I wish there was an hack like: Sonic 1: Taxman Edition; that adds all features from the remaster, except achievements and leaderboards (that aren't possible) and the widescreen, HD and locked 60 fps.
Only thing is, modern widescreen wouldn't be able to be implemented. Given that the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive was built for displaying video in a 4:3 aspect ratio (the standard for TVs at the time), at a specific resolution due to VRAM constraints. That doesn't mean that widescreen isn't impossible. However, it would mean letterboxing the game. While modern TVs have an option to stretch the image, the Genesis is still only producing a 256×244 (256×240 in PAL regions) video signal. That basically means you'll be dealing with screen crunch. And if Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis on the Game Boy Advance taught us anything... well, you know the rest.
Seeing all these rom hacks make me want to see a Sonic 1 ROM hack that replaces Sonic and Eggman to (here comes the crazy.........) Optimus Prime and Megatron (respectively) from Transformers Generation 1.

First of all I would like to say how great the level of detail is in this video and having guest appearances by other youtubers is amazing! The comedy, the detail and the pure entertainment is simply wonderful. I really love this series ''Does It Work On Real Hardware?'' All the choices are great in this video and you can easily make a sequel to this video by adding in ''Vector The Crocodile, Cream The Rabbit, Shadow The Hedgehog, Rouge The Bat'' and my personal favourite ''Mighty In Sonic 1''. Well done RHS. There is another Tails hack made by AsuharaMoon which works flawlessly on real hardware, the one you showcased was the inferior Puto hack. The Stealth 2005 Knuckles hack is the best Knuckles Sonic 1 hack all round because of it's easy physics, the AsuharaMoon Knuckles in Sonic 1 hack is prettier with his correct skin colour but the physics are not as good, there are certain areas in the game where Knuckles just can't jump up to proceed without mashing the hell out of the jump button to get him to glide over the area.
