I feel like her and Aaliyah could've been good friends. They both have that smooth voice and are classy and sweet.
I think they both was cordial with each other. Idk about actual friends but at events they would talk and take pics back in the day.
I can tell some of you people don't really remember who Aaliyah hung with versus who Maya hung with... Not being funny or anything but I really love both of those artists I still love Maya... But Alia was once married to R.Kelly the group of people she hung out with were questionable... I was so glad when she got away from them and started hanging out with Missy Elliott and Timbaland but it seems like as soon as she started doing better and getting to know herself as an adult that's when she passed. Because if she had a stayed hanging around our Kelly she was going to be one corrupt messed up woman. Maya was going to college and majoring and dance at the time Aaliyah was hanging around R Kelly.

When you're a popular mainstream artist your music is considered good. When you aren't as popular as you once were, your music is considered bad. Mya is probably one of the best female artist out now. She knows almost every form of dance there is, she writes her own music and she finances her own music videos. She will always be a 10 in my book. I support mya in everything she does. Her EP's was amazing and her club performances are amazing as well. Give mya a grand stage and she'll show a lot of these artist what a performance is.

The sound of music is evolving. If you cannot keep up, then you are forced to slow it down until you can find a sound you fit with again. Its kind of like jobs in america. Ppl are getting replaced by technology. Its all about how you can create the most money without losing money. That's the reason these artists sign contracts- to make money for the label and take a small percentage of it

U look young, so you may not be as familiar with how ridiculously pathetic and non-creative music has become, generally speaking. Artists that are the most popular and signed to major labels are forced to dummy down their talents to appeal to a society that is filled with simple minded and superficial ppl. It leaves little to no room for true talent. It's greatly devalued and made to look irrelevant when really, those with the most talent are independent
+Monice Sharde if you sign to a label for something other than distribution, you're gonna end up in debt. Financially literal people wouldn't sign to a label. What I meant by evolving, is change. The way instruments are being used nowadays. The way vocal effects are being used as an instrument. Rap has become melodic, r&b has more 808s now. That's evolution of music right there. We're not talking talent. We're talking stricly the sound of music. I mat look young but I'm 21 and I know my stuff. I know quite a few ppl who are behind the scenes in the industry and labels.

I don't know about you guys, but her speaking voice is soooo silky smooth. I melted in my seat just hearing her voice LOL.
Her singing voice is just as smooth and beautiful as her speaking voice. She has so much control and a nice range. When she sings in her upper register, she makes it sound easy. I want to hear sing some jazz standards, she'd be perfect for it. Again, I melted in my seat hearing her singing voice lol.

The late 90's early 2000's were the beginning of the end of real mainstream music. So proud of Mya for staying true to herself and growing into the beautiful woman that she is today.
Unlike a lot of other artists, I get the impression that Mya has the brains along with the talent.
The fact that her speaking voice is so pure and measured is testament to how well she's taken care of her voice while singing. One of the earliest clues that a singer had damaged her voice is when they start speaking in a raspy tone. Mya is superbly well maintained and preserved, physically, vocally, spiritually, everything.

After 2008, it was a wrap. Mya started BLOWIN'. Check out her "case of the ex/lady marmalade performance on Australia sunrise. She was amazing.
Dave Knight mya becoming an independent artist was a smart move. Like she said, you makes more money. Mya is also a lot bigger overseas. She just was on tour with Sean Paul in Australia. Her last studio album was #1 on japan itunes. She always wrote her own material which a lot of mainstream artist CLAIM they do but they don't write a damn thing. Mya also does a lot of club bookings. She's doing good for herself.
