impressed as always also i learned that you won’t be making any more HOTR after 4B i’ll be pretty sad since i really enjoy HOTR
Finally, a Horror of the Rails story featuring Thomas himself!
Well this terrifying. I can't imagine if someone picks this up for adaptation.....
Brilliant job as always joe! Your ability to capture the tone and feel of scenes through your sound design never ceases to amaze and inspire. Keep up the good work!
Bro, I put this high up there with Great Waterton, Left Behind, and Caledonian Twins. Very great job.
Great story and actually felt alittle scared when the image became the poor dear shrinking into the night. And the 11:44 i see her fireman and laugh alittle
Absolutely stunning work. I'm excited for more.
Anyone else reminded of how Ambulon got snuffed in the IDW comics? Cuz i got those kind of vibes
It's like the Half-Faced Girl of the Old Pali Road in Hawaii.
I just imagined a follow-up story where Rosie told the story to some other NWR engines, then Emily told her off, only for her to encounter the half-engine.
This is one of the few stories that actually made me scared and it really shows
Stellar work narrow gauge
Now Narrow Gauge is gonna give me nightmares until the end of the week.
James is gonna need some therapy lol
I think i understand what Fantina(the half engine that i give name to her and she's stepney's sister) was saying:"HELP ME!/HELP!,I CAN'T SEE!" there ya go everybody in the commits
Not a bad name choice! The engine will (officially) be nameless. An engine so defective it made Brighton Works break tradition and not name her, lol.
And you're not far off. The sound effects were from the zombies in Half Life 2, who say similar stuff.
@@ncopictures7182 Oh ok.
This was awesome, the screaming really had me shook lol
I ain't going to lie but I do like seeing your horror of the rails story's mainly because I actually imagine what some of the parts look like if they were in an adaptation by someone
These are so good please keep up the good work 👍
This one was legit creepy, very well done.
Goodness it's not even Halloween yet
Really sold the horror vibes on this!! Also could i please get a link to the doc of the story?
In the beginning with the Haunted Henry theme I couldn't hear anything you said until it ended
Wait never mind my SoundCloud started randomly playing
"YABBA MY ICING!" I think I've heard this sort of noise before...
I think the thought of the half engine curdled my stomach. Poor James
And poor Gordon!!
Whoa, I might have to leave the light on after hearing that one.
9:10 Why am I picturing a Headcrab Zombie just stumbling around on the railway line making pained noises?
Fantastic video
The psychotic screaming scared the dickens out of me *(shaken up).
What a horrifying and and excellent story. Great work.
If anyone wonders why this is scary at all, let's put it this way: If you were an engine who couldn't move without a crew and can't just "leave" the track without derailing. You would be terrified if a ghost engine came barreling towards you.
that's why I find these ghost stories quite unnerving, just imagine it from the engine's perspective and you'll understand.
I saw the fan art on Twitter of the Half Engine and it made the story way more unsettling.
I'm ether thinking it's an engine thats like part engine and something else (like half engine and half wolf or something) or an engine that was cut in half .
Sounds an awful lot like Darth Maul...
@@DarthWill3 the guy from Star wars?
@@sabertooth3studioshq838 The very same.
@@DarthWill3 right
I can believe Gordon almost died and he is so lucky to alive from half engine!
He may have been spared but his coaches were not so lucky
@@OptimusPrime2471 well all of the coaches were spared exept the first class coach which is the one behind Gordon's tender
One of if not the creepiest Thomas story I've ever seen
Jesus Christ that screaming sound scared the SHIT out of me!
once you have played half life 2 or its episodes or Gmod it isn't as frightening
I love this. Like, seriously. A lot. More please!!
One thing is certian,Gordon own a massive apology to Thomas, Thomas did warn him but Gordon refuse to lisen and now look what happen, Gordon encounter the Half Engine.
Gravemind worked perfectly for Gordon’s encounter
is no one going to recognize the use of the Gravemind theme from Halo? No? Well, I will. Good mix, helps the story a lot. Also a nice story on top of that.
This is My Scary and Horrifying Story I Never Heard . Dear God Poor Gordon I'm So Sorry for Him . 😞
I’m very interested in what exactly went wrong with her construction for that to happen!
Nothing a little flex tape can't fix!
@@ncopictures7182 true
JESUS CHRIST!!! I'm literally going to have nightmares for this.
Jesus christ that flood music is terrifying. I think I need to ask the Arbiter to bring his flamethrower.
That was pretty frightening
