  • This metal building would allow you to create an affordable home in Antelope Acres - Salt Flat, TX. You will have to insulate and create your interior walls to divide the interior structure to your liking.
You could create a home for around $10,000 dollars.

It may not be cheap, but the best home construction material I've seen on the internet is steel structural insulation panels. Very well insulated, as strong as heck, and will not burn.

come to Kenya with your expertise and you will make it big in real estate. Here such a house in the rural will be appreciated; though in the United States and other wealthy nations people see it as a sign of poverty.

metal can be good thing but a pain in the rear end to insulate, Condensation is the Killer, vaper barrier, adding metal or wood studs so that you actually have something to secure the interior wall material to, like T&G 1x6 wood or 1/2 inch sheetrock etc... Metal framing thickness and your basic 3& 1/2 inch fiberglass insulation or Styrofoam ? will you need to add a firing strip to make the build out? Running wires ? or will you have to surface mount electric and plumbing ? I find that when I write up an estimate for this kind of structure and finishing out vs the choice of metal stud framing or wood framing and finishing out the price always comes up very much higher, so it is usually wood 2x4 or 2x6 framing and them metal a slite bit more in expense. As far as the metal carport/garage structure for that type of use ( unheated or cooled ) they cant be beat, they are quick to assemble and are very long lasting, and a good investment for a Garage.

The area they are building in Antelope Acres - Salt Flat, TX is UNrestricted! IF they allow mobile homes, they will more than likely allow this. But personally, I would have bought one with vertical siding and boxed eaves. That would put the ridges up and down on the sides and the roof panels would look more like a normal steel roof. HOWEVER, since TX isn't has humid as FL, they probably don't have the same problem with algae and mold that we have here in FL. We have to pressure wash ours. It gets rather icky.

put insulation in your buildings - Cellulose, Mineral Wool or Fiberglass. each 25 mm of these products will reduce the amound of heat your building absorbs by a factor of 4 or 5 - ultimately a lot less AC needed than a brick building Recommended 2 layers of 15 mm with overlapping Joints where applicable. - also make sure your roof is white.

Plenty do. You can buy a pre-cut peel and stick rigid foam insulation kit for the interior and same for outside. Wall panels easily applied. Plumbing and wiring are a challenge but not insurmountable. Buy the high top and insulate the HELL out of the roof/ceiling area and you have a RIGID structure that'll outlast stick framing by decades, at a fraction of the cost. Tie it down well to the earth and nothing short of a wind blown Volvo will destroy it. Fire, rot, rodent and insect resistant it is a SMART move. Maybe not YOUR style, but value? Incomparable.

What's the wind rating on this structure? Would any county in Florida let you build a residential house like this without plywood or drywall? ... just metal skin over 2x4s framing , 2" Styrofoam insulation and MDF paneling on the inside?

Aesthetically...you'd probably have to get vertical panels and boxed eaves to pass the zoning idiots. PLUS some neighborhoods require a minimum square footage. I've seen some Barndominiums for sale in FL. They look nice. Worst issue is that some counties require that you deal with THEIR approved contractors! Find some property approved for Mobile Homes or with no restrictions and you should be able to do it.

Oh, and you want 2-1/4" tubular steel for 150mi. an hour winds.

If they got 12 Gauge 2-1/4" tubular steel it is 150 mile an hour wind proof! Which is Cat4.

Carports, which is what they are putting together can stand up to a category 4 (150 mile per hour winds) It depends upon which gauge you buy.
We are building a steel home like that only our siding and roof panels will be vertical with boxed eaves or a Gambrel roof..
