  • “Our customer service people are fluently bilingual,” says Anne Fradette-Brunet after her bakery received an anonymous complaint from Quebec’s language watchdog, the OQLF, that staff did not speak or serve a customer in French. Swidda Rassy reports.

    Can you imagine forcing people to speak a language? I feel like we are back in the 1800s how this is allowed to go on in Canada I'm just still shocked.

      Imagine living in your country where your culture originated from, the only place in the world where this culture exists and where you grew up your whole life, and you increasingly can't live in your language/culture anymore and have to switch to the language of the people who conquered you, ruled over you and treated you as an underclass even though you were the majority for centuries.

    This whole bill in Quebec is a joke. Not even France has a bill like this and their country's native language is French.

      Similar situation happened to him when the LORD guided him to fly to Montreal by plane (as the eagle) ... He opened a store selling basket. It is a prophecy recorded in the Bible thousands years ago.
      From the Bible (KJV)
      Deuteronomy 28:5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
      Deuteronomy 28:49 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;
      Deuteronomy 28:50 A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young:

      France has "La loi toubon" which is pretty similar. Are you sure you know what you're talking about?

    I have been to this Patisserie/Bakery and it is by far the BEST I have ever encountered. Respectful in BOTH Languages., GREAT Service and quality at all times!!! We spend $650MM CAD in 2023-24 Budget for this really??? When we have shortfalls in the Education, Health and Infrastructure. They have Website, Signage, etc all in French and English. Why does it have to be so extreme ? Can we not have both languages exist. Every other Province respects signage for ALL Canadians and both languages. One Charter, One Country and better priorities should be the #1 priority. The root of the Law and the enforcement of it is tainted and less a priority to the others (Education - No ACs for our kids, Health - where can I start? Roads etc - and we prioritize this???) VOTE! PS - My family is Bi-Lingual by choice! Good job Patisserie Obsession - we love your bakery and service/products. Get proof and make sure they respond before publicizing unfounded claims.

      Complètement faux ce que tu affirmes. Il n'est pas vraiment que les autres provinces respectent l'affichage dans les 2 langues. On voit clairement que tu ne voyage pas beaucoup. Dans la majorité des cas c'est en anglais seulement. Seul le fédéral respecte l'affichage dans les 2 langues. Même l'Ontario à une que seulement certaines régions sont desservi dans les 2 langues.
      La seule province officiellement bilingue est le Nouveau-Brunswick. Toutes les autres provinces à l'exception du Québec et du Nouveau-Brunswick ont l'anglais comme seule langue officielle. Seul le fédéral est bilingue. La majorité des lois de l'Alberta sont écrites en anglais seulement. Ils ont même été en cours supérieure pour ce "droit". Les contravention sont en anglais seulement.
      Lors de récentes élections municipales à Calgary, la ville a pris le temps de distribuer un dépliant informatif à propos des élections municipales traduit en 10 langues... mais pas en français. On pourrait continuer longtemps comme ça...
