I'm doing CHRISTMAS special series with a REACTION EVERYDAY, ending on CHRISTMAS EVE! This takes so much work for me, combined with my main jobs, so I really hope you enjoy the content and appreciate the effort! ;)

Speaking of Mitch and Kirstie, they are capable of imitating each other’s voice to the point where it’s not possible for us to tell them apart Kind of a joke among Pentaholics that if you’re wondering whether it’s Mitch or Kirstie, the answer is “yes”.

Avi has a voice like golden honey, Mitches voice is Angelic, everything about PTX is phenomenal and I just can't get enough of them!

Candles are for light. The cave is very dark.
This song sounds the same live. They are good at filling in when needed. Remember how Scott takes over the bass when Matt (or Avi) takes the lead. Also this vid is old and Amazing Grace was last year.

I recently learned that Kevin can beatbox AND sing at the same time. AVI can also sing 2 notes at once. Didn't think it was possible but heard that myself when they were on the 24/7 show and demonstrated it. AMAZING TALANTED GROUP. GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA
The candles are the timeless way to light the inside of the cave, which I think probably represents the manger where Jesus is said have been born. This was the first Pentatonix song I ever heard a number of years ago and I became an immediate fan.
I think it coud also just stand for Jesus being referred to as the "Light of the World"

I believe the Candles represent the Light of God. Also Scott will often take over the base part when Avi is singing.
The location for this video is at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. The cave was actually the original location of Batman's Bat Cave in the live action TV series in the 1960s. The multiple openings made it easy for the crew to film things from different perspectives and PTX used the openings for their amazing lighting.
Oh Come All Ye Faithful! They have a very uplifting version! It is awesome!
Sorry I missed the premier, but I enjoyed your reaction! Always fun to see Jorim as well. They released their 6th Christmas album this year, so plenty of amazing songs to choose from. One of my absolute favorites is “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”, but I also love “12 Days of Christmas”. Both are full of fun surprises!
The candles represent the light of God in the world
Mix of Christmas and Easter in the background meaning. Light comes through like the stone being rolled away in the Reserection. They are speaking of what is to come.
The light of Fire is a symbol of life. As long as it burns there is life. So to me in this song, it symbolizes the birth of Christ.

The candles were only for effect b/c they were in a dark cave. One lighting effect that few reactors notice or comment on is that lighting behind Kirstie's head (starts about halfway through) where the cave light circles her head like the Madonna. And, the "loop" is called a cannon where one starts and then the others come in repeating one after the other.

The technique they used might be called different things, I would call it a fuge, a round, or a canon. Commonly if you think about a group singing "row your boat" one starts off and a measure later another starts off and so on, that's a round. They play with common singing techniques but they also like to invent little changes to them so it's hard to tell what exactly they are doing sometimes.

I thought the candles were like candle light service at church on Christmas Eve when Jesus is born. It’s like a nod to a liturgical tradition
For most religion, means lighting the way. For some religion it is for guiding the souls that may have passed. Guiding them home. Bottom line it is a guiding light.
This song is usually sung at a high mass, usually Midnight mass in the Catholic church. Our parish does an hour of choral singing before the mass starts

I suggest you double check your suspicion that PTX uses any type of recorded material. When they use an instrument, you see it and they make no apology.
Just a quick note PTX have done six(6) Christmas albums .
Usually in Christian services for the high service you have a candle light portion of the program, usually around midnight and the start of Christmas day.
You should really check out Avi's "Change is on the Rise" it's transcendental!
Favorite from Pentatonix would be 'O Come All Ye Faithful', 'Over the River' (which is a new one link below), 'You're a Mean One, Mr Grinch' which really isn't a Christmas song but was in a Christmas movie. Over the River is so completely different than the old US carol sung for so many years. And has guest Lindsey Stirling on violin & Kevin on cello. I really would try to watch that one before they start blocking it. You probably know O Com All Ye Faithful but you haven't heard it done this way before. The original composer of Mary did you Know sings it with Voctave also. So Pentatonix, Home Free, & Voctave all do this one. Merry Christmas Guys.

I think the intention for the candles was just for the effect, but it can also be interpreted, if you like, as a metaphor for Jesus, who is the “light” of the world, of God.

I adoooore PTX, but I also think you should also check out the version of this song performed by its writer, Mark Lowry, with Voctave. Mark just brings another dimension to it.
I know I am late but candles have more meaning than lighting. traditionally candles are lit christmas eve night to represent Jesus being with us.
I don't particularly know the reason for the candle, but Jesus is also called "the candle in the darkness" so maybe that's what the candle is representing.🙂
I don't know about the bass of the other group you mentioned, but in Pentatonix when Avi (the bass) is singing Scott takes over as the bass. You should check out their live performances.

I always enjoy your reactions. This song was written by an American Southern Gospel artist named Mark Lowry. We can always count on Pentatonix to deliver a superb musical interpretation. But on a Christmas song like this, you have to listen to the words which come from the Scriptures to understand the true meaning of this song. And as far as the candles are concerned, I think it was because they were performing in a dark cave and really have no ther significance.
Jesus is the "light of the world", so the candles represent His birth bring light to the world
That echo section with no percussion is kind of like a fugue. More of a polyphonic style with delayed entries than blocks of chords.
