- Commencing phase two of my office renovation! I mean, it was only supposed to be me doing trim and adding a shelf but I definitely have some more planned - painting the ceiling, crown molding! Eeek! Stay tuned for the second part of this project & some final shots of the shelves all put back together.
By the way, if you haven't seen yet, CZcams gave me the ability to make a membership option for the channel. Wooo! If you sign up you get access to videos at least one day early, behind-the-scenes updates, my undying love & more. Check that out here -

You are not terrible at teaching or explaining you are real and just like all of us. Unlike the big home makeover shows who have people come in behind the scenes and finish for them. We appreciate the real DIY! Kudos to you!
I appreciate that but truly you don't want to hear me try to explain how to do anything. 😛
This house deserves all the details!! Heck you deserve all the details! It definitely makes a huge difference in my eye. I think the shelves were giving a very modern vibe and now they are regal and more appropriate to the character of this home!
I forgot about your globe collection. The trim makes a huge difference. Can’t wait to see the new ceiling color. Cheers
I'm super impressed that you can look at a space and realize something's not quite right, then actually figure out what to change, and then have the drive to do what needs doing. Looks great!
Thank you so much for this comment. It took me like three years to figure it out but hey, I got there!!!
I feel so much better after watching your videos because I’m the same way! People think I’m crazy (to be fair i am and super adhd) but I think I painted the rooms in my house 2-3 times until it feels right! You have to live with it for a while and know the home!!
I do remember your first video in the office…you’ve come so far since then. You have tackled challenges that most would shy away from…and shined. Toot that horn! 🎺🎺🎺 I love it all!
Oh it totally made a difference, they actually look built in now, before it just looked like they were sitting against the wall. The same thing happened when we bought our house and I couldn’t believe the difference just adding trim made. Great job!
The trim is an improvement. It’s subtle but still recognizable. Details matter.
Absolutely!!
It went from looking Ikea to craftman, really nice! Love the molding, and love the fact that you made it with your dad
my thoughts exactly! It's a simple trim but it just finishes it perfectly. I love it!
This is exactly what I came to comment. Definitely made a big impact!
Love your videos so glad you went back to making them
❤
I wish I was younger to tackle projects, but your inspiring many others. Keep up the great work. Your home will be so beautiful. Bedford girl here.
Well done, Kayla! Now, you need a sliding library ladder! 😉I think your globe collection would also look good, interspersed throughout the house - keeps the theme running. Would you, pretty please, ever reconsider putting (some) of your first house work videos back up? I loved seeing how you tackled the first issues in the house, like the drop down ceiling that so many people face when buying an old house that was redone in the mid-20th century. But, if not, thank you so much for these wonderful new videos. You craft them so well, as you do with your beautiful house!
LOL, I was just talking to my dad about building one the other day! I'm just not convinced I wanna give up any open floor space. But yeah, definitely at some point - whether in this room or my official (future) library a ladder has to happen!!!
ALSO, so funny you'd mention that! I was just talking to my husband today about re-editing and releasing some of the oldies! (Specifically the first walkthrough of the house!) So coming soon - maaaaaybe?!
@@kaylahstroup Thank you - that would be nice! I see your point about losing floor space with an angled out library ladder. I have seen a couple of images of ladder designs that stay very flush to the bookshelves. They do it by putting a slight bend inwards to the bookshelf, either 1/3 of the way up, or 1/3 of the way down Hmmm... I'm sure you can find them in an image search as I did. Love your library!
Ooooooh, a library ladder. I agree!!
@@kaylahstroup I have also seen an ingenious, fold-out, wooden chair to ladder that could work.
The bookshelves now look like custom built-ins. What a difference! Anxiously awaiting the new ceiling color. Great job, Kaylah! You do not disappoint!
Thank you!!!! ❤
That is a massive improvement. They are more polished and the shelved look more integrated with the space as opposed to an add-on.
Love your energy and the fact you’re not afraid to tackle any project. The shelves and the room looks great! Well done! ❤
Thank you!!!! ❤
Looking great I think the trim does make a difference......can't wait to see the crown....
The video I don't think does it justice. I think the trim really does finish the shelves and adding to it to extend to the ceiling looks so good as well.
Wow! You were 100% on point with adding the trim- it looks fantastic! Can’t wait to see the finished look- you did a really great job
Thank you so much!!
Wow, wow, wow. You went from Ann Taylor to Channel!
The trim might not be super impactful but the trim does really help anchor the shelves in the room... I love that you fully cased in the windows! That made the room look taller!
It looks fantastic!! I appreciate how you allow yourself and the house to evolve! 😊
Another thought: Maybe eventually (Phase 3?) you could add lighting behind the trim to give the top shelf a glow at night.
Love the trim details and the extra shelf level is so smart. It does seem great for the bigger things (visually)- specially since it's the furthest up.
That is a lot of bang for your buck! They look so classy.
Yay globes!
I was just thinking, once you add the crown molding, if you wanted to make the top shelves a little shorter you can add a false ceiling at the end point of the crown molding. Like if the shelves are 15 inches and the crown is 5 inches, you can just add a false shelf top in line with the end of the molding which would make the shelf 10 inches. I think they look great as they are, adding the molding really made them look intentional.
I have extremely similar bookshelves that someone built in my Victorian home and when I see them they just don't fit the style of the rest house but they are very useful. I am so inspired by your video to try something similiar with mine! You did a great job!
Okay when you said at the beginning that you always felt the shelves looked unfinished, I didn’t understand what you meant. But holy wow I get it now. The trim detail on the shelves makes them look sooo much more refined and intentional!! Love it!!
Yes I can truly grasp the transformation! AMAZING!!
I think the result does look a lot more intentional rather than happenstance so kudos!
It looks really good! An improvement for sure! (it lookesd great before as well)
I love everything you do.. OMG, your so cool.. living the dream girl.. My house is a mess and no cool projects...
I think it looks great and that you're underestimating the impact it DOES have, because you've been looking at it too long. I think once you give it a few days and look at pics of how it looked before, you'll really appreciate all your hard work. SOOOOO good! And is it just me, or do you love refilling a set of shelves? I feel like every time you tweak it a little bit and like it a little better. Maybe it's just me, but I really get some sense of satisfaction out of organizing shelves for function and to achieve an aesthetic. You're making me want to add trim to MY shelves, and I just bought some, so I know how expensive it can be. Darn you and your inspiration!!! Congrats on "Phase 2!"
Each of your videos are such a delightful treat!
I could not focus on what you are saying because that lamp behind you is STUNNING!!
LOL! It's a stunner, huh? Even better is how it was DIRT cheap!!! I am very proud of that score.
It looks amazing! I love what you've done! It's all in the small details isn't it!
You can toot your own horn a lot, you are very talented.❤️❤️ I love the trim and can’t wait to see the crown moulding and new ceiling colour. ❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻❤️
It made a huge impact!!!!! Love it great job ❤️😊🥰
It looks so much classier!
Very nice way to upgrade the shelves!
Thank you!
Love custom updates. I would love to be handy with wood. Great job!
Hey, it just takes practice! I still don't feel very handy. This project would have taken like ten times less time with a little help but ya gotta start somewhere. Never too late to pick up a new hobby. ❤
I think there is a big difference between. It looks really nice and finished. Good job
thank you!!
This doesn't look like Ikea shelves anymore. Really good job, I love it ♡
You’re a genius!
❤
You’re amazing! That house needed you.
I also like the large top shelf space. The way you have it styled makes that space look intentional and goes with the character of the house. You go girl.
They look wonderful!!!! Wish I had some. My walls are barely 6.5 feet tall.
Well done.
major upgrade!!
Kayla, you need a library ladder.
I reeeeeally do!!
Nice 👍
Love it!
Its absolutely stunning!😍
Thank you! 😊
I found your channel by chance have watched a few enjoyed watching you do your stuff and decided to subscribe. You are so talented vibrant and beautiful can’t wait to watch more content ❤
Thank you so much! ❤❤❤
The shelves look awesome. Def can tell the difference. And I'm guessing a shade of green for ceiling 🤔💚
LOL, you think I'm that predictable!? (I am!) But for once it's not green! 😛
@@kaylahstroup ..lol, can't wait to see what you choose. ☺️ Btw ..I love green.
love it !
Love it! Great job!
Thanks so much!
Good job!😊😊😊😊
Thank you! 😃
Now you'll have to give us a "tour" of your bookshelf, seems you have some interesting titles.
Ohh, that's a fun idea for once I get it all organized again!
❤❤❤
omg I missed your videos so so os os much
🥰❤️❤️❤️
Looks great. Merry Christmas 🎅
Thanks, you too!
🌟

💟
Instead of thinking of putting another shelf up there could you put artwork up there since you have an array of artwork collecting
What color are you using on your hair these days? It's so pretty!
Punky Colours FOREVERRRR. I actually took a little detour for a while and tried out a bunch of other greens with pretty meh lasting results. This is my first dye job with Punky in a little while and I'm so so so pleased with how much its not fading. (This is Alpine Green!)
Hang the gloves from the ceiling!
