I really enjoyed your video. Very easy to watch and not too long though interesting and with good info. I loved most of your knits too, and was surprised to find how much I really liked your Ferda Genser sweater. I say that bc although I love colour, I don't usually see myself wearing lots of bright coloured, especially multicoloured, items. But your sweater truly grabbed me. I jumped on Ravelry immediately to check it out and thought if I'd not seen your sweater in the colours you chose, I would have breezed right over that pattern. At first blush, the sample knit looks too busy for me and not the style I gravitate towards. BUT I love yours and now I'm keen! lol Although, in reality I'm a long way from actually knitting it since I'm still in my knitting infancy but it can be a knitting goal. I totally love the graduating colours in yours, as well as the actual colour palette. Looks like something to feel cheerful in! Now I'm going to go check out some of your other vids! 😊

I know you have to be comfortable but your bright pink vest is beautiful on you. You look amazing in this bright colour.

I'm right there with you - I'm drawn to bright colors, but I never wear them. So I remind myself to look at what I actually wear when I buy yarn for a project. And the same for cardigans. I overheat so easily that pullovers don't work for me. So it looks like moody cardigans are my new knitting staple!

In my experience the only way to process painful emotions is through. That jumper might be a very beautiful tool to help you do that and who knows it might end up being something that helps you feel close to your grandma. I would think very carefully before gifting it.

you are definitely making me want to knit a ranunculus! (well, I have made one, but you are making me want to make another!!) I love how oversized and different yours are, like adding the beads!

Nicole, Do it ! Do it! Do it! I clearly love the ranunculus and I believe I have a SQ hanging around for one in my stash 😂

Beautiful knits you are such a delightful knitter and very accomplished. By the way as soon as you put on the Lana vest I was so taken with the color on you, it really looks great. Happy 2024 can’t wait to continue the journey.

Great wrap up with useful commentary. The hoarfrost is gorgeous and I really love the Krampus and purple ranunculus on you. Both colors are really becoming. I too am a big fan of cardigans. My foxthoughts and my wervel are my two favorite knits of the year, followed by utopia.

Even though I know it caused you problems, your ferda genser is incredible! Just really stunning. But I can also see it's not totally "your style" so you should give it to me! LOL!
My favorite knit from the year is my Yara shawl by Natasja Hornby. Such a beautiful and fun pattern. I'm currently working on her Artus shawl, another good one.
My goal is to finish the three sweaters I have on the needles! And then not to cast on any more fingering weight sweaters any time soon! I need some DK or worsted projects I think.

Happy New Year Kate! I think this year could be shawl heavy ! The Yara shawl is sooooo pretty 🤩 I definitely am ready for some dk weight sweaters myself 🖤

Great wrap up Lauryl, what a lovely collection of knits. I totally understand not wanting to wear something out of your comfort zone, but your Lana Vest is very flattering. I love the Alpine Bloom, Autumn Alpine and Hoarfrost and appreciate the compare and contrast. I’m thinking through my knitting plans for 2024, probably to be though about what will most enhance my wardrobe and also to try a few new techniques and styles. I look forward to seeing inspiration throughout 2024. 🧶 Cher

Everything you knit is so wearable and stylish, you really have that down. My favorite of yours is the t-shirt that looks like stained glass but everything is quality. Last year was supposed to be all about sock knitting for me and learning colorwork that way but only tried and never finished one also I said not so many gift knits but that's pretty much all I did along with crochet amigurumi and already i'm on that again this year but i'd really like to make garments like you for myself! and the way you have seemed to it all out. Did you go to class to learn colorwork and sizing? or does it come naturally to you? I still have to take my own measurements at some point in my life.. You are on it and that's how far i'm not on it so you're kind of like my goals. You know what you're talking about and that definitely comes through.

Ophelia My best advice on fit is to measure a store bought shirt or sweater you love the fit of and start there, I didn’t take knitting classes but I do make many mistakes and that is how I learned by having to figure out how to fix them. I also certainly try things I don’t know how to do and just CZcams videos on various techniques 🖤

That was fun! It was nice to see you try them all on. Like when we were kids and did a fashion show in our room. I agree about being color mindful. And I am team cardigan. I have plans to do my Rebel cardigan by ankestrick once I rap up 2 current projects. I'm sending uarn out to be cranked into a tube for socks. I love socks but WHO Has The Time!?!!! Your ❄️ sweater is awesome. Can't wait to hear more details.

That caitlin hunter sweater is beautiful on you. How do you find test knitting projects and do you get to normally keep what you knit ? Is the wool paid for as well ? Thanks and good show 😊

    • @westmaven
      @westmaven  Před 8 měsíci

Fiona there are several ways to find out about test knits I suggest following the designer on instagram joining their Ravelry group if they have one and signing up for their newsletter (if they have a website). When you sign up for a test you are given the pattern for free and you purchase the yarn and keep the garment, you provide feedback on the pattern if it’s clear answer easy to follow etc. tests are fun they can feel like a knit along and it can be fun to make a pattern before anyone else. Also designers look for knitters that are new to knitting and also those that are experienced some will ask that you know certain techniques as that isn’t maybe hone in to depth like brioche or stealing if the pattern calls for that. I hope that helps and I’m so happy you are here!🖤

Strange to her you speak of sadness around the purple Ranunculus. Purple has been associated with depression. Over dye it with blue!
