- Recently, I had an opportunity to try the latest closed beta for Hoyoverse's upcoming action RPG, Zenless Zone Zero. To say the least, it left me absolutely shocked! It's totally different compared to the studio's recent games, Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact. In this video I'll share everything I experienced while playing and whether or not it'll be worth trying when it releases in 2024.

I'm getting REAL strong Honkai Impact vibes from this.
The explorable town reminds me of Arc City, the arena combat reminds me of *most* of Honkai's combat (except for the open world levels), and the integration of manga pages alongside animated cutscenes seems like the natural evolution of Honkai's use of both cutscenes and manga chapters to complement the visual-novel-style conversations.
Looks like a lot of fun, but if you haven't already I'd give a *hearty* recommendation to play through Honkai Impact.
This looks SICK! I can definitely see myself sinking countless hours playing it and having a linear experience is a welcome change at times 🤩

It looks like a way higher budget / polished "Dusk Diver" I was hoping Dusk Diver 2 would look something like this.

The swap in parry reminds me of how Tales of Berseria worked, it gave you invulnerability when switching after a certain point (If you play on Hard).

I so hope they pump up the difficulty, cause so far it has amazing gameplay that kinda goes to waste by the fact the mobs barely fight back
The bigger boss-like enemies are more aggressive.
@@TheGamingShelf So I've heard, but still, if 95% of the game is not challenging I'm afraid it failed as a combat centric game, love the vibe but sure hope they ramp the difficulty up, although unlikely

You do have to collect items so the items don’t expire, but that’s about it.

OK, DAMN IT TAYLOR! You convinced me. Ill check this out. I'm really not a fan of hoyo and the gatcha games. Honkai star rail still looks interesting and so did their fighter game that wasn't genshin impact. Ill check this game out. Mostly because it actually gives me a bit of persona cross devil may cry vibes. I see the JSR influence too but I'm kinda feeling more of the persona vibe tbh. Blue protocol is another game i want to try out. Too many games to catch up on now though. At least MH wilds isn't dropping for a while but then Dragon's dogma 2 is around the corner....sigh, too many games and anime right now

This game looks amazing and had me interested since the first time I saw it. Unfortunately there are aspects I don't like (the gatcha nature, the fact that I don't want to play it on a smartphone and some other minor things). Anyway, great preview, thanks!
The digging minigame feels a lot like the Mr Driller franchise.
100%! Taking a break to play the arcade games is neat.
Seems like its not entirely new, but it is a honkai impact style game for the new mihoyo

Is it really "unlike anything they've made before"? To me it looks nearly exactly like Honkai Impact in terms of gameplay and mechanics. Only brought to current gen since Honikai Impact is like 7 years old at this point. Not that that is bad. I still play Honkai Impact after all. Very excited for this one.
The structure and presentation is VERY different. Star Rail and Genshin are very free roaming whereas this is much more linear and stage-based.

That's a bit reductive. Zzz has alot going for it in looks and presentation that isn't a 1 to 1 to any of the hoyo games. Even the characters give off a dif vibe than 3rd impact
Gameplay sure may be similar but as you said doesn't have to be a bad thing
@@basilnottheherb Ehh. No offense but I think you're speaking from a place of ignorance. Honkai Impact is a very whimsical, goofy game as well. For example, the current event running as of this comment is an over the top Star Wars parody. The game has always had goofy hyper stylized stuff in it. ZZZ does seem to turn that stuff up to 11 but I really don't see how anyone can pretend like it's some drastic departure for Mihoyo. It's an evolution not a revolution.

This game looks awesome & gameplay is sick but I must say going through all the jazz before the fighting is sigh. It's just like Aastral Chain where you had to do detective work before the you get to the fighting ofc its tired to the story but this awesome fighting gameplay should come in a game for that alone LOL.
I usually stay away from these games but the combat at style is drawing me in. Like DMC x Scarlet Nexus to me.

Totally! An action RPG with different characters you can swap between in a sort of urban environment. Absolutely.

it looks amazing but apart from that im skeptical about it. like previous hoyoverse games i played for a bit and never touched again. firstly i hate gatcha and even without it the games dont offer enough incentive to keep playing. they are live service so the story doesnt end. besides this game to succed the combat needs to be really good because it doesnt have open world like other games. i think it migth get boring fast
I watched a bit of the story but couldnt find it too interesting myself tbh.
I have other issues with the game however, for one, it seems like HI3 but if they put just less work into animations, my example being that the swap in skill animation and ultimate attacks for most if not all characters are the exact same, only difference is the ultimate has an animation start up. Felt lazy compared.
Im not going to talk about how they doubled down on the tv mechanic everyone wanted reduced.
As for character models in my personal opinion ive seen better and much more diverse characters, not saying they are bad by any means though. Im just hoping nekomata isnt actually her name...the blades are cool but ya.
As for gacha, its worse then genshin since instead of weapons and characters, it also has pets with the same rates as genshin, so getting a character is even worse.
It's funny to me that mihoyo is their own biggest competitor in gacha games.

I wish they would just make a game WITHOUT gacha elements, they already have 2 massively successful exploitation machines, do they really need a fckin 3rd? Can we just get a 40$ title with no micros???? Please??? Star Rail had me until the dungeon runs basically REQUIRED you to have better characters from the gatcha crap. That's what pissed me off the most. I was having so much fun in SR until then, then it was miserable. Not every damn game has to have microtransactions!!!

Not only the Gacha, but also the daily login shit is something I absolutely hate, I wanna play the game whenever I feel like it and not miss out on stuff cause i don't play the game every freaking day.
@TheGamingShelf That's the core issue. Thankfully, and also sadly, the last 3 years have been a massive graveyard for these live service traps. So many closures and "end of service" announcements. I'm personally hoping this trend continues and the market goes back to "normal". I wouldn't be nearly as opposed to this stuff if prices were actually "micro." Halo has a 25$ skin to "celebrate" the anniversary, which is NOT ok. If that was 5$ or 7$, sure, we don't really have an issue here, but prices are so insane. It's not sustainable at this fucking rate! People have limited time and resources. If every game needs your time and grind and are all live services, how is anything supposed to survive? To survive they need peoples money and time. These things are at odds with each other.

Gonna spend some time on this game if for no other reason than they FINALLY added some actual non-humans to their game, for once.
