The care he shows to other people's property is awesome. He shows that he has a passion for what he does, it's not just a job.

Ha idk how you can be that lazy to try to pull off a car stuck in park. I have a 325ix and I'd cry if someone towed front wheels down. I'm sure that's killed so many AWD cars.
when i worked at MIDAS this was a common thing and the tow truck drivers messed up several cars. one of my least favorite calls. believe it or not calling a customer and telling them there car fell off the lift was actually great fun for me.

This man truly loves his craft, the level of care he places into his work in not so easy to come by nowadays.
He does. I can speak with experience. I do exactly this for a living as well. I have seen many who have lost the care and it becomes just a job. Johnny definitely cares and it is what makes him so successful.
Pulling apart the indicator stalk to figure out the issue? Most would just replace it and throw the old one out. He has passion in his work alright
I once witnessed an angry agressive tow truck driver destroy the back panel of a freshly painted '67 Mustang with his tow chain, then threaten to beat up the customer when they complained. It's an industry full of low intellect knuckleheads, so when you do find a good one it is worth sticking with them.

Two things, first I like that you don't stick up for BMW's design flaws you call them out and say that the engine sucks. Second if the car had went to the dealer you know they wouldn't even try to fix the switch just grab the $200 new switch off the parts shelf and replace it. You did what a good mechanic should do. Great videos.
For the Car Ninja to get mad and shout at someone then ban them from his shop... he must have been disgusted by them.
I'm a gen x, and I was brought up to have respect for other people, and their thing's. The best job I ever had was running a very buisy cemetery. I hired people who cared, or they were gone. I met and buried a lot of people who lost a spouse, or a child, and they were sad when I got in a bad accident. One mother visited her son everyday in one of the mausoleums, and in the winter I made sure the road was plowed first thing, and that it was salted and she had a clear path in, because she was older, been visiting for year's. Treat people with respect, and tearing their stuff up is ignorant, and lazy. Ninja is a good mechanic, and leaves the car running, and looking good when it leaves, no dirt and grease all over it. God bless y'all.

Thanks for the advice on towing. My worst nightmare. Specially parking enforcers
Try to to sue those parking lot/law enforcement contract towing companies for damages or loss. You’ll lose.
@@vw5056 Knew someone who would occasionally drive past a local tow place he had a grudge with. Nails would "accidently" fall out of the bed of the rusted truck and eventually find their way into the tires of some of the tow trucks routinely leaving the lot. That went on for about a month until he was over it.
@@venge1894 that’s petty, psychopath behavior.
I am constantly amazed at how many techs don't try and limit their exposure to solvents and oil/grimy gunk. Many of them will regret it when they get older. It may cost you an hour or 2 a week but wear the proper gloves when you're washing parts. Try not to shower things with brake kleen. Use a wire brush and a rag instead of getting out your disc sander to clean surfaces and putting that shit into the air. Do it for your family and kids if you don't care about it for yourself.
The average person who works in automotive doesn’t think about further than 2 weeks into the future

When towing a car into a shop ask the shop owner who they use, it’s much easier that way.
Hello Sir & Gentlemen: I must say you guys are so professional that your shop is run like a hospital & not a garage. I've been working on cars for 59 years & I must say your caring, & attention to detail is uncanny to say the least. 6:10 First thing that every manufacturer writes in every manual: Do not use impact driver.
Yeah I saw that as well, was going to comment on it but you already did that :)
I didn't see a prolonged run with the impact driver so probably didn't overheat the strut internals. Even so, better to get a $300 universal strut tool to attach the upper mounts.
Great job again Ninja, showing some passion for both your customers and their cars.
Please keep your hands out of that solvent. You’ll be an old man someday and you’ll be glad you did.
I used to work in a parking garage in San Francisco downtown. One time a valet employee from a nearby hotel couldn’t move a Maserati due to some error, the car went into some sort of limp mode and would not go up the exit ramp. The tow truck wasn’t able to maneuver to get in the parking lot and nobody could figure out how to put the car in neutral. So it was hook from the front arms and dragged for about 100 feet to get it out and on the tow truck.
4:35 You know your "rubber" gaskets are no good anymore when you drop them and they make that sound
So I guess the faulty turn signal switch is why most BMW drivers don’t use their signals: fear that it will break!
Truth!, lol
Well actually, also on BMW motorcycles like on my S1000rr the turn signal switch breaks and you don't have any turn signals after that. It's the second time that the switch has to be replaced.
Actually I just assume that most BMW drivers are entitled every time I see this or when they go zooming past at double the speed limit. Watching these videos makes me feel better.
Somewhere on Craigslist: For sale is a turn stalk from a 2010 bmw X5. Like new condition, never been used!
This beemer came with the optional self lubricating chassis.
It’s a standard feature on BMWs. With that said I fixed the leaks (diy) on mine so it doesn’t do that anymore.
Such a joy watching these guys work.
Love how you love your job.
Even more so when you’re honest about what cars/engines you hate the most while you’re doing a meticulous job repairing said hated cars/engines.
This is cool. No mess no loud cool shop music. Just fixing cars....
The worst part imo about bmw oil leaks is the clean up. The undercover gets saturated full of oil and it takes forever to clean the engine bay nicely.
Always a great, informative and relaxing view!!
When he fixed the turn signal stalk the customer never noticed. (BMW)
For the Audi bit at the end... The cam lock tool for the EA113 engines is not even really supposed to set the cams or "lock" them in place per se, it's really only to counter-hold them so you can undo the cam adjuster bolt to get the chain off. It's not really intended to set the cam timing on reassembly, nor does the service manual say it is meant for that. There's little arrows on the journal caps that help to ensure the cams are in the right place--there's no marks on the cams but you can just make your own with a marker. There's also a mark on the intake cam sprocket IIRC that's supposed to tell you if it's right (granted on a longitudinal application like the A4 you can't really see this with the engine in the car). The other method is that of "counting the links" in the chain so as to set it back the same way though you still have to rotate the adjuster in this procedure to get it back on.
Sure the China tool may have more play than the factory tool but either way it's not intended to ensure the timing is right. I used the cheap China tool without any issues; yes there's some play but I followed the s/m which never tells you it's supposed to set cams based on that tool. That and doing the "link counting" as suggested on forum DIYs, helped me get it right.
Very good format with the multiple plots! I always enjoyed your interactions with the Hoovies. You have a GREAT channel!

Just finished removing the egr carbon buildup from the intake of my 2014 535d. Replaced all the gaskets while I was there to deal with blowby from the intake. Gaskets all hard. Only realized afterwards the coolant flange from the head was leaking, had to pull intake back off (a little) to replace it. Amazing performance increase from cleaning out intake (200k km).
This guy deserves to make good money.
The BMW looked great after getting it's springs.
Can't believe though that he got a Chinese tool to work on Audi timing.
What did you expect?
Yep, this.
I was surprised by that too. But he probably thought "how much could they screw up on such a simple tool", which is the rationalization most of us have when comparing the prices of an OEM tool of $500 vs the Amazon knock off that costs $75. We all learn.
@@sunsetrider45 now we know.
@@sunsetrider45 Would it be worth taking to a machine shop to get whatever's loose/wrong corrected
Baum makes many of their tools in Taiwan and many of the cheap competing eBay tools look like about the same. I did hear the same factory makes for Baum and other tool suppliers who brand their own tools.
I have heard that for S54/BMW engine to only use the OEM can bridge. I did buy that tool and the little pin they provide to drop into the camshaft - the head fell off. A dab of glue and back in business just like the Germans did.
How about a $800 tool to remove E70 X5 rear axles from the hubs?
Make every part need a special tool, why not.
The way that OEM tool just slid in the place at the end of the video was pure magic
I'm curious if that was after re-timing the motor or if the chinese tool actually got it right, they didn't show him re-timing it.

I am in love with that 535i !! Very beautiful.
"it looks good and drives good", well I had a set of those lowering springs from H&R on my car when I bought it and oh boy what a revelation it was when I threw them into the garbage where they belong. Unfortunately the cars other suspension elements and its underside were already fucked up by those idiotic springs.
So yeah, buy a car with actually good suspension and fuck it up so it will "look good" cause that's a suspensions role.
I too owned a car with some H&R lowering springs on in it, 2000 Pass at Wagon, what a horrid "upgrade", it rode terribly. I replaced the aftermarket springs with stock springs.
Hmmm. I installed H&R touring cup springs and Bilstein struts on my BMW along with new suspension bushings. It is definitely lower, firmer ride, and it handles better. Choosing suspension parts that work together is important. 😊

Hey Jonny you said the Audi has timing chain but I saw a belt on the front. I had a B5 Passat 1.8 very similar longitudinal engine bay. It brought back memories. So was this a belt or chain for timing? Do you know when they went to chains?
Jonny, this happened today.
2 BMW owners came into the shop today. Both needed Brake jobs on the rear brakes. Metal to metal, wear leads ruined, the owners ignored the dash warnings.
Salesman approved both jobs.... And this is where it got out of control.
Service manager ordered parts, mechanic installed parts, I reset the computers....
And done. NOPE
Came back from lunch, shop manager has the rotors we had tossed in the recycle pile, BMW number one owner was there in a tizzy because nobody told her we installed brakes.
The salesman gave the go ahead for the work, not by talking to both customers.
He talked to the same customer TWICE.
In other words, we installed brakes on a BMW that the owner never approved.
Yeah, that happened.

I love that shade of blue on the 535.
I own a couple of X5's, and I am constantly stunned how one of the best engineered engines cannot be built so they not leak oil over the medium and long term. I also have a 1997 Mitsubishi V6 that leaks from the rocker covers. At least these are easy to replace. BMW designers need to go to Korea or Japan to learn how this is done it seems. If you cannot get it right, at least make the thing maintainable, something else BMW fail at. Amazing.
Send them to Japan, not Korea. Toyota and Honda gained their reputations with build quality. Thirty five years later Hyundai and Kia are still figuring out build quality.
Or just drive a Honda and quit being stunned?

I’d drive it anywhere and it always puts a smile on my face. My newer Audi I’m less convinced on but too soon to tell. The Audi is an amazing road trip car though and the suspension works so well it’s almost worth whatever breaks… so far just a few minor things.
