  • Indian Army battle tanks and women contingent of Assam rifles march at Republic Day Rehearsal in New Delhi, 2019.
Republic day in India is celebrated every year with great pride on 26th of January to honour the Constitution of India as it came into force on the same day in the year 1950. It had replaced the Government of India Act, 1935 into the governing document of India.
On this day, a national holiday is declared by the Indian Government. The new Indian Constitution was sketched and approved by the Indian Constituent Assembly and decided to celebrate it on 26th of January every year as India became a republic country.
“Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa“, the fifth and current President of South Africa will be the Chief Guest on 70th Republic Day of India 2019.
Cyril Ramaphosa was invited by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during the G20 summit which was held in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. He (from South Africa) was specially chosen for this occasion because India is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who had very close links with the people of South Africa. PM Modi said that the visit of the South African President to India will help in enhancing the ties between the two countries.

The troops, their uniforms and the pageantry are magnificent. That takes a lot of training and discipline...and pride.
That and knowing the Indian Army is in constant border skirmishes and firefights on their borders is impressive. It's not all parades.
That said, there were no tanks in this vid. The vehicles were a mobile rocket launcher and a lightly armored recovery vehicle. No tanks. Tanks have cannons. Big ones.

How strange. The closer the bands get to the videographer, the worse they sound. And a camel corps? Really? 2019 and India still has a camel corps. For ceremonial purposes only, I hope. A camel corps would be devastated by even one modern machine-gun team, let alone attack helicopters, say. I will say those ceremonial fan-like headdresses look mighty cool! Silly as can be, but still kinda cool! :)

Same was said in the battle of haifa 1917 when ottomans were armed with machine guns up against Indian cavalry. Still 61st cavalry won the battle and made the last successful cavalry charge in the human history. Those camels are well suited for deserts and if you haven't seen what soft sands in the deserts can do then you can ask pakistan, they sent a 2700 men strong mechanised infantry and with support of 40 tanks up against 120 indian soldiers in longewala in the same desert and they got stuck so miserably in the soft sand that only 2 indian infantry soldiers were KIA and over 200 pakistani troops along with 37 tanks were put down by India in a single battle. It is better to use camels in securing remote border areas where most of your vehicles will get stuck but the camels will keep patrolling with your men.

A marvelous exhibition of marching talent and choreography, not to mention uniforms that are certainly among the best in the world, but the bands... Oh my God! The Indian Army should import some American high school band teachers and learn how to play their instruments in tune!
Unless that is done, I would tell the bands to pantomime, playing nothing while a boombox plays prerecorded music -- much less embarrassing.

No American band other than one consisting entirely of elementary or middle school pupils would or could sound quite so bad. In America, police bands are entirely amateur, and they would never play that way in public.
