It's all about the set up. You've gotta make sure before the first punch is thrown, everyone involved knows it's 'light sparring' then just fucking unload on the guy.
Miguel Cotto is an example of a Modernized Peek-a-boo and Mexican style guard.. his old school mix with new school tactics Are just beautiful to watch.
I forget the name of the boxer, but he had a weird stance. He had a decent career and he laid right fore arm on his left forearm and pointed his left elbow out. Almost like he was going to plow through your guard/offense with his elbow. He had success because it was such a rare stance but it made his jab awkward and his right hand less powerful.
I'm too old for fighting, but I love these videos. I always come away with a deeper understanding of techniques which let's me appreciate matches more. Good stuff.
I never recommend a beginner use that hands low style. Until you got a lot of rounds of sparring under your belt, maybe a few amateur matches, keep that guard high and tight
What I like about Shane's videos is that he gets straight to the point ... no corny intro, no unfunny comedic remarks and laughter in between, no annoying commercial. Just no-nonsense .... imagine if he had ALL of those things included, which is the case with some CZcamsrs, then there's now way that I would watch all his videos.
@@Max-gc2yz exactly. I am a smaller fighter myself and have tried this style but I would appreciate it if someone were to explain it thoroughly so I may master it.
I never knew the "Mexican style" was a thing. I trained in Doryoku Karate when I was a kid, and then went on to box recently, I mixed the two stances together which feels natural to me and I ended up doing that exact stance.
Fullshark 09 yea if you watch his 2nd fight against Tracy Patterson or his 2nd against Micky Ward or the one against Jesse James Leija you’ll see that he def had some solid boxing skills
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Thanks guys so much for completing the moves during explanation! Coach PJs head for example goes back after the punch for Coach Shane even though the blow is not in real time speed. It demonstrates the effectiveness of a punch thrown and also what happens on the defensive end should an opponent drop his/her guard and leaves him/herself open. This is a channel worth watching and I do these drills. Lots of fun
My preferred guard style: Modified Philly with low/extended lead hand. I use it to to keep something in someone's face at all times, easy guard testing, fast up jabs, and good energy conservation. Only down side is the lack of defense, but if you've got good head movement, it works. At least for me that is :P
The Mexican style stance is also great to set up up body punches and come up whit upper cuts watch juan Manuel Marquez highlights you can get kind of an idea it’s awesome all stances are great tho it just depends whitch one you adjust to ! 🥊🥊🥊🥊
I used to do a modified “drunken boxer” stance because I could use the excuse that I knew how to defend even tho I didn’t and was just lazy with my hands xD
The philly shell is very hard to use if you’re shorter than your opponent. You will most likely get tagged with the right bc the shoulder roll is probably the hardest to master
The only thing u guys left off about the philly shell or grand rapids roll is.... Your right hand has to cover two spots (orthodox). The right side of the face but it also has to go to the front of the face/chin to party and block jabs and potentially other shots (With an open palm facing the opponant). If u leave your right hand on the right side of the face u will eventually get caught by easily blocked punches. That's all great video 🔥🔥🔥
@Lando _ No because MMA gyms are rare in India. Highly discouraged upon society them dumbasses. You're lucky if you find a boxing gym. It's mostly Karate and Taekwondo McDojos
TBH mike tyson footwork is underrated its the reason he could make the slips so perfect and load the punches so easily as well as make them connect modern martial artist made a great vid series about Tyson and talked about it. Pretty fantastic breakdown
It isn't for people who study boxing. It was extraordinary. In fact, I think Tyson is the only fighter that I can think of who almost NEVER improvised in the ring. Cus and Rooney had given him the keys and formula for all of the actions and reactions of opponents that he didn't have to deviate. His training footwork and movement looks EXACTLY like his fight footage. Amazing.
bro i was looking at this video getting into boxing and i didnt even realise i naturally use the 3rd one, i thought it was silly that i did it but now i realize its an actual style. thanks

Philly shell is all in the feet when blocking a left hook or rolling a right cross don’t over turn with the blocks otherwise they can bait and create a gap in between the left hook right hand or right hand left hook
I got the stand of "Mike tyson style" then the right hand like by Mexican style and the left hand just on shoulder hight and when I get pushed back words I kinda go like mayweather I think I just got (for me) the best version
When you juve and jive you drop your hands. When you set up you raise your hands. Ali would hold his lead hand down so he could slap the jaw or straight jab. The other hand protects the jaw. George foreman used a cross arm block so he could wade into his opponent and throw straight power shots. When in a fight a fighter has to have one hand in front of his mouth at all times. A punch in the mouth is a knock out.
Where the peek a boo style had a con at is it put more strain on the ribs or hips versues the legs so if your using the peek a boo style versues some one who is hard to overwhelm being aggressive your just tiring your ribs and legs out with more movement than youll need

I do a mix of peekaboo and Mexican I stay low and close and when I'm moving in I like to keep my left hand out and moving to catch a jab then step in as he brings the hook round I roll it and then as I come up I send a hook to the opponent since I have fast hands and reaction this works but I wouldt suggest doing this if your not fast because they could easily catch you with a left
when I used to fight in school I always used the drunken boxer, it was so useful because I could just pretend to attack, until the guy missed and I could hit him from the side
2:16 that is Mexican style kinda in a way. It was developed in Mexico and is used by J M Marquez finito lopez and Salvador Sanchez its similar to the Phili shell only the lead hand is loos and wondering fighters using this still have to learn how to develop power with the left and how to instantly turn it into a hook an upper or a jab this's were the famous left hook developed because of how fuedly any wondering hand would turn into a hook. I know most people like to think Mexican style is just moving forward with no de but true Mexican style keeps his opponents preoccupied with the left as he gathers points and then hurts you with that straight right. A good example of perfect uses of this style look at barrera vs prince nassim, eric Morales vs Pacquiao 1. Both fighters outsmarted and out punched their opponents with the lead hand and would force their opponents to choose getting tapped with the left or getting hurt with a straight
